Just wanted to publicly thank you for the dedication of this movie--to me! I love how are friendship moves warp speed ahead into new realms like filmmaking. You are a bloody genius and still the most talented obscure person I know!
I put those guys at 1:12 because they may be an "error".
I saw Quinto on stage with Nimoy in Las Vegas in '08, and Nimoy gave him his full approval and obviously likes him, so I'm hoping he will be OK. (Not so sure about Pine, whose body language seems all wrong for Kirk.)
Ehh, there're moments where he absolutely channels Shatner. Like that smoldering look he gives Spock right after Pike leaves, and that ending shot, where he's sitting in the Chair with his legs crossed.
BTW, video is awesome. Love the bullshitting about the ship; perfectly in character to have Jim chalk everything up to the Enterprise. Pretty soon, I'm going to start having to call the Enterprise "The other Spock who is beardless and made of metal."
Yeah, I admit CP got me when he did that little tribute at the end to the way Shatner's Kirk crosses his legs like a girl--one of my favorite of his signature postures.
You mean the 2009 movie, right, not the 1979 ST: TMP? (A lot of people don't like that first movie, but it's one of my favorites.)
I think some of us are so in love with the original series (and in my case, with Shatner's Kirk), the new boys just don't punch our clock. But I sure see a lot of energy from the new movie from fans at places like Live Journals's ontd_startrek
I hold to Star Trek ethos: there's room for all, and there's no such thing as too much love.
Oh, heaven, those slow afternoons on the big E, with poetry readings and Bach... Lovely. (The music puts me so strongly in the mind of Master and Commander that I nearly expected the Enterprise to be creaking and heaving in the wind.)
An interesting and stylish move to insert a glimpse of Pine and Quinto there! I'm still afraid the movie will be a huge action-packed disappointment (that's how I feel every other day, every other day I'm all excited) but only time will tell.
I believe I may have first wondered, "What do Jim and Spock do on slow shifts?" from you! (Also shades of Monty Python.)
I've never seen M and C--should I?
I too am worried/excited about the new movie. Making this vid was partly a reminder to myself that even if I hate it, I have nothing to lose--my original love will not alter when it alteration finds.
Anyway, I've bought my movie tickets for May 7, 7 p.m.: At least we'll get to see the original Spock again!
Oh, yes! I went out and rented "Master and Commander" and sure enough--they use the Bach cello suite for the Galapagos scenes--happy days, I'm glad to say, not the bits with people getting blown up, so that's all right.
Thanks for the tip!
And such a nice story about a captain and his science officer, too...
You we're quick! M&C is a great adventure per se, but also a very beautiful and thoughtful film with rather accurate portrayal of naval life at that time. And, as you point out, the captain and his science officer... enough said. (It makes me laugh that the original novels are actually referred to as the Aubrey/Maturin books.)
I have to wait a few more weeks before I see the new movie. Still wondering if I should wear my red uniform shirt to the occasion... That might be a bad omen...
It strikes me M&C is also much like "Wrath of Khan"--including the tricky ship moves. It also helped me see how a captain really and truly could be in love with a ship.
So, thanks!
Wearing a red shirt to the new movie might add just the right touch of campy irreverence, which I sense the movie may sadly be in need of...
Well, I can only say that both Trek and M&C draw a lot on Hornblower. But even dear old Horatio may not be the first fictional captain of that variety...
Heh, the red shirt might also add a touch of that retro feeling I'm definitely missing in what I've seen of the movie... I'm not very happy with the look of it, and definitely not happy with the Enterprise design, interior or exterior. But, as Kirk points out in your vid, his love for his ship endures alterations, so who are we to argue...
That last look on Kirk's face, heehee! Shatner is a fine actor, no matter what anyone says.

"Just like me and my ship." Ha ha. Clever!

It's always the ship, ship, ship with Jim, isn't it?!
frescadp 2 years ago
Exactly!
That's why the third movie is called "the Search for the Enterprise"---oh wait....

Well, that's many years later...
Jim can be kinda slow on the uptake, ya know. : )

But, of course.
Friendship survives even the alteration of media... drawing in the dirt with a stick or posting vids on youTube, it alters not!

Such a clever and classy video!
Your stylish, dry but sweet sense of humor mixed to this music makes this video a small brilliant jewel!
At 1:28 Spock's face is fantastic!
Only three seconds I was disappointed1:12 you know...who are those guys??? ;-)

Glad you liked the flirty ship stuff.
frescadp 2 years ago
McCoy gets in on the leg-crossing too, in TMP. I noticed when I was rewatching the second half of the movie for like the fiftieth time.
Is it a bad thing that I love TMP so much?

@SasukeIPwned
How could it be wrong to love anything Star Trek? I even love "Spock's Brain"! : )
frescadp 2 years ago
Ahhh, true true.
It's just that most of the fandom flinches when they hear the words "The Motion Picture."

Well, my dad (old school Trekkie) loves the new film and hates TMP, so I had to beg to get to watch TMP.
And, of course, there's never too much love.

Your comment is gratifying, Poodle, as I know you are not a Trek-lover, but you do know about the marriage of true minds!
