As a Ranger fan this moment was so special. When I was in 1st grade the Isles won their last of 4 cups. The Rangers won the cup the night before my last day of High School ever (I grew up on Long Island) That ONE DAY was worth 12 years of crap I had to take from Isles fans. Of all the championships that the various teams I root for have won.. this is by far the most special. Sam was right...It will last a lifetime. Best sport in the world, hardest trophy to win BY FAR! I get a kick out of the Devil and Islander fans who can't resist reliving the worst moment of their hockey lives by thinking they can break our spirit with some dopey comment. This was the sweetest moment ever and made even better by disposing of the Islanders and Devils along the way. This was'nt a celebration in an arena parking lot or on Hempstead Turnpike with a couple of volunteer fire departments, this was winning in the real New York. By the way enjoy the playoffs guys.
@chevydkrs The Islander fans come here for a few reasons. First is despite winning 4 cups in a row they never captured New York the way the Rangers did. The second is their last cup was way back in 1983. Now while 1994 isn't exactly recent, at least MANY Ranger fans saw their team win it all (including me). But not too many Islander fans witnessed their team win anything, ever. The third reason is the Rangers DESTROYED the Islanders in the playoffs SO BAD this year in 1994, they NEVER RECOVERED!

All world goalie, four outstanding defensemen under 25, a ton of scoring talent coming up (Kreider, Thomas, Grachev, Zuccarello) a huge enforcer in McIlrath, plus another elite 20 year old defensive prospect traded for 2 second rounders to Calgary this year. Devils have an aging goalie, no $, and no coach.

Sather dumped Gomez's contract and stole McDonough, and now they're buying out Drury's last year. Past is past. I like the rangers future better than NJs.

this was the first year I started watching hockey and first time watching the finals. been a pens fan this last 20yrs but seeing mark messier hoist the cup gives such a warm feeling, he more than most ive ever seen deserved that cup.

The Rangers deserved the Cup at least once during the '70s. Those were great teams to watch! Battling tremendous teams like the Bruins, Flyers, and Canadiens, but always coming up short. All I can say is 1994 was WAY past due! Rangers fans are the greatest!! Glad we got at least THIS one!!

@chevydkrs Im just saying give them alittle respect. Yea they're not from new york and they dont sign big free agents, but they work with what they have. And they adjusted pretty well after the lockout, and even signed Kovalchuk. The rangers didn't have any offense this season either, it was all 3-2, 2-1 games.
Its just the attitude rangers fans have towards the devils that makes me hate them. I know it goes both ways but I respect the rangers more when their fans don't talk shit.

All world goalie, four outstanding defensemen under 25, a ton of scoring talent coming up (Kreider, Thomas, Grachev, Zuccarello) a huge enforcer in McIlrath, plus another elite 20 year old defensive prospect traded for 2 second rounders to Calgary this year. Devils have an aging goalie, no $, and no coach.

@gleeson630 the Kovalchuk signing was a fiasco so it's not like the devils are strangers to bad contracts, and if you lose Parise it'll be because of money. Yes the Rangers used to mortage the future for overpriced over-the-hill veterans, but they've changed that culture and since 2005 have been hitting home runs in the draft. Sather dumped Gomez's contract and stole McDonough, and now they're buying out Drury's last year. Past is past. I like the rangers future better than NJs.
