All I could think when this song was playing was "Sang Brother" - so much Soul & Passion in his voice… God Bless You Mr. Williams ~ Thank You for singing your songs!!!
Paul...my goodness...yet another great talent that left us far too soon. A beautiful song from an entertainer who painted a loving portrait with his heartfelt renditions.
I closed my eyes and drifted back to the 60s and 70s. Damn, music was real then.
My God! This is a great song by Paul Williams. He could have a wonderful solo career. Paul Williams just had Outstanding talents as a singer, dancer, performer and choreographer. Lets continue to keep this great Temptations memory ALIVE.
I will never forget that night when the Temps were in San Francisco at Winterland and Martha Reeves helped me to sneak on the bus right afte the show. We went to the Motel on Van Ness and sung together all night long. Great guys. My singing group, The Elegents, didn't believe that I had spent the night with the Motown crew until I took them back to the Motel and Melvin greeted me with a loud "Hey Coats"! Man those guys just fell out.
I think Motown did him dirty, and so did Otis. After being the front man for most of the earlier songs, when David came aboard and did "My Girl", he was put to the back burner. He loved to sing. He became the George Harrison of the Temps. They would give him one song to do just to keep him quiet. Once he went solo, they didnt give him the support he needed.
This song is beautiful! Paul Williams was underrated. A lot of artists' careers are based on image but if record execs realized that Paul's music was his image as well as his whole being I think he would've gone pretty far. definitely one of the greatest baritone singers ever! RIP Paul Williams!
From what i read yes. Eddie either co-wrote "I feel like givin up" or "once you had a heart", i can't remember which but he is for sure doing the background vocals in this tune
They have "One By One: The Best Of Their Solo Years", a two-CD pack that has the solo songs of The Temptations after they left the group. This song and it's B-Side is on it.
i had trouble locating that! amazon said it was out of print and i cannot find it on any music service(napster, Rhapsody, itunes, etc.) motown needs to rerelease the album or put the songs on the music services for download.
never heard this song before, but i'm glad that i found it. PAUL WILLIAMS was one of the best male vocalists of all time black or white!!!. berry gordy needs to get off his ass, and his high horse, and re-release all of PAUL WILLIAMS songs so the world could hear what pure soul sounds like. yo' paul i know even if they don't. you were one of the best!!!. R.I.P.
you can get this song and paul's other son feel like giving up on CD called one by one and on it has solo songs recorded by David Eddie, Paul and Dennis
Paul, Sam Cooke, and Otis Redding my favorite singers you could here the heart in their music. I wish people my age appreciated and wanted to continue such beautiful music.
Wow! Paul sounds fantastic! I know that this song would have been a huge hit for both Paul and Motown. Maybe if Motown would have gotten behind this sweet sounding song, things would have turned out better for Mr. Williams. This post is another great tribute to my favorite and the greatest Temptation of all time!!!
Wow i love Paul's voice, this is a killer track, this would have been a big hit for him RIP Paul the greatest temp that ever lived, Heaven has a Temptations line up we'll never have, Paul, David, Melvin, Eddie and Eldridge
1973 or so. Otis Williams mentions in his book that this was on the radio for a short time after Paul died but it was taken off and stored in the Motown vault.
@fordsucks2 from what I know and have read, this was recorded(never released due too his suicide)about 7-8 months before Paul left us....... So perhaps Dec('72)-Mar('73)......
I don't understand why Motown did stupid crap like that. Paul could've been a hit but then again Motown put that down. They did the Tempts like that, Marvin Gaye, Jackson 5, Eddie Kendricks, they were all ripped off by Motown. Paul could've have been a major star like Eddie was!!
Wow....very nice track! I can't believe Motown didn't give this man the solo career he so rightly deserved. Such a damn shame......and I think this song could've been a hit! If only Motown had given him a chance he would've been successful as a solo artist. R.I.P. Mr. Williams. You will ALWAYS live on in our hearts and through your music.
its a great song it makes wonder what really hsppen 2 paul williams 4 real he was doing better doing his solo thing and they say he commited suicide i can't believe that 2 much talent in this man!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for adding this song to the tube, I love this one by Paul, I heard it for the first time about a year ago and I can't stop listening to it, I love his voice !!! Many Thanks
Paul Williams will be rightly remembered as one of the greatest vocalists in history. It's criminal that after he had to leave the temps due to illness, motown wouldn't offer him a solo deal, thanks fordsucks2 for posting this so that people will hear how great he was, keep up the good work.
When I close my eyes,it feels as if he's singing right here in front of me.I love you and R.I.P.
