Differences between adjacent forms in the ring are fairly small but by the time the circuit is complete the end members- herring & l.b.b gull are clearly different species. well, i happen to be an expert on seagull behaviour and i find this is commonly shown in seagulls-the behaviour of being unable to eat things. only last week i saw a seagull nearly swallow a frankfurter, then decide it was too big and regurgitate it. it then proceeded to decide it could eat it after all and didnt manage it. so i cant see why anyone would find this poor seagulls behaviour amusing in the slightest.

Lol, I think this is a cool video. I never seen a gull attempt to take in an ice cream cone like this. If it had been a Seattle seagull the cone would have been swallowed because the gulls here are larger. Gulls are very intelligent. Gulls know us two legged creatures can not take to the air and feel safe approaching near us to scavange food :-)
Many birds are only capable of swallowing food items whole. Gulls are one such family. Others include herons, cranes, auks (murres, puffins), pelicans, and some galliforms (turkeys, quail, pheasants). It is a little myopic to label this bird stupid simply because of its natural tendencies.
