@MrGhostwhowalks Quantas use their engines at the design limits at takeoff because the aircraft has maximum fuel load for their extremely long haul flights. A manufacturing issue was discovered where a misaligned component rubbed oil lines which cracked under stress, leaked oil into the IP turbine cavity which ignited, softening the IP turbine disc which shattered. It is a temporary directive untill the issue is completely solved, however the engine's MCT thrust ratings have been reduced

Hasn't Qantas been directed to carry only 80 people in A380s for this engine? Less than 1/5 of the proposed passengers . .
