  • Regardless the inconsistencies, this ending with the Ewoks singing is so much better than the redub that Lucas ought to be ashamed of himself...that is coming from a kid who saw the original at age 6 and stood in line 23 times to watch Jedi during the summer of its release. George...give your fans some cred and stop making the anti hollywood film into the worst HW action sequence ever...<3

  • They're both ok, but putting back in Whiny Anakin into the ending was just wrong.

  • This one is silly. You don't end a movie with this.

  • I liked the newer one better, because it's all triumphant and stuff, but this one isn't bad either.

  • I listened to an interview with George Lucas about his new movie "Red Tails". In said interview (it was on NPR) George Lucas the memory killing fat cat that he is said and I quote. "Red Tails was a hard movie to find a distribution company because of the ALL BLACK CAST." All black cast? In the trailer there are white guys all over the screen.

Lucas you are a god damned fake. And you are a bad story teller. There is a level reserved in hell for you. LIAR!

  • @Iliveintherealworld he tried to get the movie made in 1988. now it is different.

  • @Jdshald It's "different" that Lucas, the Starbuck's sitting and knitting fatso Jabba that he is, LIED about an ALL BLACK CAST! No sir! It is not "different".

  • @Iliveintherealworld ok i guess thats true in hindsight but is it really that important that it is an all black cast? Ruining star wars seems like more of a crime.

  • @Jdshald Touche!

  • This is truly a perfect ending. Why? The heroes get to celebrate for once! They made their final victory, and we get to see them actually being HAPPY for once. The song is awesome, shows the true simplicity and power of the greatest heroes in the galaxy partying it up with the most unlikely of supporters. The vestiges of the empire continue to fight after the battle of Endor, so there would not have been galaxy wide celebrations so soon. This ending is great, and I'm glad I still have it on VHS.

  • @ShadeStar64 I envy you my VHS copy was eaten by my old machine. C'est la vie I guess, but thank goodness for youtube showing the original version.

  • I don't think either of the endings are very fitting

  • *sigh* guys, this isn't a "dinky" ending. There's this thing called an emotional climax. After that was all over we had plenty of falling action: Vader and Luke talk without the mask on, Luke escapes the death star... it blows up, the other plots wrap up... and then Luke burns up Vader's body and puts it all to rest. It doesn't make no sense to have the other planets celebrating. IT JUST HAPPENED. it'll take years to undo the damage of the empire. This was about the victory of Endor.

  • yub yub ewok yo yub yub lyrics to the yb tub song

  • i knew it was fucking old vadar who appears at the end in the original version, not freaking hayden christensen.

i see what you did there, lucas.

  • The new ending isn't as awesome in my opinion. I prefer this, I grew up on this version and it's cute!

  • this song was removed?

  • Yub nub eee chop yub nub ah toe meet toe pee-chee keene g'noop dock fling oh ah Coatee chah tu yub nub coatee chah tu yahwah coatee chah tu glowah allay loo ta nuv Glowah eee chop glowah ya glowah pee chu nee foam ah toot dee awe goon daa Coatee cha tu goo (Yub nub!) coatee cha tu doo (Yahwah!) coatee cha tu too (Ya chaa!)
  • I like the new song better

  • This ending, without the ridiculous changes George makes, is so much more fitting and appropriate. To all you haters: yub nub rules, and the prequels SUCK.

  • I prefer the new song has more emotions...

  • Episode IV came first. It's just good parenting.

  • Awesome.....and German!!!

  • it's been so long since i head this one...

  • Shouldn't Luke be in the nearest burn ward?!?!

  • Best version since it doesn't have Hayden Christensen grafted on to it

  • I actually had never seen this ending before either, since the first version I watched had the other song in it. Thanks for posting it though, I actually liked it! I'm not sure if I like it better, but it's cute.

  • 1:19 "Det luktar flingor här"

  • I think this is the first time Lucas made a change that was better. This song is fine, and I'm sure it meant alot to those who saw the originals in theater, but the celebration song is alot better.

  • Its like editing a piece of art. The original was beautiful and perfect just the way it was. Nothing should have been changed including this final scene.

  • It's weird because I know that I saw this as a child yet I don't remember it. I remember the original, scarier, beak-less sarlacc so I know I saw this version of RotJ. Oh well. I vastly prefer the 1997 ending that cuts out the Yub Nub song. I don't know if it's because this is ripped from a VHS, but I don't get the same epic sense of conclusion that I do from the special edition.

  • Wow, I feel weird reading that people have never seen this ending before. Not sure how I feel about that.

  • I'v never actualy seen this ending before i'v got all the star war dvds but when i watch the end of this it's anakin from episode 1,2 and 3,so thanx for posting this andiblack.

  • Thank you for posting this. I'm so not a SW geek but when I heard on Diggnation that Lucas had removed this, it kind of sent me over the edge. I was a wee child when this came out and I remember dancing around singing the Yub Nub song. Why would anyone change it? Agreed on Sebastian Shaw being kept as ghost Anakin.

It's not all about consistency, George. A child wouldn't get the difference and every serious adult fan would and wonder, WHAT IS THIS?

And really, it's the Yub Nub song!!

  • I don't mind the Ewoks but frankly this song doesn't even sound like it's coming from Ewok voices.

  • Besides Sebastian Shaw as the ghost, I miss Luke's wink at 2:15 the most.

  • I think this is OSSOM.

  • 1:39 and 1:47 those Ewoks are very happy. That makes me happy too.

  • You really feel this ending everyone comming together again. The new ending while good on paper and looks good.. It lacks the emtion that this ending gives you

  • 59 musicians who participated in the remade version of this scene disliked this video.

  • I don't mind the Yub Nub ending but kind of like the longer Special Edition one more with the exception of Hayden replacing Sebastian Shaw. The newer ending makes it feel more like the conclusion of an epic. Plus there's more footage of the celebration. In my opinion Yub Nub is too short of a conclusion to the Star Wars saga. But George should give us the option of seeing either version of the film so we can watch it with either ending.

  • I like the original far better than the new one. And, that also goes for the original trilogy versus the remastered version.

  • ewoks know how to party

  • The 1997 ending was the best. The new song at the end makes me kinda teary eyed.

  • See this ending feels more canon to me... Tatooine in in Hutt space, and the rest are still held under Imperial control... this focuses more on the Battle of Endor being a Win for the Rebels... the new ending completely over looks the Rogue Squadron novels that tell of the fight to take back the Galaxy and restore the republic... I mean the new ending is as if the Grand Moffs just said, "Well they killed the Emperor. Everyone turn over you weapons and spaceships."

  • the other song was a lot more satisfying and heartwarming than this one

  • @samuraiasasassin21 Ah, but the simplicity of this one gives the feeling of a new beginning. It's a breathe of fresh air from the amazing contemporary score. Furthermore, the way it builds with the contemporary instruments & chorus and merges into the end credits... purely epic.

  • I prefer this song but enjoy the newer footage version.

  • In the new ending, Coruscant is shown.

Coruscant, by the way, has nothing to do with the original story. Ever.

On Coruscant, not even a massive scale war changed a damn thing. Isn't it so dramatic when a war does nothing to a civilization at home?

    Oh, wait...

So why the hell do I care about Coruscant? Left to its own devices, nothing happens. They build a statue. Then they tear it down. That's about it.

  • This music and this ending churn up so many wonderful childhood memories that it's ridiculous...STAR WARS has been a part of my life since I was barely a toddler. These movies are some of the best things that ever happened to me as a kid.

  • wow, im so glad he changed the music and added the other planets to the ending here. this ending is soo dinky!

  • I like both endings but changing Sebastian Shaw was silly

  • I concur with others who think that this older ending with only ewoks and without hayden christensen is better.

  • The new version sucks a dick.

  • ...honestly, the 'other' ending, with all movie planets showed is muuuch better than this

  • When I watch the end I always feel a tingling sensation in the body: D

  • to hell with all the re edited changes. I'm a star wars purist. if it wasn't in the original theatrical version, then I want no part of it.

  • @VongolaAQW223 yeah okay right after you suck my cock

  • Miss that song. Why George? WHY?

  • @joshjhutton Because George Lucas has gone to the Dark Side. He's twisted and evil!!!

  • @Haunted00Horse No, there's still good in him, I know it. The media hasn't driven it from him fully.

  • @joshjhutton the climax up to just where the credits started was awesome! the other version sucks in comparison

  • @joshjhutton

it is because yub nub has more energy than the 1997 ending music. when you keep the song that has more energy in the ending of the climatic chapter of the star wars saga, it would make this a cliffhnager.

  • @joshjhutton WHY? because it's horrible, after winning a great victory and restoring peace to the galaxy the new song fits more coz it brings more harmony and salvation to the ending instead of this drug party song

  • YUB NUB!!!!!

  • @pittrr66 congratulations!!!! You have just made one of the stupidest statements ever said by a human being.

  • Why reedit if you can remake it george lucas? so people can either prefer the nice and shiny remakes or the vintage originals.

  • Greedo shooting first doesn't bug me.

CG-ing everything doesn't really bug me.

Adding Hayden Christensen doesn't bug me.

They changed the celebration song and that makes me RRRRRRRRAAAAAAGGGGGEEEE!!!!!!!!!

  • this is a billion times better than the new one. Anyone who prefers the new versions is either too young, on crack, or both.

  • BOOO. special edition song is way better! dont care if this is original.

  • The Special Edition ending of Jedi for me is the most offensive thing GL changed in all of the Trilogy... .... fuck its awful

  • F'ing horrible!! Best thing GL ever did was get rid of dopey song that ruined the end of the trilogy.

  • It's important to note that Lando is dancing along with the music. If you watch him in the background his little dance doesn't quite fit to the new one track. It only fits during the end shot, but only just.

  • Yeah! No Hayden Christensen ending!

  • i like the new ending more,it just goes better with the ending than this

  • Fix your tracking dude

  • I'm in the generation that grew up with the 1997 VHS with new music (old Anakin though!) I think given its context, this is cute - certainly fits with the ewoks - though I think the orchestral version fits well when you see the whole galaxy celebrating (from added clips, of course), instead of just ewoks

  • @grapesofwraith1066 Too bad all those people celebrating on Coruscant were killed then?

  • I don't get how anyone can like the new version. The Ewoks are supposed to be a primitive culture and the original song suits that scenario much better than the smooth jazz crap that doesn't even match the picture. It looks ridiculous to see Ewoks hitting drums comepletely out of sync with the audio.

  • who the hell is that guy stasndin next to yoda

  • @1065chris It's Anakin/Vader.

  • The bizarre message that starts flashing at 2:21 apparently is unique to the German rental version of ROTJ, advertising a trailer for the "Ewoks" TV show that plays after the end credits as an extra.

Why they decided to interrupt the movie with this message instead of announcing it in the "previews/coming attractions" section of the tape is beyond me. Totally weird, that.

  • Star Wars for the win !!!!!!!!!

  • When I saw the new version, I yelled at the screen and immediately had to look-up and re-watch this one. All of the new changes suck, but the "new ending" has to be the worst.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't mind the changes in the special editions and the blu ray release. This song grew on me throughout the years. It's hard to watch the ending without the original celebration song.

But I especially dislike how they changed Anakin's spirit. It made no sense. He already switched back before he died. It's not like they replaced Obi Wan or Yoda's spirits with stock footage from Revenge of the Sith.

Luke is probably like "who in the blue hell is that kid" in the recent releases.

  • lmao it's funny how that for Darth Vader's funeral they lit him on fire..cuz thats where he really wants to be anywhere near fire again after burning alive XD

  • i find this ending to be FAR superior to all the other versions. this is how it SHOULD be

  • Man this sounds so corny now...........

  • @SuperMicklovin Compared to even cornier smooth jazz?

  • @chubstheclown I prefer the new song

  • fail

  • @birdmanswag Shut up docuhebag

  • @birdmanswag Shut the fuck up and get a life

  • Those ewoks have voices that sound like some professional Hollywood choir group.. it's amazing!

  • John Williams and the Ewok Orcrstra, no, the music should sound Ewok not the bull we get today.

  • I like the old version but cant stand this fucking song

  • I looked this up to see what the guy for anakin looked like. in the new ones they put in the anakin from return of the sith

  • It fits the mood better? Are you people deranged? The music doesn't sync up at all in the new version and it's barely celebratory music. THIS is a celebration.

  • i absolutely hate the new version, every time i watch episode 6 now i have to come on youtube just to watch the original ending

  • This ending was all right but the new version was a better ending seeing more planets celebrate peace than just one.

  • I grew up watching ROTJ with the original yub nub song. I hate that Lucas changed it.

  • can't wait for the blu-ray. then i got them on VHS, dvd and blu-ray.

  • hey guys if you buy the Star Wars 6 disk trilogy the first disk does have the new crappy version but the "bonus features" disk has the original version on it

  • I'll side with the crowd who prefers this to the new ending they replaced it with. You have the surviving rebels celebrating with an indigenous people who are quite primitive. Yeah, sorry George, but that means they don't have access to a full orchestra's worth of instruments, and chances are their music is probably as primitive as they are.

And yeah, Sebastian Shaw should have been kept as ghost Anakin.

  • @Ruisu7 yes if they replaced sebastan shaw as hayden christensen why they didnt replaced obi wand as ewan mcgregor too?sebastian shaw should stayed and this music too,Lucas lost his sense for film in his old days.

  • @Ruisu7 he lost his mind....

  • i had never seen this ending before and i love it. come on lucas i want to see the original cut of your films! here's a solution, Lucas you obviously won't stop changing these scenes okay, so go nuts but do what Ridley Scott did for the Blade Runner Blu-Ray it had like 5 cuts on there, so seriously just make your little changes but give us an higher definition version of your ORIGINAL untouched films....please Lucas please.

  • I have no love for the Lucas' needless revisions, but...I have always fucking hated Yub Nub.

  • Please tell me someone has covered this at some point. My imagination is telling me that this could sound amazing if done right.

  • all the star wars movies are amazing new and old, buuut nothing beats the old

  • wesa free!!

  • this is my all-time favorite movie!

  • New Star Wars movies and CGI edition = HERESY

  • This IS my Star Wars!

  • Not having that choral piece blend seamlessly and beautifully into the main Star Wars Theme is absolutely criminal. George, I love ya man. But put it back in the damn movie. Put it back!

  • The only thing I hate about the new version is the fact that they put Hayden Christensen, I mean, seriously, Anakin came back to the good side so why put the young him instead of the older him? Don't tell me "to put his Jedi self" because he came back to the light side when he threw the Emperor off the platform...

  • @ux92 Well there was no older Anakin. He never existed as anyone older than Hayden Christensen except in his mangled form that required the Darth Vader mask, etc. So the only whole being for him to "return" to was as Hayden. I always assumed the Anakin seen in this video was who he was _before_ he became Vader, and that was rewritten in the prequels.

  • @oisact On the contrary, I assumed Darth Vader throwing the Emperor off the platform was Anakin's comeback to the Light Side, thereby leaving the name of Darth Vader behind.

If he had survived I bet he'd introduce himself as "Anakin" again :P

  • star wars is too confusing, i dont understand what episodes are what and who is who and what the heck is going on

  • @JakayBalay202 There's nothing confusing about Star Wars. I understood the story and characters when I was twelve and I wasn't a hardcore fan back then. Still not one yet. You can either watch episodes 123 which are prequels or the original trilogy which are episodes 456, which in reality are the first ones made, but since Lucas wanted to redo the story and take it to the past, they count as later episodes. You can watch either trilogy and understand the story.

  • The new song is also very good, it's just that I grew with this version. You can't change things like that...

  • Whoever is singing, it clearly isn't the Ewoks.

  • This song is obnoxious... never mind. I'll take Hayden Christiansen

  • @AltoYourClef Try the 1997 SE. It has the new song and no Hayden.

  • I always imagine what happens after that bit where Leia and Luke walk away together. "So Luke, remember when we kissed? Let's not talk about that again....."

  • @Metallideth1993 lol thats gotta be the most embarassing moment ever

  • it's all about jaja binks!

  • Anakain....Looks very very very weird...

  • YES!

  • I like the new version, but I prefer the old version more

  • I love this ending and the song, is so happy and full of energy and i don't like the ewoks that much. The moment when Anakin appears along yoda and Obi Wan is very touching, you see a father figure and a nice person, the complete opposite of Darth Vader and Hayden Christensen, i have nothing against the guy but his Anakin is a pansy.

F**k the haters and the prequels fans.

  • @juan120 The prequels must have been too complex for you. I don't see how Return of the Jedi is much better.

  • damn george lucas to hell for cutting this music out of the newer editions of the dvd!!!!

  • I've always hated the Ewoks, and wut the hell does Yub Nub mean, anyway?

  • Comment removed

  • @hulkmeister23 Freedom.

  • You can shave your Yub Nub for me to, whoa ha ho hoy! - Family Guy.

  • Ha, haa, haaah! (amp, don't be too naIve!) Heyeaih!

  • Star Wars ; Episode VII = The Beginning

Star Wars ; Episode VIII = The Return of the Cat

Star Wars ; Episode IX = The End of Darth

  • -I prefer the tune of the new song, It has more emotion, but if George kept the original it would have been better, because we would never have experienced the new one, therefore we wouldn't miss it if it went

-I prefer Sebastian Shaw instead of Hayden. But I suppose that George was just looking to the future and wanted a more reckognisable face. However, the audience has just watched the whole film, so they would reckognise sebastians face.

    To sum up:

    -New song is great

    -Hayden is not

  • @theone225 So watch the 1997 Special Edition. It has the new song and no Hayden.

  • @DarthRushy Yes, I know, that's the only one I like watching lol

  • @theone225 What about the Emperor Palpatine scene in Episode V, which version do you watch there?

  • the new song is fucking gay..... the should've stayed with the original. Not to mention the mistake of having Hayden Christiansen as a young Anakin in the new ending as well, they might as well have changed Obi-Wan to Ewan McGregor while they were at it. Doesn't make sense. Like, at all.

  • Why did they change the end theme music? I think its cuter anyway and when you watch the new movie the ewoks playing the drums, etc. aren't in sync with anything :(

  • thumbs up if you think ewoks are hot.. just saying

  • thanks for uploading the original version!

  • Return of the Jedi is the best space film ever made. .but pan and scan sucks. .nevertheless. .Thank you for uploading this!

  • This is meant to be the climax of the biggest movie saga (and franchise) of all time and this pathetic nonsensical drivel is all they could come up with! The end of New Hope was more climactic. The remastered version of this is INFINITELY better; it's not even a subjective issue.

  • Devote your life to the rebellion- receive not as much as an afterthought when you are killed

Devote your life to the destruction of the rebellion- get a fancy funeral when you die

  • schalten sie noch nicht ab

    DIE EWOKS KOMMEN...

    Talk about forboding!

  • lol @ people who like that horrendous new one better. not only are we reminded of how cartoony Lucas made star wars, but we're forced to see that pitiful, thespian wannabe, Hayden Christensen.

  • @zscman122 The only good thing from the remastered version is the music.

  • @zscman122 yah the only thing good about remastered is music, but than again the old music is more nostalgic. I grew up with the prequels but i did not appreciate hayden replacing the original actor for the ending.... but it wasnt his choice it was all george X_X

  • i know this is the original ending but before this video i only ever watched the restored ending which is amazing this version is rubbish if you ask me the music is not as good as the restored version and well just not as good

  • Im glad they changed the ending

  • 1:25 wait, I thought Luke tossed his lightsaber down the pit on the Death Star?

  • @Gyarretto7 Nope, he tossed it to the floor, aside. I imagine he later had it fly to his belt while he dragged Vader to the shuttle. ;)

  • @Odor66 They put the younger version of Anakin, shown in the "newer" Star Wars, because that was what he looked like before he went to the dark side. They wanted Luke and the viewer to see that Luke saw his father as a changed man and that he was still a Jedi and not a Sith. :)

  • @Odor66 lame

  • I discovered I was getting old by finding out that people actually like the new version better...fucking blasphemy man

  • @xBinskix yea it sucks. it took me forever to find this on top of things.

  • @xBinskix screw the CGI crap

  • @xBinskix Sorry but how is that bad? I can understand hating on Lucas' changes like young Anakin's ghost and the other stuff but the Victory Celebration is a great piece of music by John Williams. I personally prefer it. Oh no, now I'm not a loyal Star Wars geek am I? I mean come on! Hate on Lucas' changes but don't diss John Williams

  • Why hate on George Lucas? He made the film that we love and it's his to do whatever he wants to, I just personally like the old version better, to each his own, film is art and art is always open for interpretation nobody is right and if you like the John Williams version better than great.............but I know of at least 40 people that don't...not that that means anything though.

  • @xBinskix Well yeah I'm grateful that he gave us these films and the Indy films. But altering them in every few years and not even offering us the originals to buy is why I hate him. I mean I love the original version of ET. Spielberg changed it but at least he offered us the older version on DVD. George Lucas believes that he's always right about everything and that others can't make their own decisions. If they were given the choice, I'm sure most people would buy the pre-1997 versions

  • @xBinskix I hate every other change made by Lucas but I will admit but I must admit I do prefer the new version when it comes to the end. It just fits the mood more.

  • @bloodmercs Agreed. While this one will always have its place in film history and will always retain its own charm, the updated ending and, in particular, the new score that John Williams composed do far, far greater justice to the film. It gives a much stronger sense that the rebellion not only won the battle, they finally freed the galaxy. And the updated score is a much, much better followup to the solemnity of Anakin's funeral.

  • @KeizerXilian So people play smooth jazz when they free galaxies? That's news to me.

  • @xBinskix i love all the star wars

  • oh lord. I love the revised one instead of this yub nub. the song in the revised kinda makes me teary lol because the saga ending and would have like to see more.

  • I guess that it's because I grew up with the 1997 but... no, that one from 1997 is totally more epic and fits a lot better the Grand Finale of this Space Opera. This is... cute, the other one is fucking epic.
