The constant transition effect felt cheesy at first (2011) but in the end really worked for me and stands the test of time. Doesn't hurt Siouxsie was a pivotal influence in my juvenile years. I am largely who I am because of artists like her, Alison M, Chrissie H., etc. Finally got to see her once in '91 at the KROQ Weiner Festival (?), I think Budgie played a few Creature songs but that may have been another gig. It's really a shame my brain's so fried but I'll never forget the heart of it.
this version is much less musically interesting. Chordally speaking, the band uses the usual pop chords instead of the far more interesting chords of the original version. sort of like Wheels on Fire for Dummies. The band probably doesn't know that one chord near the beginning and found the "this wheel shall explode" too unnatural for the beginners they are. Oh well, still is a nice version.
But the song is quite adventurous, and if you're going to do it, at least do the good parts.
I love her versions of Dear Prudence and The Passenger, but this still leaves me cold. I didn't listen to the original for many years, only to discover that it is a beautifully haunting song. So strange, because Siouxsie is the queen of beautifully haunting...
Don't you love how the 80's singers like Siouxie or Kate Bush are still WAY sexier and more sensual all covered up, than Lady Gaga strapping 2 pieces of duct tape on her tatters :D <3
@brikered Gaga will be long forgotten while people will still be listening to Siouxie. Gaga's just a throw away piece of media event trash. The only way she'll be able to be on anyone's mind will if she goes the way of another limited talent like Madonna, making a big deal about herself, going off to buy children in some 3rd world country or some other splashy thing that doesn't involve actually producing music.
Damn I love this version so vibrant and edgy, what more could you ask for? Off course this is not gonna sound like the Bob Dylan one, it's Bob Dylan... duh! Lol...
@infinitefathom then what are you doing here if you don't like her? Siouxsie pioneered the whole goth/alt. rock movement and has sang and covered some of the best songs in music. Don't hate her because she decided to cover a classic, at least it's not that horrid TV show which name I will not say covering this.
This track reminds me of great times, going around with my old mates during the 1980s, we would go to a club which would play our sort of music (Siouxie the Cult etc) then we would finish off the night by going to the ruins of Great Witley court in Worcestershire (or simular) during the early hours...then unfortunately most of us 'grew up' and got married etc.....great memories...Siouxie is superb, I don't see any bands with her quality these days in my opinion!
I know this is a cover, and just about everyone and their brother-in-law in the music world has done a version of it, but Siouxsie's is The Best and she and her Banshees just about take ownership of this tune, IMO
Siouxsie & The Banshees were absofuckinglutely one of the most brilliant bands. Their music had such depth & artistry and craft to it that it truly stands the test of time. Love it. I feel bad for these 20-nothings who are fed a daily drivel of rap and r&b crap, sung by skanky talentless ho's who need their voices modified just to get thru a song.
@PatrickDC202 As a 20-something, I can assure you that I don't listen to R&B and crap like that. I've been into Siouxsie, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, and all that good stuff since I was 13 :-)
Although this is the official video - it is monaural, NOT stereo .... To share it, I will have to use one of the other YT versions .... kinda sucks ...
probably the best metamorphosis a music could get into... its virtually another music...and in my opinion one of the best things Siouxsie recorded.. The chords and sound atmosphere are a bit transcendental somehow...
I don't understand why everyone is sooo upset about this cover. I mean damm it's S&B, did you really think they were going to sing EXACTLY like the og. It u want to hear the og version then wacth Ab Fab.
So who is upset with this cover? It must be new fans that know shit all about music, because it certainly wouldn't be an original Siouxsie fan. I can spot a new fan miles away, especially when they talk about a classic album on here and say something along the lines of "This was a completely underrated album." It makes me want to smack people when they say stupid things like that. Hear that people? If you weren't born when an album came out then STFU! You don't know what you're talking about.

@norallecon Sorry, but "much better" doesn't really get me there. The original work of art was a masterpiece, which we loved - Soooo long ago that it hurts ! As you ae maybe trying to say, S+theBeeshhe'z version is a load of old cobblers !!
I thought you meant Bob Dylans cover of his own song was the original. I got confused and sounded stupid. LOL! Never mind. Agreed. Original = great. This = trash.

Agreed. This is dreadful. There were some great songs in 80s-- almost all of them before Reaganism turned the whole country sour-- but in general things sucked.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Not a nad cover (pastiche?) but leaving out that out of key final chord change on "this wheel shall explode" was a BAD decision. It's the hook to the song and the emotional climax.
Still, if you were born into the punk/romantic era you will relate to it.
Julie Driscoll did it better though for us older ones ;-)
i wasn't born in the period (musically), but i still weirdly relate to this version better than to the original one. this one seems to flow more, to be more melodic, while the original seems very spoken word-ish and, thus, to me, not as soothing.
The seminal/founding/cutting edge bands are frequently hard to identify with what the movements eventually stagnate into. Witness "The Clash aren't really punk" and similar statements.
The years have gone by 80's long gone but this song takes me back to beautiful times...
