That is a HORRIBLE noise... Some of my family members have heard that noise at night when taking out our little dog. We know for sure they are foxes because they often run down the street. One attacked a cat.
Foxes are not physically capable of attacking an adult cat. They actually weigh less than most cats (they usually weigh about 10lb) and don't have the match of a cat's claws. By far the biggest danger to cats is cars, followed by other cats, dogs, and sometimes idiots with airguns. Letting cats roam loose outdoors is highly dangerous but foxes don't figure on the potential harm list.
First of all, it wasn't our cat, we make sure ours are indoors. Second of all, foxes are capable of attacking a cat. Our neighbors saw it to and it isn't the first time it is happened. In a different incident our neighbors saw a fox chasing a cat. So don't tell us what we see and what we didn't see. Half the times the fox walk in pairs.
Trust me, these are red foxes! One of these foxes had a furless tail at the timebecause he was recovering from an illness. There are no coyotes in Europe, anyway, and coyotes tend to be greyer and taller. (I've seen lots of them in Canada.)
Yes, they visit the garden and sometimes "talk" while in it! The male fox did have mange but he'd been treated and had recovered by the time of this clip. His fur on his tail took ages to grow back though.
Thanks so much for this! I have a railway track round the back of my house with small trees. I've saw foxes there a couple of times. I've heard screaming noises from there and it has really freaked me out. I simply couldn't figure out what it was. I eventually came to the conclusion that it was a strange bird, but it was doubtful. That's the noise! Thanks!
I think I got it. I couldn't describe this before, but now I got it. This is like the sound of a big dog barking soprano! As for how a big dog could be barking soprano I don't know, but it might have to do with being rebranded an it...
...in any case, I didn't know wild foxes actually barked. I thought they were just shriekers.
lol when i first heard these i was really scared but when i saw them in my garden like that close it wasnt as scary but the nosises still ensue fear in me and i skip a beat and i dont know why
I enjoy the bark of a fox. It's like the cry of a loon (great northern diver) in northern Canada or the bellowing of male elk in the autumn - a little piece of the wilderness :-)
Sooooo funny! I was looking up fox calls cause we keep hearing this weird noise at night and I didn't know what a fox sounded like and my brother said that's what was making the noise well as I am watching this my dog gets up out of her sleep comes over to the computer and is watching it all bug-eyed turning her head side to side like what the heck is that!
Wow. We don't have foxes around here so I've never heard them. That would scare the hell out of me to wake up to that! It's worse than racoons fighting! Even so, foxes are very pretty and interesting little animals.
its bone chilling but beautiful at the same time

They're my favorite too. Now I know what all those noises that kept me awake when we lived in the country were. I'm surprised I still remember that.

Their screams get a lot of people wondering. I remember hearing them when I was a child and not knowing what they were either! Thanks very much!

Certainly, they don't always sound like what we would imagine a fox to sound like!

when the tone of the shrieking gets more intense,is that 2 foxes fucking each other?i wonder if anyone has gotten vid of that ??
Grandmabee34 4 years ago
It's two foxes (often two vixens) basically shouting at each other because they both want something, typically food. It's kind of a vulpine argument.

man i love foxes

Is it the femalew that barkes ?
vicgarrett 4 years ago
Yes, that was the one I call the Fringe Vixen.
Sittingfox 4 years ago
so does the male bark as well
vicgarrett 4 years ago
Yes, they both make a wide variety of cries. But this vixen was particularly noisy that summer.

Rofl @ Foxes... So cute, and that sound is a bit annoying.
BTW: Are those foxes mating @ 0:56 ?
BartucBG 4 years ago
No, it was just one fox rolling in the conifer.
Sittingfox 4 years ago
HAHA that was funny! xD Yeah it's cute when they say "vov" like a dog. :p Yes the tail is wierd..?
FoxTot 4 years ago
Just a bit thin ;) He lost his fur there, and it took a while to grow back.
A big part of the annoyance here was the presence of an intruding male fox, who caused some anxiety amongst the regulars.
Sittingfox 4 years ago
Ooh.. Well, thank you for telling me! :D
(aren't you tired of explaining that about the tail all the time;)
FoxTot 4 years ago
Well, I don't wonder that people are surprised by it!
Sittingfox 4 years ago
They do sound a bit like dogs! That's cool. But it looks like someone shaved their tails..
Serasia 5 years ago
The Old Dogfox had mange - we treated him, and he's fine now, but his brush took an awful long time to grow back!
Sittingfox 5 years ago
Poor dog-fox. Glad he's better. He sounds...well, he sounds annoyed or something but I bet he's happier now that he's better. Lol.
Serasia 5 years ago
aww thats cute
