I grew up here and this brought back very nice memories! I can taste the bread from Steubenville Bakery! and smell the chlorine at the Bellview pool! And shopping at the Hub was always fun! Those were the days!
i still live in Steubenville Ohio . i lived here my whole life but im only 13. ever since the mills went down so many people left. thats when steubenville went down the drain. down town is like a ghost town now,,,,.... ive seen pics from how steubenville used to ook . its a big differencenow ): i waih i could do something to helkl[p
Steubenville and Weirton both had their day in the 70s booming now they are both sad and scary - no city mayor has brought back any business for 40 years - dont get me wrong if it comes back then great but i dont know if anyone will try hard enough to get it back there
Nice look at Steubenville, grew up there and left in 1972 for an Air Force career. Went back in September for my 40th high school reunion and was shocked by the state of Steubenville today.
Nice portrayal of Steubenville, and good job incorporating the town's Catholic heritage. For those of us not from there but who visit often, Franciscan University is synonomous with Steubenville.
@Los Angeleno1959 There are alot of Italians, Greeks,Irish, Poles,African American, A little melting pot. Usually only big cities have such diversity. Even though the population has declined we have a alot more people from the far east and middle east than we ever did.
I used to live in Steubenville, moved 2-3 years ago. some people might call me crazy but i miss it. good to see alot of familiar places, i live in Alabama now
@LosAngeleno1959 Yes, of course Steubenville is still standing. Steubenville started as a fort known as Fort Steuben. It kept surveyors that were mapping out the west. At one time everything west of Steubenville was unkown territory. Fur traders also came to the fort to barder and sell there goods. People began settiling in the Ohio Valley along the Ohio River as they made there way out west. Steubenville began and it became a mill city, using the power of the river and had easy access
@LosAngeleno1959 to sending goods down river to Mississippi and beyond. If you type in Steubenville Big Red football you will see the cities high school football videos. They have one of the greatest high school football teams in the country. Losing there first regular season game last year in seven years. They went 15-0 two years in a row becoming back to back state champions in 2005-06. Much of the population is of Italian decent.
Even though I actually grew up in Toronto, Steubenville was also my home. I am so glad I grew up in a "small town." Wouldn't have traded it for anything. When my parents were still alive and we visited with our kids, their biggest joy was going to the corner store and getting penny candy. Their biggest laugh was seeing Dean Martin's image painted on the Kroger store wall. My mom used to tell me she remembers Jimmy the Greek and Dean Martin walking the streets of Steubenville.
Great video and song. Born and raised downtown Steubenville. Not far From Holy Name Church. Played football in the church parking lot and got chased out by priest. Loved meatballs heels, Joe's saugage shop, Antonuccis market, the south street store and the one across the street from the library. Moved away in 1970, been back acouple of times. Great little town and great people.
wow thank you sooo much for this vid, our family moved gradually last ones left 7 years ago to las vegas, what memories!!! would of liked to have seen the once booming Ft. Steub mall...i fell out of my chair when the holiday inn pic showing chicken buffet we always went after church (st anthonys or st petes) i loved their buffet!!!!! love the ville!!!!! miss the smell.
recognize reda family, great memories here! maybe a picture of a nun missing from st anthony's since I strongly remember them!! tommy t who dj'ed Joe's wedding, thanks for the memories, will pass on the link!
WoW! What memories. I left the area in 1955 after graduating from high School and live in CA now. Even though we all lived in Wintersville, Fri and Sat nights were spent in Steubenville. A fish bowl of 3.2 beer 25 cents. A shot of whiskey 75 cents. I know, we were underage, but those were the days. We never got drunk though. Ten pieces of DiCarlos pizza and a chocolate milk shake were just a snack for this 6'1" 160 lb. frame. Ya! lots of memories.
Hi. Thank you for putting together this wonderful slide show. I've watched it twice and it brings the memories flooding back. I was born and raised in Steubenville, lived in Pottery Addition, attended Harding Jr. Hight and SHS, class of '60. I'd love to know more about what looks like a watercolor or painting of downtown on a rainy evening with stores lighted up. This is the downtown I remember--caught the bus @ 4th & Market everyday. I'd love to know more about the painting, if you can help.
Excellent job of mixing the past with present. Those days are gone forever, and I miss them. I lived 15 years in Steubenville from age 3 to 18. I left in 1957 to join the service.
At the beginning when going over the bridge a few times your showing Weirton, Pittsburgh signs dumbass your going the wrong way....

Is there still an Italian American community in Steubenville? Is Dean martin's childhood home still standing? The history of the town interest me.
