Don Bluth and and Company really went all out and produced what is very likely the saddest and most nostalgic animated movie I have ever seen.

I really think this movie is even sadder than Bambi, and the whole atmosphere is somber with that music by James Horner (Titanic, Beautiful Mind etc.) This is the rare sort of film which can bring 22 year old men like me to tears, and that takes a lot to do.

Bambi's atmosphere isn't as consistent as Land Before Time's - the mood of the various events tends to be a dramatic contrast from the previous scene.

Land Before Time maintains a general sense of relative darkness throughout the entire film.

Anyways - back when I was around 11-12, when I still had the old films, (I'm only 15, so this wasn't long ago :P ) I would sometimes 're-visit' old films - Land Before Time left me in tears when Littlefoot's mother died in front of Littlefoot.
