I have this with Casadesus and the Cleveland Orchestra and it is simply outstanding . Perfection !!! I also have it with Andre Previn and the Columbia Orchestra with none other than the genius George Szell conducting and it is superb and mind boggling .
Amazing! This is the best I have heard! In fact I cannot listen to any other variation.... I got a recording of this concert played Rudolf Serkin.... I threw it out the car window! The Serkin version the timing was too slow, & there were extra flourishes in the orchestra music that should not have been there. I gave it 3 good listens & couldn't take it anymore! THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!!
However many I adore, when it comes to picking the greatest piano concerto or symphony it is always self-evident that it has to be either Mozart or Beethoven. Now my choice would be this. The first movement is just completely out of this world, I'm close to tearing up when I hear this. Well, it's the same with Beethoven's piano concerto no. 4 I guess.
@DonFarshido I feel exactly the same. I transcend to the heavens when I hear this and have wept many times friend. Amazing that the only interval in a minor that sounds brighter than its major is the minor 6th, wow, he knew this!
mozart - what a genius. i remeber listening to this piano concerto as a child on a tape my dad had and being totally enthralled by it. i dont know who the soloist was but i must thank my friend (thanks smiley) for informing me of this magnificent pianist
Most likely the best version with Clara Haskil; amazing phrasing with instinctive deep thinking musical sense. A unique dynamic and impulse without NOT forgetting to breath with music. Thank you for posting this video.
This joins Rosina Lhevinne and Robert Casadesus as the three best Mozart 21s ever recorded; IMO, Lipatti brings a degree more shaping and profound musicality to it than even they, but I wouldn't want to be without any of them.
I´ve listened to it at least one hundred times in the last week and I never get tired of it. It seems so beautiful, optimistic and even funny to me...
