Well I grew up with the Harmony Gold Arc of Robotech and I loved it. For what it is Sentinels is not too bad. But purist with throw the hate or just hate for its sake only. For the haters its been over 20 years let go already.

@edde8282 Ok I literally just finished Robotech: The Macross Saga, the only thing that ISN'T the same is the drawing style. As you said, if it ain't broke don't fix it. The new tech and uniforms are ok, but thank god the kept for the most part the original actors.

there was a problem with this movie originally the sentinels were planed to be released as a 65 eps series but they had a big problem with money they were getting help from a toys company I dont remember the name and for some reason they stop to supporting HG for this project and then they had to cancel and the sentinels were resumed on this movie and a punch of games and comic books

Harmony Gold made the Sentinels to fill in the gaps of its flawed attempt at weaving three different anime shows into one storyline. It's hopeless. But, at least Robotech was great.

The novels are crap, too. The idiot author mistakenly put the Valkyrie (Veritech) pilots in the head!

if you are talking about the novels from JackMcKinney those were not the real Sentinels because thy wasn't from the creator of the robotech series that mean Carl Macek they changed a lot of thing about the characters personality on the novels the real Sentinels has supposed to be this one but they canceled the show the sentinels is just part of the robotech universe and do not explain everything only a small part of it thats because robotech is a vast and rich story with many characters

I am sick and tired of people complaining that Macross was better than ROBOTECH. Maybe it is or maybe its not. If u don't like Robotech then simply don't watch it. The point of the Matter is that ROBOTECH is in ENGLISH, and some of us can't bother to read the subtitles of Macross. P.S- i think the makers of robotech did a good job in combining all of these different sagas to make one good show ROBOTECH

I personally prefer to watch anime subbed (yes, I'm a bit of a purist), yet I still consider Robotech to be fascinating

The fact how they glued three unrelated series together, and it actually worked as a continuity of it's own

Still, if you want to watch the other Macross animes, you should watch the unedited Macross

Despite being esentially the same thing however, Robotech and Macross both provide a completely different experience

@DrMlieko Robotech is a generic name that refers to a collection of japanese animations involving giant mecha designs. The concept of Robotech existed before the "creation" of the Robotech series, we could also say that Robotech is a synonym of Mecha. Macross on the other hand usually refers to the original animation SDF Macross. By the way, Robotech "The Macross Saga" is about 90% equal to the story of SDF Macross.

The story of Robotech does not exist. Robotech is just an attempt to create one story out of many others. An attempt that was not succesful of course. For that reason it makes no sense to compare Robotech (as a whole) with Macross.

It's a big shame that the Sentinels part of Robotech got canned because of financial issues. The only redeeming aspect is that the books pick up where they leave off, and finish telling the story.

The book series based on the television series got to me first. I was checking this out to see if the animation actually touched on the anthro characters -(vulpine, ursine)- but I guess there isn't enough up to be sure. Jack McKinney sure put a great spin on the tv series in his writings and I find the animation and dialogue of the original material he worked from disappointing. Aniamtion style from the 70s-80s just isn't up to my 90s-2ks imagination...

Homowreck is a bastardization of three completely different anime series. Macross, Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada.

Southern Cross didn't fit at all, and Genesis Climber Mospeada was the only only one that even remotely fit but that was only because the Legioss had the same three modes that the VF-1's in Macross had.

I admit though, that if it wasn't for Robotech, I never would have gotten into Macross.

Thanks, but back in the 80's Robotech :The Macross Saga was the ONLY thing being shown in the U.S. at the time...long before the internet and the ability to upload Super Dimensional Fortress Macross episodes for the rest of us to get educated on the REAL Macross story. :P

Sorry guys, but ever since I've realized where the Robotech Saga came from and watched the original animations that they came from, I much prefer SDF Macross and it's sequels. (Except for Macross 7...ugh!!)

If you want Hovertanks Do a Google for Southern Cross, the series that provided the footage that Harmony Gold used for that segment. It wasnt until they started trying to market Sentinels that they had any original material produced

However, if you're enough of a Robotech fan, go check out the books.  There's 22 (or 23? I forget) books in the series, going from the Macross saga all the way through the end of the Sentinels saga...which is EXTRAORDINARY.

The five Sentinels books are the best of the series...perhaps only next to the six Macross saga books.

something's really off with this series of Sentinels....first off, I think it is made and drawn by Harmony Gold, not by the original creators of Macross because something, story-wise is really not on par with macross, second, they try to cram in a storyline that somehow links the 3 series: Macross, southern cross, and Mospeada.... which is dumb because they are not related at all, they are independent series that had nothing to do with each other that harmony gold crammed as one in Robotech....

1) they introduced Dana, the heroine of southern cross, as a child in the wedding dress shop, which is supposed to be the child of Max sterling (Max Janus in the original macross)...the thing is, Max daugther has green hair, not blonde, they just did this so you get to think that the stories are related, Dana, of southern cross, is not the daughter of Max, and no, she doesn't know who the zentradi are because she was never part of the same story.

2) the kid she's playing with, that's a character from southern cross also, but they drew it into the mix as son of Claudia...of course that never happened.

3)there are no robotech masters in Macross, there never will be, there was just protoculture, which is an experiment to establish different civilizations in order to see which one could function, there are no reason to go look for robotech masters.
