OMG !!! How Camp is this scene. There is good little Mormon boy, Joe...at a "Gay Beat" at 4am ringing his Mother back in Salt Lake City to tell her what she had always figured....that her son likes boys...mind you only to watch.
Having had the pleasure of recently playing Louis in a production of 'Angels', I feel a little sad the cut the speech after the 'antacid mustache'. I loved that line. I also would always get a chill every night hearing Joe (our fine actor Dustin James) say that line.
No, you cannot always live with the consequences.....once you have bridge your personal moral and ethical code, you have trespassed your sacred grounds....
@yamafi never heard of this. mormons are supposedly not allowed to drink caffeine? serious? coz that's new and funny. is it "better" or "worse" than being gay or getting drunk? serious question coz maybe he should have confessed the can of diet coke with his hotdog lunch break to his mom. that might have been the last straw that made her flip out totally. her drunk, gay and diet coke drinking son! Blowjobs, Barcadi and Coca Cola!
No, not all american mothers are like this lol, it just happens to make really good drama. There are certain themes that continually reoccur throughout literature-including theatre. She just happens to be apart of that. Drama, my friend, always relates back to the home.
I've seen this kind of mothers a lot in flms and series. Is this the way most mothers are to their children in the U.S.? I mean, what cultural background do these people belong to? A distant father and a cold mother who would say those things. Is it their protestantism? Is it a specific christian denomination? This is a sincere question.
My mother is dead. She never really came to terms with the fact that I was bi and ts. I told her about both when I was 15. She died last year and I'll be 30 this year. That's near half of my life she never understood.
My comment was directed to the simple fact that if there are men that are utterly unattractive for me, no matter how pretty they are, are those who give a shit what their mother thinks, and if they are in trouble first thing they do is call their parents, like some lost children. Thats why his behaviour is/was disappointing. Ive never found attractive, men who depended on their families. And there are so many.
Well the only reason I cared what my mother thought was because what hurt her affected me emotionally. I certainly didn't think she could solve my problems for me.
In the 1950's MCarthy & his helper Roy Cohn were running around blacklisting commies they called "Pinkos".Seems that this film is full of a different kind of pink caracter .
I swear if it was up to me,I would change the name of the Academy Awards from the Oscar's to the Meryl's,she is the ultimate, the greatest, she' exceptional!!!
@sleekcartim I know! And until today I'd never heard of it! I found out when googling "Mary Louise Parker" cause I'd loved her work on weeds and fried green tomatoes.

In the Mormon faith, many parents are like this. They only do what the church leaders tell them to.

The scene on the park bench is crushingly romantic. Joe has such refined bone structure that I can't help but stare.

Well he was just a figurehead. He could have six nipples and a set of tenticles and it'd have no effect on policy.
