First time I saw this, i thought it was a robot transformed from a firetruck. Heck, it turns it's nothing like firetruck, plus this show would not involve such kiddy tricks at all. BTW, it also turns out there is an old anime movie about firetruck transforming robot that fights alien invaders, which is serious in its own way.
@anode ShinGetterRobo might be able to kill Ideon if it turns into the GetterEmporer. The problem with that is that if Ryoma kills Ideon, then he'd screw over the universe. So it'd be a tie. Mazinkaiser would horribly lose, sadly.
Tomino is greatest film director and also story-teller in japan, i think. But almost people think he is just a director only for "anime" for kids loving Super Robot.

I mean, the Ideon gun can destroy solar systems like its nothing, and the Ideon blade can chop galaxies in half... Ideon is just a freaking beast.

And yes, everybody literally dies at the end of the Ideon anime, in cruel and very sad ways.
And about Gao Gai Gar, yeah, he is very powerful, but he's way below Ideon, he's about at the same level of power the other two god robots (Mazinkaiser and Shin Getter) are.

Leaders from a military race of aliens start trying to get their hands on Ideon, which escalates into a war that eventually destroys both Earth and the alien's world. In the end, the Ideon blows up, and the souls of the Ideon pilots and the aliens ascend to a new universe. Or something like that, Ideon's ending is pretty much open to personal interpretation.
This really depends on how much courage Guy has. The G-Stone transfers said courage into power. If we're going by show statistics, I'd say depending on the situation. Guy could easily adapt.
Shin Getter, on the other hand, is self evolving. The manga explains it better as the Getter is literally organic. When and if it reaches Getter Empreror stage, it might be able to scratch Ideon. Mazinkaiser on the other hand, would probably despite the Fortress of Steel.
@andoc Gai Shishio could probably be the only one who could stop the Ideon. Because he is a hero with courage. That turns a 0% chance of victory into 100%. Hmm.. perhaps the G Stone would be the ultimate counter for the Ide Gauge?
Otherwise really only TTGurren Lagann, Unicron, or Gunbuster could stand up to the Ideon going full bore.

His three machines that make him up alone can make enough energy to match a big bang. And in his first size (he absorbs planets and grows in size with each one) is as big as mars and he was able to crush an entire sub space dimension in his own hand. He eventually became so big that his torso was a galaxy in a side manga.
@andoc Also in the side manga we see him fight a "god" like opponent who's bigger than him and wins with one punch to the head. Hell, when Ryoma called to create the Emperor the words alone made the universe quake (like a universal earthquake). So long as he has planets he will continue to grow in size and power. He is also able to send people through time, as well as himself probably. If he becomes so big he could nom nom nom on galaxies think of what he will do if he goes into a new universe?
I think Ideon is 105 meters tall. (A standard sized mobile would be an action figure in comparison). Much taller than Psycho Gundam (41 meters). Only source I found (a post on a forum, not an official source) said Gaogaigar is about 31.5 meters.
@KeeveSuikoden2Hero I saw a size comparison chart on a giant robot fansite. On it, Ideon is 100 meters tall (slightly more if you include the antennae). Still, it's not official, so take it with a grain of salt.

@KeeveSuikoden2Hero Ideon. The only things really able to beat the Ideon are Elder God Demonbane from sheer size (pops the universe it's in from sheer size and destroys others by brushing by) and the RahXephon during Retuning (by rewriting reality to remove the Ideon from existence).

Not even something like Sepheric EVA 01- which has the power of a God- can much do damage to the Ideon, so Decade's screwed.

Upbeat? The melody might be, but not the lyrics. If anything, this song sounds like a church hymn, with a mythic quality to it. It suits the nightmarish godly power of Ideon.

This anime was never popular in Japan; even though without it we never would have had Z Gundam and Eva. Though movie one A Contact counts as a remake, which is why they don't remake Ideon.
its funny you say that, if you ever played super robot taisen F final, the pilot stats as they level up can go to 255 max...however, if the ideon becomes invoked, the character portrait of cosmo yuuki is replaced with a white light and his name is replaced with "IDE" and all his stats become 999. The ideon then becomes uncontrollable and shoots the ideon gun at friends and foe alike. Basically a game over because your own mother ship will die in a single hit.

I like the openings to Gundam, Dunbine and L-gaim better just cause they had more energy in them. But Ideon's opening is alright, if not a little more relaxed.
I am watching this great serie in these days and i'm near the end (i have watched 31 of 39 episodes). I have found it incredibly deep and interesting, it has many layers of interpretation (psychological, metaphysical, symbolic) and isn't cheesy at all, and doesn't sell out to captivate the audience. I have found in particular incredibly strugging how the theme of the failure of communication , on many layers: between crewmates, betweens Buff Clan and Earth and between earthlings themselves.Great
Everytime I here people argue about witch show is better, Evangelion or Ideon, they just say, "lol Ideon can eat teh evas", and Im the only one going, ok so which show is better? stupid fanboys, still I love Ide0n, but dont be fooled by its cheerfull Op, its fvcking messed up in the end, also the creator put himself in the last movie...and died...yeah
But I'm going to be honest, I don't see why people argue over which robot show is better, or which robot could win in a fight.
Ideon can destroy the Universe, TTGL is a universe. To be honest, some shows have robots so powerful it's just insane. (Hence Ideon and TTGL) That doesn't mean that shows such as GaoGaiGar, and Getter Robo can't be epic. You simply have to stop comparing their strengths, when no one really cares who can beat who.
What really matters is how much "YOU" enjoyed the show, not which robot is stronger.
Also stop complaining about things "Stolen" from other mecha anime. The basis of all Mech anime are built from the same thing. It's an anime about giant robots. Not to mention that there are so many of them, that almost everything possible has been done. Rather, it's how the show does it that makes it matter, not who used the concept first.
I only saw the first ep of evangelion. The main character was too much of a whiny crybaby for me. Animation was great though and the theme song was good. I know the story from playing all the srw games though.
@romulux7 I think gundam 0079 was better and maybe some of the ova's. Maybe even 08th MS team, but many gundam series I don't consider better than ideon.
@IdeonFukkatsu I think Gundam 0079 was Tomino's best work, and I loved MS team. Ideon went in a different direction and had was cut short due to budget constraints. As much as I don't mind the movies, I really wish the series would have been given the proper TV ending it deserved.
People often say that the animation quality drops especially during the end of the series (BEFORE THE FILMS) where most of the animation staff was cut. I wonder if the plot would have been affected had the series ended without the movies.
Ideon also has some things in common with Space Pirate Capt. Harlock. The characters are stranded aboard starships, fighting off murderous aliens, and being rejected and exiled from earth.
Evangelion loved ripping off this show, sorry eva had alot of "inspired content" from this show, the production flaws resulting in 2 movies both happened to eva and Ideon, now how creepy is that?

I think Ideon is 105 meters tall. (A standard sized mobile would be an action figure in comparison). Much taller than Psycho Gundam (41 meters). Only source I found (a post on a forum, not an official source) said Gaogaigar is about 31.5 meters.

@KeeveSuikoden2Hero Ideon. The only things really able to beat the Ideon are Elder God Demonbane from sheer size (pops the universe it's in from sheer size and destroys others by brushing by) and the RahXephon during Retuning (by rewriting reality to remove the Ideon from existence).

@KeeveSuikoden2Hero Problem is, Decade also is stuck until his job is done and is mortal, while to put down the Ideon, you have to either rewrite reality (RahXephon), be the biggest mech in existence (Elder God Demonbane), or possibly absorb it (Getter Emporer).
Not even something like Sepheric EVA 01- which has the power of a God- can much do damage to the Ideon, so Decade's screwed.

@mklgf22 Nope...the real reason that Decade was created is because he is suppose to destroy every world that he visited and leave, until theres no world left except for his world and his world is where the Dai Shocker`s are and is also where all the Riders from the old days lived and kill all the the riders in that world including himself... is just that simple...so Decade is still a worthy opponent for Ideon...

its funny you say that, if you ever played super robot taisen F final, the pilot stats as they level up can go to 255 max...however, if the ideon becomes invoked, the character portrait of cosmo yuuki is replaced with a white light and his name is replaced with "IDE" and all his stats become 999. The ideon then becomes uncontrollable and shoots the ideon gun at friends and foe alike. Basically a game over because your own mother ship will die in a single hit.

I am watching this great serie in these days and i'm near the end (i have watched 31 of 39 episodes). I have found it incredibly deep and interesting, it has many layers of interpretation (psychological, metaphysical, symbolic) and isn't cheesy at all, and doesn't sell out to captivate the audience. I have found in particular incredibly strugging how the theme of the failure of communication , on many layers: between crewmates, betweens Buff Clan and Earth and between earthlings themselves.Great

Show wise, I prefer Evangelion myself.
But I'm going to be honest, I don't see why people argue over which robot show is better, or which robot could win in a fight.
Ideon can destroy the Universe, TTGL is a universe. To be honest, some shows have robots so powerful it's just insane. (Hence Ideon and TTGL) That doesn't mean that shows such as GaoGaiGar, and Getter Robo can't be epic. You simply have to stop comparing their strengths, when no one really cares who can beat who.

What really matters is how much "YOU" enjoyed the show, not which robot is stronger.
Also stop complaining about things "Stolen" from other mecha anime. The basis of all Mech anime are built from the same thing. It's an anime about giant robots. Not to mention that there are so many of them, that almost everything possible has been done. Rather, it's how the show does it that makes it matter, not who used the concept first.

I only saw the first ep of evangelion. The main character was too much of a whiny crybaby for me. Animation was great though and the theme song was good. I know the story from playing all the srw games though.

People often say that the animation quality drops especially during the end of the series (BEFORE THE FILMS) where most of the animation staff was cut. I wonder if the plot would have been affected had the series ended without the movies.
