The first 15 mins of Apocalypse Now were by far the most personal moments I have experienced in world cinema, him standing in front of that mirror fighting his demons, and then then the narration in his husky voice was great, for the haunting picture it painted of Col Kurtz before we actually meet him was what made that movie soo great. I personally think Martin Sheen is a great actor, who just did not get his share of great movies in his career compared to what some of his contemporaries got.
American beauty is narrated, Forest Gump,, Fight Club, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, The Man Who Wasn’t There, Magnolia, Sunset Blvd, A Clockwork Orange, The Usual Suspects, Casino, Sin City, Hanna and her sisters, Trainspotting, City of God, The Shawshank Redemption, Wonder Boys, Gangs of New York, American History X, The Big Lebowski, The Royal Tenenbaums, Amelie... hell, when I think about it, most of my favorite films are narrated.
Hey Dickhead (Sheen) why dont you get out there and fight the FED like you fought against the Vietnam troops! Great actor - but this is real life and if WE go down, hollywood will BURNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

There are so many ridiculous rules that claim to be the answer to what makes a good movie. God I loved Sheens narration in Apocalypse Now.

Narration is a useful key but doesn't mean it works or not just is something.
