  • So im building a buick 350 with similair specs to yours it looks like now and was wondering if you would recomend that cam? im debating about the ta 212 or not alot of people say that one though.

  • @brianbruns its not too bad of a cam, a little small in my opinion. The TA-212 or the TA-284 camshaft with maybe .010" or so cut on the heads to smooth them up along with minor port work on the heads would probably be my go to combo if I was you(As far as a totally streetable daily driver that you can just jump in and go). Also Lunati's Voodoo 67001 camshaft would be a great choice with the minor head treatment previously stated. The best of luck to you.

  • Nice car, i have a 71 skylark with a 350 and wanted to know what you think about the ta intake, you notice a worthwhile difference?

  • @brianbruns Thank you, glad you chose a skylark. We didnt install the manifold alone, so i dont know how well the intake runs on a OEM camshaft, C:R, etc. but if you have a mild camshaft or mild head work the T/A will definately help flow more CFM than a factory cast unit...but also you have the added benefits of aluminum, it will dissipate the heat better, so i 'could' help prevent detonation of the intake charge. All in all i think it is worth it, ecspecially if you have future plans as well

  • @OldsPowered69 Ok eventually i would like to put in a mild cam but for now i want to start with something a little easier, i figured that the intake was easier and not to much money, getting new heads is a bit far out of my price range, so i can make my stock heads work alot better with the intake?

  • @honeybunches115 yeah, as far as the head work, i wasnt strictly speaking of NEW heads, but milling your current ones, so yes if in the future you do want to deck the heads/port/polish/blend, the intake will DEFINATELY be worthwhile(and needed)

I dont know if the intake will make the stock heads flow Better, but the intake will for sure maximize the flow the stock heads can manage.

better head flow, no. Utilizing 100% of the factory design, yes. I definately would get it, and i did. ;)

  • quick question where did you get the mirrors?

oh and do they always sound like that the 40s or do they progress by time?

  • Hey is that a cutty to the left?

  • @roytboga it sure is!

  • nice...!...could u please tell what is the timing mark on it....thanks..

  • @crashez21 i believe its 8* initial and about 32* total...thanks

  • nice man!

  • YOUR CAR SOUNDS SO HOT

  • @TheOldcarlover thx! ;-)

  • makes me miss my 468ci lark!i wish that jerk never woulda hit me!

  • @philthyco dang, what had happened?!?!?! and mods?

    op69

  • @OldsPowered69 yea it was a 468ci buick, crane cam, keith black pistons, around 12:1 comp ratio.i got hit on the front drivers side coming threw a intersection and the frame got bent...sold the car 4 cheap becuz i didnt have room 4 it at the time...shoulda kept that big block though.. it had tons of torque!

  • @philthyco wow, sounds hella healthy! that really really, reallllllllllly sucks my friend... ever dyno it? or run down a strip? i bet it was an easy low 11; high 10 car. hopefully you will get another lark soon enough.

in the meantime ill rep BOP for the both of us ;)

    one love,

    OldsPowered69

  • @OldsPowered69 i have a small block olds in my 1977 cutlass so im still repping BOP.i have a 383 chevy in my 68 c10 also.never dyno my buick..only had the 468 in it a few months b4 it was hit..this was in 2003..never made it to the track either..but i beat ls1 camaro's and the 03 cobra's with it.!gotta love BOP power!

  • @OldsPowered69 check out my vids ..peace.

  • id like to know what kinda times this thing would run. its the way id like to build mine

  • BTW I saw a '72 Skylark a few days ago...golden brown color with a tan vinyl top. A tad smaller wheels, but boy was it a good looking and sounding car. Made me think of this one. (I think it had a bigger engine tho.)

  • nice!

  • Yeah dude it was the very definition of GM Sexiness lol.

  • i got a buick 350 too ...i purchased the comp cam 268he,,,since you a builder what all do i have do to install the cam? and what other parts of the enginge or heads do i need to upgrade with the new cam...by the way 1970 buick 350 hi-compression/ 2.5 super 40 flow/ ta headers/ ta intake/800 edelbrock carb

  • @gorillacar

well not really a whole much, the camshaft isnt really too radical, so you can use the factory valvetrain...but depending on how high ur compression is, i would say that the 800 edelbrock maybe a little overkill...a well tuned q-jet(if ur into them) or spring for a 670 holley, or a edelbrock equivalent... but anyway thats just my two cents, hehe...

sounds like a nice street car ur building!! keep up the good work, way to rep. for BOP.

  • some people say the stroke on the 350 buick is longer than most big blocks so i was told to get the bigger carb for more air????

  • yeah, the stroke is fairly long in comparison. Is the car running the 800 as of now? or no? if so it may very well need all that carb(depending on ur CR) but if the car is running pump gas compression then the 800 might be a bit much... but who knows when you get it together you can always play with the rods and jets for the right fuel flow.

    good luck.

    OldsPowered69

  • dude. im really into buicks. a buick 350 has long skinny intake runners in the stock heads. this allows a higher velocity. meaning a buick 350 can accept a monster carb. depending on where you live, anywhere between 700 and 850 is perfect. with a 268 cam it seems like youre right on the money

  • have you heard anything about comp cam mother thumper cams for the buick 350 or 455 yet...i was looking at the cams and their lobe centers is like 108 do that mean anything???

  • @gorillacar

yeah, i have heard quite a few things about the thumper cams from comp...alot of people feel that the cam is mainly for sound, and not for much power. they grind them on the 108 lobe center separation angle for that lopey sound, which just means the distance of the lobes from peak to peak is 108 degrees apart, as appose to a standard aftermarket cam with 110 for street use...now if you dont have plenty of cylinder pressure and use that cam, you will be losing compression. cont

  • so having a closer LSA with not too much duration or lift tells me its pretty sluggish, compared to performance cams...the only reason you may want a camshaft like that(and can put it to use) is if you had say too much compression and you wanted to bleed off the cylinder pressure for use with pump gas or something to that effect...on the other hand, thats why turbocharged application camshafts are typially ground on a 114 or so LSA, because your trying to build PSI, not lose it ;)

  • the car has never been dyno'd but i imagine its somewhere in the 350-360hp range...just a solid 1hp per cube build... thanks

  • god I miss my skylark. had a 72 2door "post" model with the venerable BUICK 350. what a great car.

  • I noticed the hood on your buick has an unusual hood scoop on it. I know about the GS hood scoop but that is usually in the mid section of the hood. my question is or rather questions is that does the scoop function and is that a custom hood or factory?

  • thanks for asking!

    - it is an actual 1968 GS hoop scoop, Factory GS' came with this scoop. Mounting directly above the hood louvers. Also the "B.U.I.C.K." on the nose is from 68-69 Custom's.

As for this Skylark, the scoop isn't functional, though it is quite easily possible to make functional. See Nascar Air Intakes.

    Keith

  • Nice! will it mount on the 72 without any modification?

  • sent pm

  • naw i was just bs u got some nice shit is that ur 69 what all have u done to it

  • lol thats good to hear, i didnt know what else i was gonna say...tehehe yeah the 69 S is mine, and the 72 350 is my brothers. As for my 69 its not a whole lot as far as performance goes, but it includes the following: W-31 Qjet carb. W-31 Camshaft Edelbrock RPM performer intake manifold Hooker competition header's 2.5" OG 40 flowmaster exhaust w/turndowns 50,000V HEI ignition (MSD 8.5mm wires) ART CARR transmission HD sprag gear B&M comp. plus shift kit.
  • i couldnt reply in one messege so this one continue's...

if you want to know any other things that i have done or want to know future plans you can see my other video of the cutlass "walk around" or just ask! :)
