WOW! This Song Is So BEAUTIFUL! Without Doubt A Timless 60's Classic And Dusty's First Solo Single Too And What A Cracker It Is, It Makes Me Kinda Sad To Watch Her Sing This With So Much Energy & Vigor And To Think She Left This World Way Too Soon At The Age Of Only 59 But She Will Live Forever In Our Hearts GOD BLESS! You Sweety xx
That was the conservative style back in the day - that's what the 60s Revolution was all about - not bowing to standards, but trying to go out on a creative limb. It's a shame that many performers went the sloppy or weird route. Do we really want a band to be all in uniforms again?
The sound of her voice has an almost healing quality. Lifts my spirit just looking and listening to her! I pity any kid who wasn't a teenager in the Sixties. Best of times.
Actually, she would have a career in any event; clothes, make-up, fireworks, wild animals whatever, here talent would "out". Same with Pet Clark, Patsy Cline and Astrud Gilberto to name a few more. Talent is talent, no matter how it gets packaged, these fine singers would have gotten noticed!
If Dusty Springfield was starting her music career today, no one would take her seriously unless she took her clothes off and paraded around in underwear. It's a shame what music has become in that respect.
@richardlee1970 then we should meet, because I am that type, and I can't seem to find a single man state-wide, perhaps, East-Coast of the U.S.-wide, that feels that way anymore. It's sad, really. Please continue to be an old fashioned gentleman. There seriously aren't enough left in the world. :)
@richardlee1970 Not really, its nice to see a woman who can dress sexy and classy, like our Dusty here, without looking like a broken down crack whore prostitute.
I am with you my friend! i am a woman, & happen to be 55. The girls these days leave nothing to the imagination! That's half the fun! I will leave you this pearl of wisdom, "If you want to be treated like a LADY, act like one!"
I ran across a CD of her best songs, my son and always a room full of friends on the weekends, My teenagers played it drove around town having fun just like we did 40 years ago. great voice and so many good songs - I was surprised his friends really liked it-that was nice to know. Have you noticed, flat records are coming back, and the prices are high.
Great song, thanks for posting. It's nice to hear music from a time when the #1 requirement to be a famous female pop singer was to be a great singer. Pat Benatar was/is a great singer. She was followed by Madonna who I guess we can blame for f**king up the great singer requirement.
Dusty was class 100% I met her once at a concert and she was a true and proper lady! I told her she was greatness and she gave me a hug. And she smelled good too!! She is missed but we have her wonderful music!
Great singer from a wonderful era! Clean, decent easy listening! Now that's what I call music! Too good to be forgotten! Though it's not my decade I truly appreciate these classics. They don't make these oldies but goodies nowadays....
The first time I heard this was somewhere around 1963. I was maybe 9 years old and have always loved her voice. I never saw who she was until maybe 10 years ago. Her voice was always in the background somewhere while I grew up, like a lot of the music in the '60s. I had always thought she was a sexy Black lady and when I learned she was white I was floored. I knew nothing about her except her voice!
@bobbollu - Actually, Dusty is lip-synching to a studio production audio tape on a British TV telecast. It’s easily discernable b/c @ 1:23 there is a unexpected glitch on the audio tape causing Dusty to speed up her lip-synching to cover for the flaw; this is why she visibly strains forward. Upon finishing the verse @ 1:27, she slaps her hands together as her face is suddenly gripped w/ anger at the production technician off stage while she turns away into the instrumental & her short trot.
@IAPETUSGIANTS very good pick up on the lip synching. I pride myself on being able to tell. What threw me off was that when artists lip-synch, they usually do so to the ORIGINAL record not an alternate recording.
So again good work on that and believe me it wasn't easily discernible by most people, its that you have
@bobbollu - Lol - thanks... don't get me wrong, I L!O!V!E! Dusty... it's just I was surprised and amused as you were when I figured out she was lip-synching for this live TV telecast, perhaps to make sure the gig went without a hitch, or perhaps an orchestra was not available for the show... the pop stars back in the 60s often did this for smaller budget shows were Top 40s Hits were played, especially the teen dance shows like American Bandstand, Shindig, Hullabaloo, etc. and the British shows.
@IAPETUSGIANTS Hello again, I enjoy making DVD'S from live performances of various groups or singers
mostly from the sixties. My rule is I don't record it if it is not live. So Dusty got by my "censors". Still a good performance and different than the original record so I will keep it. Are you british or American?
@bobbollu - Hi... That makes sense to me. I grew up on this type of music in the 60s. Today's popular music is so devoid of melody & rythym to the point that none of it is memorable & none of it has a catchy tune that ruminates in your head; and certainly people are not walking around humming any of it, like in former decades. It's a shame. I live in So Cal in the U.S. & I'm writing and creating a 60s musical with 60s Pop-type songs which is why I stumbled onto this video on YouTube.
@IAPETUSGIANTS hi again very cool about the musical, I wish you success with it. My brother lives in Sandiego
will be happy to share my thoughts and get your thoughts on this music which I fell is the strongest decade for music possible ever. Considering groups like the Supremes, Beatles, Stones, Beach Boys Four Tops,
later the Doors , Cream all got there start in the 60's
There's a great NEW book on Dusty: 'The Invention of Dusty Springfield - Scenes From a BritPop Icon'. It's a fun read and a tribute to 'our' Dusty. Available on Amazon.com.
Still her best song! This came out when I first started high school. I ran out to buy it, and wore it out on the turntable. The live version presented here, is almost as good as the original recording! I've already played it a half dozen times. What show is it from? Ed Sullivan?
For years and years I thought this was a Goffin-King composition. It was only a few yeas ago I found out it wasn't. But it certainly has that "feel". Maybe it was the times - the early 60's.
@cypruskev - Isn't it nice and refreshing to see a female vocalist respect herself by not having all her body parts hanging out like a French whore for the entire world to see, and instead, put all the emphasis on her SINGING VOICE and musical talent because she is something called a "SINGER", instead of camouflaging the LACK of talent with a circus act of distracting and unrelated smoke and mirrors, like the talentless female sluttish "singers" (cough) do today.
Amen to that. Dusty could exude sex but style and grace. Few, if any, can pull it off so well. Her moves, her facial expressions, she was the entire package. That hot siren Pia Toscano would do herself a major favor by watching Dusty in action on the grand stage.
@MrBuckley123 no doubt, pure class. how amazing it is, to me this super simple no BS set/lighting , a beatuiful talented woman with an amazing voice compared to todays technology and glitter
OK people this might seem a little strange and I'm not stoned / drunk..nothing like that, but on my computer screen Dusty seems like the perfect little ballerina doing a live mike version of what I think is her best song...What can I say but I'm in love. :) Almost like a TV version of Rod Sterling's Twilight Zone ...RIP Dusty you made my day.
Intoxicating and who knows where to start; the voice, the hair, her dress, the way she moves in that dress, her knowing smile, that great song. And all her own. This is perfection. Thanks for posting.
I moved to Urmston from Philly in 1966 at age 15. Before long I fancied a young bird, the younger sister of an older mate, who bore more than a passing resemblance to Dusty, right down to the flipped blond hair and the black eyeshadow. I didn't half fancy her, but being so young, shy, inexperienced, and stupid, I was intimidated by her beauty and she just slipped away. Oh, Lynne Darbyshire... Where are you now? The talk of Dusty's secret sexuality only made her more attractive to me somehow!
dusty is so beautiful, cute, adorable.her eyes look like she's really singing this to somebody special.i love the way her movements are so playful and fun it makes a guy just wanna run up and squeeze her!!
When is my secret love going to know that this song is dedicated to her? We have only known each other for 22 years. Hope we can finally click together in the next couple months:)!
I remember so well when this was first heard in the later summer of ' 63,it blew my mind ,such an exciting debut record after Dusty left The Springfields.I never , ever tire of hearing it, a masterpiece, the original & best. The incomparable Dusty !.
this reminds me of the movie stepfords wives..well her look anyway. Awesome song! better than any of the crap out these days.

When is my secret love going to know that this song is dedicated to her? We have only known each other for 22 years. Hope we can finally click together in the next couple months:)!

Great song as first record that I ever bought. Dusty was just brilliant, the best solo female singer of 60s without doubt. May she rest in peace.
