I am a Floridian that lived there for 3 years temporarily. My husband grew up in Buffalo, and has many awesome friends and family members there. What great people I got to know! Unfortunately there isn't much economically there. Walk down main street and all you see are "for sale" signs in the store fronts. The upper east side is all ghetto. It makes it not worth the extreme weather. The city's kinda depressing. I really miss the people, though. Wish I could've taken them back with me.
Great video, brought back many fond memories...one question though, is that really the Peace Bridge? Otherwise...a delightful and worthwhile 6 minutes and 24 seconds! Thanks!
I am a life long Buffalo resident- in the City, not the 'burbs. Some times I wish I had lived between around 1880 and 1925 when Buffalo was a growing prosperous city.
It should be noted that the Wurlitzer Building and the Herschel Carousel facility are both in Niagara County, in the City of North Tonawanda.
Nice video.. but my pet peeve is misplaced apostrophes.... and this is full of them (condo's, Buffalo's, etc.) Some editing may be in order. :) Adding some of the suggestions like the Blizzard of '77 would make it complete. Nicely done!
Nothing in the last half century or so? Just another decaying enclave ruled by the democrats. They drove a stake into its heart shortly after WWII and it been down hill since. Industry, Rails, Freight- all gone. A foul and filthy place in so many areas. The reason Satan got hell and NY got Buffalo was that Satan won first pick.
Buffalo is a prime example of everything that is wrong with the U.S. today. When the government steals money from one group of people and gives it to another for 60+ years you end up with a decaying city where more than 50% of the people keep begging the corrupt politicians to steal more from the minority that is still working hard to make ends meet. The sad irony is that Buffalo was well ahead if its time in this regard, the whole country has been following this trend. Hope and Change my ass!
I lived there for 10 years and loved that city. It was beginning to decline then, but still a great city and people. So many great things were left from the city's "glory days" - it would take a half dozen of these slide shows to show them all and list all of the famous people. Thanks for posting this!
Buffalo, that great 18th century American city we all had to move away from in order to have a 21st century life, as it and the rest of NY taxes itself to death.
Buffalo is a mere skeleton of it's former self...anything good that's ever happened there happened decades ago...it's a rusting rotting city gasping for breath...hate to say it but the projects have expanded all the way across the city and nobody gives a shit about there property anymore...was a great city when it had Italian, Polish, Irish sections...there was pride then!!!!! it's all black & mexican now...sorry, truth hurts sometimes
Great video and a real trip down memory lane for me & the city where I grew up around. Buffalo has some of the most beautiful Art Deco buildings of any city in the world. I lived south of the city and nights when the steel mills were smelting the entire sky was orange. On clear days i could easily see Canada and the mist of the falls from my bedroom window. Last time I was there was 17 years ago for my 20th high school reunion. I'll get back again.
Don't know about the Hawaiian theme at the end but it's a fitting tribute to the land where I grew up. And thanks for lots of facts I didn't ever know, windshield wipers and air conditioners et al. Thank you from a former Buffalonian
Yes, before many decades of big government ineptitude and a union-driven culture of entitlement slowly destroyed the economy, Buffalo was a thriving, vibrant place to live. 50 years ago!
nice video... You can see the home Willis Carrier (father of the air conditioner) on Richmond Ave. about 5-10 homes south of Layfayette Ave. It's a brick home on the west side of the road.
i live here! XD

Man... I feel bad every time I go to Buffalo...just a has-been city. I usually leave the place depressed and fortunate that I don't live there.
