  • @RageOverdose I agree with you, gameplay is more of a factor to me than realism cause the way I see it is this, no matter how beautiful the graphic or realistic the game is but the gameplay sucks bad=still sucks on the other hand a game with a very balanced and awesome gameplay but may not have the best graphics or realism is still a game of choice to me

  • It seems the Artificial Intelligence of all types of units are at least 3x higher than starcraft 1 units which decreases the amt of micro managing. hmmmmmm agree?

    No matter how intelligent units get, they still need a human player to control them. And Blizzard aint dumb to add an auto micro AI, that'd make the game boring. It would be all about macro skills then.

  • @atsusamuno from the numerous amt of SCII that ive watched, the strategy is different. eg. mutalisks cannot be controlled as cheaply like Jaedong has been in SCI. Eg2- the AI of zealots and marines were much less in SC1- their walking patterns were scattered. In conclusion, when i mean AI, i mean the walking/flying patterns of the units, but like you said Blizzard will probably fix it. From watching SC2 vids im not too happy

  • I'm liking SC2 since they are intentionally building the game around the current style of play in the competitive scene: early game micro shifting into later game macro (and potentially end game micro as well). These things weren't around until the concepts were mapped out as the pro games went on. It's interesting to see if this game ends up evolving more.

    Also, whoever said anything about map realism, screw that. It's about map balance and metagame, not stupid realism.

  • agreed and all the maps they are showing are identical so That is what makes an RTS and any other Multiplayer game balanced

  • @RageOverdose I don't think you know what "micro" means. "micro" is short for "micromanage", which is just a fancy word for "issueing commands" to your force.

  • @dustomatic1974 Actually, micro in the sense of SC is best defined as a more powerful control of your units that increases their effectiveness, where it is required because of the fact the AI has many flaws. Just moving a unit is not micro, and neither is just attacking. Kiting, army splitting, directing melee units around walls because of targeting AI, and some of the many abilities culminate micro.

    However, I realize now micro is important all the time.

  • @dustomatic1974 Actually it's a fancy word for increasing the efficiency of your units by controlling them individually. Your definition is off, because issuing commands is not micro, although it can be. Dogs are animals, but not all animals are dogs.

    I was talking about early game micro, like Dragoon micro against Marines or the first tank in Brood War, and then the mid to late game where macro usually takes precedence and you have large armies, then end game where resources get scarce.

  • is there any way to unburrow zerg in SC2? with the addition of the roach, you can have an army of 6-8 roaches, attack, and when you are about to die, burrow, heal, and attack again. basically an invincible army, so a little OP

  • Well, from the sounds of it, their HP regeneration sounds kinda ridiculous...at least to me...But, I don't know the specifics of it, and one could only imagine that it is subject to change.

  • they changed some of the game mechanics for these battle reports so you can see more of what can be done instead of sitting and waiting for stuff

  • oh please, I'm on USEast, i'm Nasty_Blitzer so hit me up. i'm almost 400 wins and about 40 loses, so i lose once every 10 games, i'm a B+ player :) and i've played terran ever since i began back in 1999. I dont even know the hot keys for zerg or toss LOL so thats why i'll go terran, GO HUMANS!

    they appear at the same place on the tech tree that hydras used to

  • The maps are terribly small and seem to be designed in 'paths' rather than realistic battlefields.

    The gameplay is based on the same old *cheesy*, exploitative tactics as WC3. To put it another way, Blizzard determines EVERY possible strategy a player can come up with and implements it in a very hardwired, concrete manner. The way players get 'good' is by peeling away layers of noob and initial explore-the-game confusion to uncover the cookie-cutter playing style that all the 'pros' know.

  • i have to admit that starcraft 2 is looking better and better with each video,well they promised us that after the next battle report (this one) they will give us more info on the beta release date,lets hope they will keep their word

  • Battle Report was quite good, although far from perfect.

    A few random thoughts:

    - Animations are really impressive. Banshee portrait, Hatchery and Reaper death animations, the way Nighthawks roll around their axis sometimes; it all looks quite good.

    - Dustin Browder is a cool guy, but he needs to stop saying "what a great play" and "important new feature" every 5 seconds.

    - Robert Simpson on the other hand is quite level-headed and knowledgable. I want to hear more of him. :)

  • That's assuming they remain in their current form and aren't nerfed before the game is released. Based on what I've seen in this video and what the announcers said about the ability being new to everything and still being tested, I'd predict a nerf.

  • Wow jutykt, you see a video of a game in ALPHA state and call it crap. Thats like looking at a house while only the frames are half done and calling it crap. My point, ITS ALPHA. It is expected to still be buggy at this stage. Terrans arent "way too overpowered" they always have alot of firepower since SC1. The flaws I found in SC2 from this BR is that 1) Zerg need better anti-air 2) Zerg could have won if Matt teched up faster 3)Banelings walking? WTF? Give them back their roll, much cooler.

  • Generally, a good Zerg player should distract the Terrans into defense, while they expand and spam up a massive swarm, overwhelming the Terrans.

    This Zerg player seemed to be so busy with Micro, he forgot about the big picture.
