@emilydavis1410 im 14 years old and turning 15 this summer most of the people my age will have been cheering for years but ya i would have to learn a lot in a short amount of time
I hate a lot of things but i gotta say that was really cool but the blonde one needs to work on sticking the landing because she sucks at that,and try to get all the girls at the same height so that one person doesn't just stand out like a sore thumb. oh and when you want to do a flip do it right or don't do it at all and again the blonde one needs to step up her game because she will never make it in the world of gymnastics if she keeps it up. oh yea and not to be a hater or anything but u suck
@rball416 according to your profile you comment on every video saying it "sucked" yet you have no videos of you doing anything. And yes, the blondes weren't very good but this was her first day EVER doing them... shed never even had a spot she was only a level 4 gymnast
@CEAChampions No we didnt "copy" cheer extremes design... Our gym got the them the same year they did from the same company. And our gym picked them out not us haha
I also began jumping again (this time with shoes on) at the sandbox area, which is really a wood pellet area, and even threw in a couple of tuck jumps facing forward from an elevated platform about a foot off the ground and had next to no pain when I landed, though I think I'm still a long way from trying any airborne flips, as even though I bought a foamy mat, I still lack the vertical jump, even from an elevated platform to even try to do either a frontflip or a backflip, which is my goal.
I think I did my first-ever successful tumbling move today, as I think I succesfully completed a cartwheel for the very first time, even to the point of turning my hips and keeping my legs closer to my body. I think the key to completing it, which I will continue to try to do at theball field I go to, was turning my body almost 120-135 degrees from where I started by the time I put my hands down and kicked my legs to complete the cartwheel, which I did in less than two months, or 100 attempts.
I also wonder if I do a couple of flips in the future, how it would feel like when I land on the foamy mat, compared to how it would feel on the grass or the small pieces of wood in the sandbox area, assuming I can land properly after jumping. I'd like to see if I can do a flip, because I'd like to feel what the sensation is like to do a flip, especially a backflip, even if it's off a raised surface. What was the sensation like when you and the members of your group first did a flip of any kind?
I got a foam mat at K-Mart today, but there's only so much I can do with it in the small apartment where I live, though I did a forward roll. I still wonder whether or not I should walk to the ball field I visit to try my cartwheels and handstands, which I'll try to resume doing as soon as my right heel feels up to it.
I just noticed something. Whoever it is that did the cartwheel at the beginning of the video seemed to arch her back. Which among your group was that? And is that the secret to turning your hips in a cartwheel? By the way, it might have had something to do with the jumps I did without socks on Saturday, but at about 3 PM today, my right heel started hurting, and I noticed a bump of some kind on the back of my right heel, so my trip to the grassy ball field at about 4 PM had to be cancelled.
@cjs3872 Im the one that did the cartwheel tuck... and no don't arch your back, my back is just naturally always arched because Im built like that. If you're working on your cartwheel and need help turning make sure you drive your back foot!
Unfotunately, when I jumped without shoes on Saturday, I felt pain on the top of my feet and actually had to bail out of a cartwhel later on. Now, I've got a problem with a bump or knot on the back of my right heel, which is my first foot off the ground, and am having trouble even walking. Strange thing is that earlier today, I had no such problem when I went out. That problem came out of nowhere at about 3 PM and cancelled my scheduled trip to the field.
Of course, we wound up getting a dusting of snow, which would have cancelled my trip to the field where I do my handstands and cartwheels, anyway, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to restart trying cartwheels and jumping due to that knot on the back of my right heel. But thanks for saying you have to drive your back foot to turn in a cartwheel. And when you say drive your back foot (right for me), you say kick it hard and let my left foot come around, right?
And is kicking your back foot hard also how you can get completely upside down in a cartwheel, as well as turning your hips? And how do you land so that your back, or first landing foot, is close to your body, because even when I've got the hard kick and possible hip rotation as a result, I still can't keep my legs close to my body to complete a cartwheel standing up. Can you explain how to do that, as well? And land on my toes when I jump next time, correct?
That's one reason I can't try to flip myself in the air yet, but hardly the only reason. The others include simply not knowing how, especially since I have to be self-taught on the grassy ball field I go to, and the pain I felt on the top of my feet when I tried a few simple striaght ujmps yesterday with my shoes off, for fear of damaging my feet. It did sem, however, that I got higher in the air, or was in the air longer when I jumped without shoes on.
If you're asking me, it would be Maryland, where in Baltimore the temperature was 66 yesterday (1/7/12). The unusually warm temperatures for this time of year is one reason why I'm able to go to that ball field and practice my cartwheels and handstands more often than I thought I could this time of year.
And I can't do any airborne flips, because of my fear of flipping in the air, the fact that I don't know how, and now the fact that when I took my shoes off for a brief time yesterday at the ball field, I experienced pain when I landed even simple straight jumps yesterday, more than when I put the shoes back on. In fact, I had to abort a simple cartwheel attempt when I had my shoes off because I was afraid of the pain I was feeling on the top of my feet when I landed.
After all, any YMCA, or other place like that would cost about $100 to register, $50 a month after that, plus about $30-$60 in bus fare each month, as that's the only way I can travel, and I don't know of any open other gym anywhere near where I live where it wouldn't cost me a lot of money, as I'm short on cash, and I don't know if I find an open gym, if I'd even have the courage to ask for help. (As you can see, I've got a lot of fears and anxieties.)
And finally, I'm afraid of being seen and noticed by passers by, so when I see car going in either direction, I stop what I'm doing. Should I keep stopping what it is I'm doing when I see a car go by, or should I just care less. Also, I'd like to at least try a flip (most likely a backflip) prior to my 40th birthday, which comes at the end of August, but don't have a place to go other than the ball field that I can get to. What are you suggestions on these matters of mine?
@cjs3872 listen, dont be afraid of being seen or embarassed. If you like doing things like this, theres nobody who you should let stop youu! I've been a cheerleader practically all my life, and i still get nervous when i compete... but i dont let everyone watching me stop mee. Also, you can go to a store and buy gym mats or something to keep the floor padded while you attempt your flips.
Thanks, you're the second one to tell me not to wory about being seen or noticed. Yes, I've wanted to do things like this for some time, but finally got the urge to. As for going to a store to but gym mats, or things like it to keep the floor padded, there are problems. First, I'm kind of short on money to do that, but even if I could buy them, I have no room to put them where I live, which is a cramped second-floor apartment.
In fact, I barely have enough room where I live to do handstands, and there are places where I can't even do those due to low ceiling, which is why I go to the ball field near where I live to try my cartwheels. And I recently learned that rotating your hips in a cartwheel may have something to do with hand position, as I was told to place my hands in a position where the finger tips face each other. What's your opinion what directions your hands should be facing?
those mats really aren't expensive. In fact, you can even put the foam mats down anywhere really. Even on the field. Also, the hand positions really depend on your gender.
Depending on what kind of mats you're talking about. If you're referring to yoga mats, which I've sen at Wal-Mart, yes, they're rather afordable at about $20, but if you're talking about a gym mat, those are out of my league when it comes to price. As for putting them down on the field. I have to walk about six blocks to get to that field, so it wouldn't be a good idea to carry something that big around for any distance.
And also, during my recent trips to that field, I've been putting my valuables in a small bag, which I put in a pocket in my light jacket, so I could wear sweat-type pants that don't have pockets, except for a small zipped place where I put my keys. The same would be true when the weather warms up a little, if I intend to wear the stretchy, skin-tight pants I recently bought on such a trip with no regular pants covering them.
And by the way, when I try my handstands out on the field, when I overkick one, how should I bail out of it? Should I either roll out of it or cartwhel out of it? Going into a bridge/backbend is out of the question, since I can no longer bend backward like that. After all, I'm 39. About 25 years ago, I could go into a bridge, but not now. My problem then was that I couldn't get up out of the bridge, and had to flip backwards out of it into a normal position.
@cjs3872 A lot of people don't relize, but if you see a male tumbler, his hands are usually slightly faced inwards, like you described. But, females hands always have their fingers facing straight. Like for instance when your typing, your hands and fingers are aligned with your arms. During a cartwheel or handstand, the hands should be in that position.
I didn't realize that either, and since there is no gym in the area where I live that I can get to, I'll certainly never see for myself. Actually, when I do my handstands (against the wall in my apartment), my hands are going in the same direction. But if I overkick one when I'm outside, how should I bail out of it, since going into a bridge is out of the question? And by the way, I didn't know that cheerleaders could be nervous in front of crowds, even as I'd be.
@cjs3872 yes, i used to get very nervous most of the times. i'm used to it pretty much now. To bail out of a handstand... the easiest way is to step out if your against something... or kind of cartwheel out like a dismount of the side of a beam. follow what im saying? lol
Well, when I'm at home, there's really no danger of overkicking my handstands, since I do them against a wall, I let the wall keep me from overkicking them, and then step down. Now another question, does my hand position when I do a cartwheel help my hips turn, and how do you rotate your hips in a cartwheel, and how would I rotate my hips if hand position doesn't help me? Also, how do I keep my legs from getting too far away from me when completing the cartwheel?
And what kind of mat is being used at the beginning of this video? Is it a yoga or stretchng mat? But I still wouldn't walk six blocks to get to the ball field with a mat of any kind. And thanks for the advice on what to do if I overkick a handstand in the open.
Okay, thanks for the info. I can't afford a gym mat. I thought it might have been a yoga or stretching mat, which I can afford, but have no place to put it to use, and I'm definately not going to carry one six blocks in each direction. And, any tips on how to rotate my hips on a cartwheel, or is hand position the key. And how do I keep my legs close to my body on landing, as that may be the only thing preventing me from fully completing a cartwheel.
@cjs3872 If you live near a Walmart, go there. The have these mat type things that hook together like puzzle pieces. Theyre are made from foam-type material. They are 18.90 i believe. I saw them earlier and thought of you. Lol
Well, okay, I could buy one, but I still don't have a real good place to put one where I live, and I still don't think it's a good idea to carry a mat six blocks in either direction, which is what I would have to do to get to the ball field I practice cartwheels and handstands in. What's your opinion on that? Should I carry one that far, especially to do something for only about 10-20 minutes at a time, depending on what time I go out to try them?
@cjs3872 do you have a car to take in. I know its only six blocks but.. still.
also, just keep your abs tight when you land any type of tumbling. If you have problems with your knees or ankles, they may give out if you land hard.. but as soon as you tighten you muscles in your legs and stomach, it will help you be stabler when you land.
No, I don't have a car, not that it would matter, since I can't drive anyway. That's why that ball field is the only place I could go to even try handstands and cartwheels. Because I have to use a bus to travel, the number of places I can go is significantly limited, though I can get to all the major chains, K-Mart, Target, and Wal-Mart. That's why I asked if it was a good idea to walk six blocks in each direction with something as big as a mat.
Having to take a bus is also why I can't really get to an open gym or YMCA, not that I can afford it. And even if I found an open gym, I would be very hesitant to ask for assistance, as I'm very shy. And as a result, any cartwheels, handstands, or potential flips I do have to be self-taught, though YouTube is a great help. And no, I don't have problems with my joints, which seem to be very flexible, even at my age (39). At times, I can even dislocate my shoulders.
But even with that, I haven't quite completed a cartwheel, mainly because I don't yet know how to rotate my hips, though hand positioning does seem to play a part in that, nor can I keep my legs close to my body, which I understand helps you land one. But if hand positioning doesn't play a part in hip rotation during a cartwheel, then how do you rotate your hips? I'm also getting a little better at handstands, as I can hold one without a wall for 1-3 seconds.
Speaking of landing, I went to that ball field today, did some handstands and attempted some cartwheels, and then, because the weather was warm enough and the grass dry enough, I took my shoes off and tried some jumps, and I learned some things. First, with my shoes off, it felt like I stayed in the air on my jumps for a few split-seconds longer, but when I landed, I felt pain on the top of both of my feet. How can I combat the pain in my feet on landing?
well, i can tell you that when i tumble or jump on grass or comcrete.. it always hurts. i dont know how to stop it. very sorry. lol. Tomorrow, my friend and i will make a video for you and show you everything you need to know!
Okay, then. That was just an experiment. And I wasn't even tumbling, which I can't do in the air, mainly because I neither know how, and am afraid to do so, even on grass. But maybe, I might someday learn how to rotate my hips in a cartwheel, or be able to land one properly, or be able to control a handstand. But my fear and inability of doing any airborne flips of any kind, will keep me from trying for some time. And, I have no real place to learn them, either.
And, as I mentioned, everything I do in terms of handstands, cartwheels, any flips I might try in the future, dive rolls, which I learned that I've done, and flexibility has to be self-taught, since I have no real place to go other than that field. At least it's been warmer than usual where I live, so I have more chances to practice than I ordinarily might have this time of year, when the ground is cold and covered by snow and ice.
If you're going to upload such a video, don't do it just for me, but for the public, as well, as the public might also like to know how to do these things, as well. And besides, doing an upload just for me, whether it's about gymnastics, or anything else, would embarrass me to some extent. After all, I'd just like to be able to complete a few simple move, and at least try a backflip by my next birthday, but have no real place to train, or anyone to train me.
And also, does hand position matter in terms of rotating your hips in a cartwheel, and how do you rotate them if hand positioning doesn't matter, and also, how do you kep your legs striaght when you land, something I can never seen to do, as well as keeping them close to your body. I know when I do mine, I wind up finishing them with bent legs, very low, and often fall down, so any tips on that?
A couple of questions. I'm 39 and go to a ball field near where I live and at least try handstands and cartwheels. But when you do a cartwheel, how do you turn your hips to complete the cartwheel? And I'm a little afraid to kick too hard when I try a handstand because I don't know how to bail out of one. How should I conquer that fear and bail out of a handstand if I kick too hard?
you guys are amazing! good tucks! Just make sure you set them! when we dont set we have to stand with our arms up for like 15 minutes! it sucks! goood job though (:
@westielover12 Thats funny cause we all used to be gymnasts! haha Michaela did gymnastics from age 1 year until 15 years old, Madison did it age 1 year until 16 and Lindsey and Paige both did gymnastics til they were 10. All four of us were competitive gymnasts and have only cheered for less than 2 years. but thanks i guess(: haha
OMG!! Youu guys are Good!! Yall are very lucky yall can Tumble like that! All I can do is Backhandsprings and a Backtuck! I Wish I Could Do More Than That!!
you guys need to have better sets on your backtucks. you need to set with your shoulders up. right now they are going up but leaning to the back. that's why the tucks are moving backwards.
"no need to hate"? if you guys got shit for this those people are crazy. i wish i could just bust out a layout on the grass

And is kicking your back foot hard also how you can get completely upside down in a cartwheel, as well as turning your hips? If you're asking me, it would be Maryland, where in Baltimore the temperature was 66 yesterday (1/7/12). The unusually warm temperatures for this time of year is one reason why I'm able to go to that ball field and practice my cartwheels and handstands more often than I thought I could this time of year.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@YoItsDylann

(As you can see, I've got a lot of fears and anxieties.)
cjs3872 1 month ago
And finally, I'm afraid of being seen and noticed by passers by, so when I see car going in either direction, I stop what I'm doing. Should I keep stopping what it is I'm doing when I see a car go by, or should I just care less. Also, I'd like to at least try a flip (most likely a backflip) prior to my 40th birthday, which comes at the end of August, but don't have a place to go other than the ball field that I can get to. What are you suggestions on these matters of mine?
cjs3872 1 month ago
@cjs3872 listen, dont be afraid of being seen or embarassed. If you like doing things like this, theres nobody who you should let stop youu! I've been a cheerleader practically all my life, and i still get nervous when i compete... but i dont let everyone watching me stop mee. Also, you can go to a store and buy gym mats or something to keep the floor padded while you attempt your flips.
LexiMarie2017 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
Thanks, you're the second one to tell me not to wory about being seen or noticed. Yes, I've wanted to do things like this for some time, but finally got the urge to. As for going to a store to but gym mats, or things like it to keep the floor padded, there are problems. First, I'm kind of short on money to do that, but even if I could buy them, I have no room to put them where I live, which is a cramped second-floor apartment.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
What's your opinion what directions your hands should be facing?
cjs3872 1 month ago
@cjs3872
those mats really aren't expensive. In fact, you can even put the foam mats down anywhere really. Even on the field. Also, the hand positions really depend on your gender.
LexiMarie2017 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
Depending on what kind of mats you're talking about. If you're referring to yoga mats, which I've sen at Wal-Mart, yes, they're rather afordable at about $20, but if you're talking about a gym mat, those are out of my league when it comes to price. As for putting them down on the field. I have to walk about six blocks to get to that field, so it wouldn't be a good idea to carry something that big around for any distance.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017

@LexiMarie2017
My problem then was that I couldn't get up out of the bridge, and had to flip backwards out of it into a normal position.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@cjs3872 A lot of people don't relize, but if you see a male tumbler, his hands are usually slightly faced inwards, like you described. But, females hands always have their fingers facing straight. Like for instance when your typing, your hands and fingers are aligned with your arms. During a cartwheel or handstand, the hands should be in that position.
LexiMarie2017 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
And by the way, I didn't know that cheerleaders could be nervous in front of crowds, even as I'd be.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@cjs3872 yes, i used to get very nervous most of the times. i'm used to it pretty much now. To bail out of a handstand... the easiest way is to step out if your against something... or kind of cartwheel out like a dismount of the side of a beam. follow what im saying? lol
LexiMarie2017 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
Also, how do I keep my legs from getting too far away from me when completing the cartwheel?
cjs3872 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
And what kind of mat is being used at the beginning of this video? Is it a yoga or stretchng mat? But I still wouldn't walk six blocks to get to the ball field with a mat of any kind. And thanks for the advice on what to do if I overkick a handstand in the open.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@cjs3872 it was a gymnastics mat i got for my 6th birthday haha
fliplovecheer 1 month ago
@fliplovecheer
And how do I keep my legs close to my body on landing, as that may be the only thing preventing me from fully completing a cartwheel.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@cjs3872 If you live near a Walmart, go there. The have these mat type things that hook together like puzzle pieces. Theyre are made from foam-type material. They are 18.90 i believe. I saw them earlier and thought of you. Lol
LexiMarie2017 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
Well, okay, I could buy one, but I still don't have a real good place to put one where I live, and I still don't think it's a good idea to carry a mat six blocks in either direction, which is what I would have to do to get to the ball field I practice cartwheels and handstands in. What's your opinion on that? Should I carry one that far, especially to do something for only about 10-20 minutes at a time, depending on what time I go out to try them?
cjs3872 1 month ago
@cjs3872 do you have a car to take in. I know its only six blocks but.. still.
also, just keep your abs tight when you land any type of tumbling. If you have problems with your knees or ankles, they may give out if you land hard.. but as soon as you tighten you muscles in your legs and stomach, it will help you be stabler when you land.
LexiMarie2017 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
That's why I asked if it was a good idea to walk six blocks in each direction with something as big as a mat.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
At times, I can even dislocate my shoulders.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
I'm also getting a little better at handstands, as I can hold one without a wall for 1-3 seconds.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
How can I combat the pain in my feet on landing?
cjs3872 1 month ago
@cjs3872 1/7/12
well, i can tell you that when i tumble or jump on grass or comcrete.. it always hurts. i dont know how to stop it. very sorry. lol. Tomorrow, my friend and i will make a video for you and show you everything you need to know!
LexiMarie2017 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
And, I have no real place to learn them, either.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
And, as I mentioned, everything I do in terms of handstands, cartwheels, any flips I might try in the future, dive rolls, which I learned that I've done, and flexibility has to be self-taught, since I have no real place to go other than that field. At least it's been warmer than usual where I live, so I have more chances to practice than I ordinarily might have this time of year, when the ground is cold and covered by snow and ice.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
If you're going to upload such a video, don't do it just for me, but for the public, as well, as the public might also like to know how to do these things, as well. And besides, doing an upload just for me, whether it's about gymnastics, or anything else, would embarrass me to some extent. After all, I'd just like to be able to complete a few simple move, and at least try a backflip by my next birthday, but have no real place to train, or anyone to train me.
cjs3872 1 month ago
@LexiMarie2017
And also, does hand position matter in terms of rotating your hips in a cartwheel, and how do you rotate them if hand positioning doesn't matter, and also, how do you kep your legs striaght when you land, something I can never seen to do, as well as keeping them close to your body. I know when I do mine, I wind up finishing them with bent legs, very low, and often fall down, so any tips on that?
cjs3872 1 month ago
A couple of questions. I'm 39 and go to a ball field near where I live and at least try handstands and cartwheels. But when you do a cartwheel, how do you turn your hips to complete the cartwheel? And I'm a little afraid to kick too hard when I try a handstand because I don't know how to bail out of one. How should I conquer that fear and bail out of a handstand if I kick too hard?
