Great video, and it is wonderful to see how far we have come. Once upon a time the earth was the center of the universe. Once upon a time the world was flat. With exploration comes more questions than answers. When you look at models of us, the Earth and the other planets that circle around the sun, why do we only see it as moving along a single plane? We are shown that it moves in one way and one way only. --part 1

Like spinning a chair around it never does anything else except turn in that one direction... Why is it that when we look at atoms the electrons themselves, they move in an orbital pattern that does not stay on one plane but rather it moves in the same direction but continuously shifting the plane and circles all around. When you take a closer look at the rings of Saturn we have discovered that there are elevations that can be compare to the mountain ranges of any planet. --part 2
When you look at systems that connect to another why do they move in the same manner as electrons of an atom? Does the solar system really move on one single path? One single plane? When the largest and smallest things that we can see and study move one way why does our system differ? Or does it? --part 3
@AndromedasWake you are such a bad ass. I like that I still have the rest of your channel to go and this series to see. I hope you feel better and can start on this series soon. The information presented here will certainly be an asset to the new series I am working on.
try downloading different documentaries about space, the documentary "cosmos" by carl sagan is VERY good, although its from the 80s, but that does not matter at all.
try listening to the pokemon theme song. it'll get the previous song outta your head but i'm afraid you'll have to deal with the greater consequences of having the theme song in your head.
When you upload the documentary, would you be so kind as to upload the original video file for us to mirror in our channels? I'd love to spread the love and knowledge.
A little late, but we forgive you, I am really looking forward to this.
In fact, I really think YouTube needs more movies like this; those that have the theme that science is awe-inspiring and infinitely beautiful, with good music and amazing imagery from the real world of scientific research.
Have you thought about integrating some of these episodes into the interactive tour feature of MS Worldwide Telescope? I think that'd be a good way to get the word out.
I am really excited for this! What you have here so far looks amazing, but getting "amazing" from our universe must be the easy part. I wish you luck and great success.
I can't wait for this to come out! Beautiful trailer, beautiful score. I wish the demo had the quote in it by Feynman, I thought it went perfectly with the song. Well done and thank you for all that you've done for us.
Brilliant! Somehow in my travels I missed this absolutely phenomenal, intriguing trailer. Many of my colleagues are wondering when the full length version is scheduled to be published in your YouTube Web space. The trailer states "Winter 2008". This is amazing. We can't wait to view the whole documentary. Kudos!:)
Fantastic- faved and will share- thanks Josef for turning me onto this- its humbling to think that a person is not as measurable as a sub atomic particle on The Universal scale, yet many feel so important- yes, absolutely, learn and discover and honor all creation- we are made of "star stuff" afterall....
Now I wander, is it also going to contain the YouTube option of subtitles?
Pretty much and perhaps this is for me personally, but heck. Sometimes when I misheard something I tend to listen again, and again until I managed to actually find out what they are saying.
However, if it is subbed, I just pause the video and reread it again. So I'm actually hoping somebody will subtitle this.
You seem unaware of what scientists and experiments actually aspire to accomplish.
Understanding the processes by which the universe formed and operates, and then using that understanding to implement a better interaction with the world. Like spraying paint on an invisible sculpture, so you can see the "shape" better.
It is a good metaphor if you believe the universe is analogous with a statue (that somebody made). For atheists not such a good definition, but it does make sense. Science is trying to understand everything. To be cognitive about existence, or conScience of it anyway.
It would appear that I am too hungover to make sense at this point. The word I was going for was conscious, scious and science also share some roots though.
Of course I don't believe the universe is analogous with a created object. I was using an artistic metaphor simply because the universe is beautiful and breathtaking, and more so the more of it is revealed. I'm not some religious fuckhead, I'm an atheist. A cursory glance at my channel would have revealed that.
My bad, I am not in the habit of cursory glances at random peoples channels. I was also not trying to be condescending in anyway. I think religious people deserve as much a right to their beliefs as any of the rest of us, as wrong as they are.
Beliefs are fine. If religious people stuck their beliefs inside their head, no problem. But so many of them don't. They push them on the world, and all kinds of bad shit happens. Religious beliefs are protected to an extent that secular beliefs are not, divorced from rational enquiry and critique. Everything should be open to question. My worldview is open to question, because I can defend it rationally, but most religious people quash dissent. It's built in.
It's a solar flare. Hi energy ions travel back up the magnetic field lines when it recoils from the shock of the flare to cause the nothern and southern lights. Happens on other planets too. ;]
Wonderful! i'm posting this on my blog, too. If you do an Earth episode(s), if you have any questions, ask me! i like to think i know a thing or two about earth history.
You should probably avoid pedantry. Look at his profile, look at where he lives, and then work out when winter will befall London. You now have an accurate estimate for WTTU.
I'm just pointing it out because there are many ways to express a date, so you might as well use one that is more 'correct.' I'm not trying to be pedantic just trying to raise consciousness a bit.
I am REALLY looking forward to this. The images are beautiful, the series sounds awesome, and you're a fantastic musician, AW. (I'd buy your album if you made one.) I'm going to spread it round as much as I can. Thank you so much for doing this. I hope one day I'll have the chance to do something similar. Until then I'll stand in awe of you and eagerly look forward to Welcome to the Universe. And you HAVE to make the soundtrack available for download when the series is done. ;) Best of luck!
Oooh... looks very nice. Not just will this give us a great insight into the universe, but I feel as though this can perhaps push YouTube in the direction it should be headed into.
Musical tastes vary, I may not listen to it on its own, but that doesn't make it bad.
I think it's perfect for background music in astronomy vids, fills in the sensory gaps while you're not listening to any dialog. The tone is just "right" to me.
When I was a christian, I thought the universe was amazing. Now that I am agnostic, the universe is much more so. Thank you for all of the great work you do.
Thank 4 creating such a beautiful series.

Wow, what an invigorating prelude. This series is going to be a smash success.
And you MUST give us a link to the soundtrack as you develop it. I was absolutely blown away.

Musical tastes vary, I may not listen to it on its own, but that doesn't make it bad.
I think it's perfect for background music in astronomy vids, fills in the sensory gaps while you're not listening to any dialog. The tone is just "right" to me.

You're right, that was a little rude. Of course some people might like it and I shouldn't call it crappy

Universe is amazing. And knowing all the little details of it makes it even more amazing.
Same goes for earth.

When I was a christian, I thought the universe was amazing. Now that I am agnostic, the universe is much more so. Thank you for all of the great work you do.
