Are the Abus Granite 36/55 padlocks any good? I found one on ebay for $0.99.

this lock is :

-easy to shime if the chain allow enough space

-easy to bump.

-hard to pick but easier with a pick gun.

OK, now try the same trick again. This time with a REAL CHAIN or HASP locked up. The picking up a unused lock does nothing for me....

CHAIN can make the insertion of shim harder. you are right. you had to mod it a bit

a pick gun isnt picking either at least not in its true sense and security pins dont make it impossible to pick at all
