  • super job

  • only in video it looks so easy, but in reality is somthing else:D

  • what tools where used ? in this video

  • @BarbiieeHateesPiink For this installation a "cold-knife" (windshield cutout tool) would have been used to cut the windshield out. A utility knife or similar tool (here, the technician used a "long-knife", sometimes also referred to as a "pipe-knife") would be used to remove the adhesive from the body. To apply the adhesive he used a Milwaukee Electric adhesive gun. Other than those tools, only basic tools like a philips screwdirver would be needed for this particular installation.

  • By the looks of the can of primer I would guess Essex primer U401 prep and U402 glass primer. I forgot the pinch weld primers name or I should say #. Having said that wear some chemical gloves. That stuff and Sika activator prep is really nasty for your skin.

  • This video, produced by PPG Industries, is going on ten years old and I am unsure as to what adhesive system is being used. Due to the popularity of this video, we will be producing our own video in the future. We use the Sika adhesive system. Thanks for watching!

  • what is the type of primer that is used?

  • Don't know if AutoGlass in the UK is the same company as CityAutoGlass in the States - but we had to have our windscreen changed today.

AutoGlass in Bradford (UK) did it - a superb, clean job in which the installation followed exactly the procedure illustrated here. The job itself took 1 hour, with 1 hour added for curing before we could drive it home.

    Great job.

  • Honestly I do not know. I never really looked close enough at it. I do know this, at the time this video was made, I think that the other popular adhesive system (Essex) required a two part process for priming the glass. If they show this step then that may tell you. This is a video that was created by PPG to aid in Continuing Education training for insurance agents. We did not produce it. I do plan to produce our own hopefully sometime during February. Thanks for watching.

  • CityAutoGlass thank you for this video!!! So far the best I've seen. Ware could a lay person get the urethane applier? Thanks again for the video, it's very helpful.!!!!!!!1

  • I am glad that you like the video! A lay person should not perform an auto glass installation that requires an adhesive system to bond it to the vehicle, but if one does please follow your chosen adhesive system manufacturer's instructions EXACTLY. Cordless caulking guns (Milwaukee brand, most popular) may be purchased wherever contractor grade tools are sold.

  • i dont know about you but the last message makes a whole lot of sense. dont drive it until the it is really setting in.

  • This video is how vehicle glass was installed in the '90...

Some professional company's use better cut out tools then cold knife and long knife. Not only better for their health& safty but also more friendly for the aperture of the vehicle. Also a better practice is to glue the glass instead of the car aperture... Advantages are that polyurethane can be linked at the bottom only (less risk of leakage) , less glue links, more ergonomic, etc.

  • Yes, of course the video is a bit dated. It is merely posted for the purpose of showing the lay-person what is basically involved in the process. As far as where to place the bead...good arguments can be made for both practices. Let's please not debate that here though. Thank you visiting our YouTube page!

  • i think its a little unneccesary to check for leaks after you set it if you ran a tall bead and made sure your seams are married you will be fine

  • I agree. However, it really is just an informational video (produced by PPG Industries) aimed at non-industry people. There are a couple things that most technicians do a little differently. Thanks for viewing it and weighing in.

  • 5 stars for the installer's totally awesome hair-do.

  • Yes, a "Military Cut". Sharp, respectable, clean. I like it too.
