  • I still have this entire cassette

  • @KraneAudra There's not one song on this album that I don't like. I also still have it on cassette but it sounds much better on CD....

  • Waddup B, I'm formally known as (Stone City), I see you are keeping Rick's legacy alive! Good 4 you bro. This is 1 of my favorite songs of all time, & 1 of my very favorite MJGs joints, but Musical Love is my shit!

  • what are they up to now? miss these girls!

  • I remember this song being on the flip side of the single "walk like a man" It seems like it should have been totally the opposite.

  • feel the fire n this song

  • I love this song The production on this was Dynamic!

  • How can I emphasize FEMALE R/B Soul groups from back in the day, and NOT play something from the late Rick James' treasure chest ?

  • this song is one of the best songs they have ever done...

  • not only sexy but very talented singers....bravo

  • This cover looks like CAMEO "Single Life" 1985

  • I was about 12 when this dropped. Talk about quietstorm status!

  • Their record label screwed up by not releasing this song as a single. This one would have gone to #1.

  • this is such a unbelievable record Rick James did his thing this is really music !!!!

  • Joanne McDuffie always could SANG! And can STILL blow. She tours every once in awhile. For a time there she was on tour with Shannon "Let The Music Play" . An old school tour. She has new music out and you can listen to it on her MySpace page. She also looks good too. The 1st and Original Mary Jane Girl. Met her a few times and she knows I have a MADD crush on her. Last time I saw her with the MJG girls was 95 in Dallas. Recently by herself. Real beautiful woman.

  • I like this song i just got put on to this im crazy how i miss a song like this in the 80s but i love it.

  • IVE LOVED THIS SONG SINCE I WAS 11 YEARS OLD

    WHAT A CLASSIC!!!!!!

  • @SexySassyMiss28 I was abt 11 wen it came out too! What a classic jam!

  • Rick was a GENIUS!

  • I live in dc, and this song was in heavy rotation, Its their best song to me. I still love it.

  • Vanity 6 was okay, but The Mary Jane Girls were way better. Thanks FireitupBedford for posting this great slow jam.

  • DAMMMMMN THEY CAN REALLY BLOW!!!....LOVE DA SONG!!!

  • GREAT Song that was slept on? Slick Rick's Girls, sexy group !!!!!!!!!!

  • Lovely lovely song

  • Stocktone 209

  • Awsome song

  • simplismente demaissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!! TOP !!!

  • Favorite song from them.

  • This is so sexy! Love it!

  • JoJo was amazing on this song.....girlfriend tore it up!!!! Classic 80s......

  • The sax a;pne would have made me dropped my panties was only 16

  • Thanks For The Post !

  • I can RIDE!! 2 this.

  • Wow - I recall seeing them perform this cut on Soul Train one saturday ...they were lip-synching but the jam was still hot....what memories...!

  • @u2focused They had the American Bandstand clip up of them singing this. Jojo was laying on her back in the chair with one leg in the air.

  • im aware they did 2 albums but also remade 'walk like a man" jokes on u

  • lov it lov it lov it ive been lookn 4 this song 4 years on here thank u so very very much.this song was slept on but #1 n my heart

  • I just recently bought the "in my house" best of the mary jane girls on CD. then I looked inside the booklet to read up on them. and it said "Shadow lover is about missing someone you can't have" and I was like wow this sounds really great. so I put the song on and wow I am hooked on it now! all the songs are great. I like Apollonia 6 to, but Mary janes rule... and just one more small comment. it's cool how they based this song on fantasy. kinda like def leppards photograph

  • That proves that you have the CD because that's just what it says in the booklet. How this never got much airplay is beon me. IMO the Mary Jane Girls never made a bad record. I can jam on any song. Any song they made could have been a hit had it been promoted correctly. Most albums have 1 or 2 songs and the rest are just fillers but not the Mary Jane Girls. I'm starting to see more and more people come across this who really love this track...

  • Oh for sure I always did want these girls on CD and now finally have em :D I hear ya there I have no clue how this could not have given much airplay. your so right even dig their stuff from the 90's :D I agree many people use fillers but back in the 80's even the fillers were pretty good :) it's great that this song is getting so many veiws ;)

and thank you so much for uploading it here xo xo

  • @ChryslerLaser1986

I could not have said it better!!!!! And WOW I can't believe someone else besides myself loved the song "Photograph" which is another one of my favorites. I want to also add that I am BLACK & LOVE listening to a variety of music. However music now is nothing like it was when I was growing up in the 70's & 80's!!! Anyway thanks for giving props to what is "REAL MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!"

  • ooowooo wowoo wowoo..To a Shadow...

  • I BEEN MAKIN LOVE IN MY BED AT NIGHT ....too a shadow...I BEEN MAKIN LOVE ALL ALONE AT NIGHT... to a shadow...

  • hey this is one of my favorites by these ladies the 80's was the shit

  • love it

  • FireitupBedford, your comment in your info box was on point. This song was sooo overlooked. I love this song. Thank you for posting!!!!

  • Your more than welcome. Never understood why this didn't get airplay...

  • In those days this song which might hint masturbation was considered to strong or vulgar for radio back then...My how things change.

  • @FireitupBedford Get this, the first time I heard this song was in a bar in Mexico, 1985...it was hit there. Great Old School Girl Funk

  • I was a young troop 24'ish the days of wine and roses and Germany where is Felecia now??? (cheers)

  • That be what you be....a lousy punkass troop. Lousy haircut, unshined shoes, smoking dope. Joe Shit the Rag Man would look like Cary Grant compared to you.

  • one of the greatest love tracks of the 80's!!(1985)

  • mrbelmont2000, hell no it's not gay to like this song!!! This is a nice jam....I bought the album when it first came out....nice tune, nice babes, 80's rule!!!!

  • You got that right m99. This is the joint and I second the 80's rule part...

  • @michaelwayne99 is it OK to be gay and still like this song?

  • is it gay of me to like this song???lol

    i hope not

  • no...It's ok

  • haha ok thanx!

  • Hell No, this is the SONG for real...My dad has all they albums...I grew up listening to them girls....magnificent

  • haha ok thanx:)

  • What would make you say that? Why would it make you gay? This is great baby making music...

  • @FireitupBedford gay people might also enjoy 'making love' to this amazing record

  • haha omg i was just listening to one of his samples, its so true though

  • I'm surprised that DAMN Kanye West didn't try to sample this...

  • Back in the House Party days! Again I say blue lights, basements, kissing and no fighting! (No SEX) Good old Necking..15 was a good age for me!

  • I know just what you're talkin' bout the 80's were good years!!!

  • I feel ya on dat MrGooie, thats exactly what I'm doing now. Thats definetly an ole school jam. Love it.

  • Oh geez i was bout 9-10yrs when this came out rememberin my tia (aunt) always jammin MJG's. jus memories of pretending i was them, Hahaha!!!

  • Yes Couples Skate! I remember too!

  • takes me back to roller skatin and first loves, this song is AGELESS

  • BACK IN THE DAYS IN DETROIT!

  • wHAT THE f**k SHE'S TALKING ABOUT MASTURBATION.......still a good song though LOL!

  • never really thought of it like this before

  • thanks for the old school sometimes people need to be taught a lesson

  • I used to love this song but had NO IDEA it was the Mary Jane girls singing it Thanx for posting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I Iwas wondering if you (or anyone else) could help me on a song title. NO ONE i ask remembers this song but the words went like this: " Sat down to write you a letter thought I would write it today suddenly it appeared to me That i dont even know what to say I dont know where to start i dont know how to begin and i don't even brag anymore at night 'cause i dont think that anyone hears all that is left when i sleep at night are my tears so many tears". thanx for your help!!!
  • Regina Belle. So Many Tears. saw her perform this in concert. amaazing !!

  • i loved this song so much!! i used to cry to this song. this is what it feels like when you are in love and that love is not there.the words are so strong and on the mark.the longing and longing. damn i started crying again!!there are very few songs that make the hair on the back of your neck stand up,go down your spine and put a fire in your heart. i miss the mary jane girls. i even had the pin that said it all-I LOVE MARY JANE!

  • Its sad to say that as each days passes, good music is becoming more and more of a fond memory.

  • I agree with you BF6ct. I thought I was the only one who realized this.

  • I am just stunned by the lyrics to this song. She makes masturbation sound hauntingly ALRIGHT...

  • Now this was the Jammm...these was my girlz back in the day! Only the grown folks can feel this right here!

  • Something Motown (Gordy) records should've done rather than release a compilation, to have instead just released both of their albums on a single CD or a double CD and included any extra tracks the were never released before. On a different note weren't there any songs that Jojo did NOT sing lead on and which ones were they?

  • I'll try and find out for ya. One of them was the song Jealousy from the 1st album...

  • The other girls didn't sing or very little. JoJo sang with session singers the Water Sisters on all the MJG projects. The band sang for them on tour. These are the facts.

  • Sounds like they were the Pussycat dolls of the 80's lol!

  • the Pussycat Dolls of the 80s? Not even close.

  • Well only one of them sang just like the pussycat dolls. I can't stand the PCDs IMO.

  • @mrlopez2681 Yep. All the Mary Jane Girls had talent.

  • where did all the mary jane girls videos go that were on here a few months ago like; you are my heaven; etc. I sure would like too see them on again! :( I hope this one stays on!

  • For some stupid reason UMG has been taking down alot of this great music...

  • It's sad. First Prince, then WMG, and now UMG. Pretty soon, Youtube will be unlistenable. I miss the 2006-2008 Youtube already.

  • I can't get enough of it! The music alone, it's the way the beginning starts then the actual song starts. This joint is so smooth.

  • I can't stop listening to it. I wish I had my aunts album. She used to play it all the time. This is one of those songs that you listen to at night when it raining.

  • They just released a new Rick James DVD today. Mine is on it's way...One place that is carrying it is Best Buy...

  • This song is untouchable. Rick was immersed in the music he wrote and produced for his clientele. This is a very evocative song. And which ever of the four (hich it probably the lead with the beads) blares out the finale makes the perfect delivery. It's an anthem for the lonely.

  • Rick's new DVD came out today...

  • Why is everybody so obessesed about a remake of this classic song. That's what the hell is wrong with the younger generation, always trying to copy classics instead of being original like the music of my generation (40+).

  • I couldn't have said it better. You got that right...

  • THIS ONE OF THOSE "DETROIT" SONGS LATE AT NIGHT, ON THE WAY HOME FROM PARTYING!

iT IS STILL ALL RIGHT.hEY EAST-SIDE ARE YOU OUT THERE?

    PEACE

  • I LOVE this song always have. It's so uptown New York style. AND I love the interlude in the beginning before the song starts.

  • Give all that credit to the sax man himself Danny LeMelle...Oh by the way just so you know Danny does come on here every now and then and reads this stuff...

  • WOW well that's interesting. But I wonder WHY didn't they just use the Water Sisters an Jojo as a group an call them the MJG an cut out all the madness! I mean were they not attractive or something lol

  • Can't answer that one...lol

  • Man. Ridin' out with my Homegirls. Summer in the City. Nothin' like 4-part harmony while cruising in the "D". Hangin' all day, well until late night on Belle Isle. Once again, the Electrifyin' MOJO/ The M.F.A. set the tone many a night. WHERE IS MY COUSIN KIM...? She used to BLOW the SHENGALEANGEZZ outta Jo-Jo's part like a MOFO. Motown style. The car'd be SURROUNDED by "Detroit Finest!" (Not cops)

Peace to all who remember and know just how cool Detroit can be when the Elements are right.

  • Yo this jawn is one of the best slow songs ever! Rick (R.I.P) thanks for this one.

  • I'm not gonna front this album cover is SEXY! I like that girl Corvette I think she replaced Candi. DAMN Corvette was fine.

  • I think corvette replaced cheri if I am not mistaken.

  • Yeah she did. Another person on here told me that Cheri wanted to be the lead singer and her mother felt that the group should be centered around her. lol I guess after that they gave her the boot! AND they found somebody way hotter.

  • @MrSexxxy20 Cheri went & auditioned for Shalamar after Jodi Watley left without telling Rick, & she was still under contract with Rick & Motown. Rick said, when she returned to rehersal after not making the new Shalamar line up, he told her to get the fuck out! That is why Cheri was not in the MJGs anymore!

  • cheri not candie ;)

  • Can someone tell me if Maxi has always been the same person? Because the one one the All NIght Long album looks alot different from the real blonde one?

  • Yep the one in the same. It's her on both albums...

  • I love this song!! I agree with you on Keyshia Cole doing a remake! SHe has a wonderful voice but to out do JO JO -- ???

  • Wrong person. I never said Keyshia Coles should do this. No one can do it like Jo Jo...

  • NO I don't think that Cole would do this song any justice at all. It has way to many HIGH notes an we all know what she sounds like hitting those. Shall I mention that terrible song "Love" and that ear piercing high notes during the cores lol. The only person that I can picture doing a really good remake of this is Chante' Moore.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!! The instrumental is awesome. If there is a video 4 this song please post. Thank u YouTube family.

  • Far as I know there wasn't a video on this song (Real sad) Someone did have them up here singing on American Bandstand unles it's been taken down...

  • Thanks. I will check.

  • This is my favorite MJG song of all!

  • wow...the jazz intro is PURE 80's, i don't care what NO one says...this was a good era

  • Got that right.

  • I would love for Keshia Cole to remake this song.

  • You know something just last week, I imagined Keshia Cole singing this and it's funny you said that. I agree 100 percent. I remember when I was a kid watching them sing this song on American Bandstand, Jojo was laying in the chairs singing laying down.

  • I think we are on to something!

  • wow! I wish someone had that video on here...I would've loved to see her live doing this song...good times

  • wish the orig group was still together

  • Don't give up to fast they are working on that as we speak...

  • Hope you understand that I really can't get into it at this time but I'll say this don't give up the faith just yet...

  • Give up hope! If you really want the original Mary Jane Girls

then that's JoJo and the Water Sisters(session singers) on all the projects. The others couldn't sing or very little. The band sang for them on tour with JoJo. This was to be JoJo's solo project but Rick lied and told Motown this was a group. He had to get who he could. JoJo still tours with her back-up singers/dancers naturally this is a great show.

If you hear about her performing in the area go. The others

    are eye candy gone bad

  • did jojo ever sing with val young?

  • As far as I know they did some backup work for Rick when he was our on tour sometimes...
