Humor is such a great communicator across all humanity
- and it is great for everyone to see themselves in this way, often way out of context with their daily existence and yet the images are still completely accessible
Song? Does anyone know anything about the song played in this video? Yes, Massive Attack have the credit for it, but I've looked all over the internet and cannot find it!
We know that people behave better - often much better - when there is someone watching them. Even a pair of cartoon eyes has the ability to elicit greater compliance with laws and societal expectations. I wonder what these realistic images of real people in the community will do over time to these places. Perhaps changing the world really can be this simple.
Very cool concept. While most of the photos are not that artistically amazing the concept and statement they make is none the less fantastic. Well done.
Wow JR you are absolutely wonderful. I was totally taken away with what you do! Bravo Grand, tu es un miracle. One thing I kept on wandering, how could you afford to do all this?
If ever you come to Senegal, my home and the walls in my neighborhood Yoff Layens, Dakar - would gain to have you and show their beauty and their tough life too. My guest in my GuestHouse.
If anyone seen the livestream of Ted yesterday... and JR new project (InsideOutProject), I bet you feel proud to see that still exists human beings in the world.
i really have no words...this is amazing absolutely perfect!!!!! this is a f**g message to the world a message to everyone of us stucked in our everyday life!!"the real heroes are right there in the street everywhere around you" and i will also say inside you!!! the power of man is so so great but sometimes we forget it and prefer to stay in the dark!! but see...if someone manages to get to the light in an instant moment he draws many more around him....think about it.....
@ compalena.........What is the REAL revolution... sounds pretty boring to me. Most revolutionary movements had at least during their inception elements of of hope and imagination...... Agitprop and the costructivistm are examples!.
Also those faces in the Favellas in Rio are very revolutionary me thinks!!
Hey @Sprinterdrift and @Buzzardz - any luck on identifying the music? I've been ploughing through Massive Attack tunes on Spotify but can't find this anywhere... is it a remix? It's bloody lovely.
I think this is an amazing idea which challenges stereotypes, and uses caricatures for humor. This may create glimpses of a new reality of actually accepting others. I hope so. Thanks!
I think it's too bad that the E in TED is looked down upon by the T and D crowd (and has since the beginning of TED.) This is art that actually means something, I for one am glad that JR won, he deserves it 100%.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
are you kidding me?! this is basically the cheesisest type of art I can imagine.
But I guess it works unintentionally as the satirical epitome of all the irrelevant, naive, pretentious (so-so-French) "social" Banlieue art which somehow keeps getting made.
Please TED, hire a real curator and stop embarrassing yourself with your cluelessness about contemporary art.
@Sprinterdrift I thought it was Arovane, but the music credits say Massive Attack which surprised me. I guess I haven't heard any of their stuff since Mezzanine.
@AaronfromQueens -- hahaha - me neither, but there are a few good tracx on their latest album (Massive Attack - not sure of the title... 2010 release, I think)
Lets be honest Jamie Oliver set the bar higher last year by highlighting a real problem and then actively fighting it and was a deserving winner "JR" from what I can see is looking at conflicts I guess and then photographing the people on either side but just throwing a twist on it all..hardly revolutionary or productive... Make a time-machine JR and stop the British palestine mandate better yet go back in time JR and kill off Hitler before he came to power.. then I guess you deserve the award.
@mizrah159 Given your high standards, this means that Jamie Oliver would have to also go back in time and disrupt the industrial revolution, the power of agribusiness, the destruction of prime farmland, environmental racism, US-style poverty, genetic engineering, etc. in order to have a legitimate social change mandate and project. JO and JR both deserve the award! One uses art, the other uses food. The real revolution is happening in social change movements and will not likely be televised.
