He talks about meeting this girl in rehearsals who never even spoke to him and when she finally did, he was so excited that he wrote the beginning of the song. He was pleased with it but it wasn't complete until he spoke to that girl again and she made it clear that there was nothing going on (between them). His band didn't warm to the song either because it wasn't "heavy enough". Both situations combined pissed him off and he came up the ending he was after.
