  • his father blood

  • @putoamodetodo no! HUMANS blood. ! Your blood & my blood!

  • What makes you think he didn't like his fathers music?

  • @fozziebear2009 wer is the bach ancestor now?

  • its a masterpiece of sturm und drung! really good piece on both sides harmony and melody. probably he doesnt like his fathers music.

  • I have some great cello concerti by CPE Bach which I will upload shortly. I think you will appreciate them if you are not already familiar with them. I will try to do it tomorrow (Sunday).

  • This concerto has always been a favourite of mine (I'm particularly fond of the first movement) Its certainly true to say that I use the first interpretations as a bench mark for 'judging' others!! I know where you're coming from there hehe. I'm certainly eager to get to know more of CPE Bach: sadly he appears to have been eclipsed by his father and other notables of the classical era!

  • Hey, I love this concerto! I prefer my version, but that's only because I almost invariably prefer the versions of pieces that I first get used to! On mine, they play this even faster (not that that's necessarily why I prefer it or what makes a rendition 'better'). I really think CPE Bach deserves more attention! His music is essentially classical but the Baroque influence is naturally there. Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven all held him in esteem so he obviously had something!

  • Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven could not have written the music they wrote if CPE Bach did not point the way. I read an article once that the sudden appearance of great musical genius is a new form(s) to exploit and conversely the lack thereof! Perhaps if CPE Bach had had the Sonata Allegro form to exploit, his genius would be recognized today as on a par with the three composers you mention.

  • Yeah exactly, and it's fascinating that such artistry can be genetically passed on, from his great father (and other times can appear out of almost nowhere, as with the aforementioned three!) CPE Bach wrote a lot, do you know anything particularly good by him? I only have a smattering of works by him but am very eager to get more over time :)

  • This particular flute concerto is among the very finest he ever wrote. Take it from one who knows his works intimately. For future reference, see also his Magnificat and his Symphonies. He has other spectacular works such as a marvelous concerto for duelling harpsichord AND fortepiano--almost unique in the repertoire. Almost everything he wrote was enfused throughout with his magnificent genius.
