  • we use this video in our handling tools/pressure safety modules

  • wow. what a "cool" accident. anyone who wants to be a worker at oil rig? LOL

  • Fuck that was crazy!rig 101 damn that shit was crazy

  • Stupid driller. On my rig he would be gone instantly.

  • iv been around a few of pattersons rigs and they are always having accidents

  • @LoneWolf113488 Patterson is TERRIBLE. SO unsafe

  • @LoneWolf113488 Patterson is TERRIBLE. SO unsafe

  • He didn't die I saw the original and if u look close at the end the guy crawls between the other two guys

  • Yes bnb3times it is just my opinion. But why is it after the driller pops the joint and the water blows out he is scrambling to turn the pump controls off???

  • Damn! He shouldve turned the pumps off.

  • Why is this "flagged"?

  • he def died...

  • Did he dead?

  • hope the driller lost his job on that one. dumb ass didn't shut the pumps down.

  • @dirtysalty nope they made him the toolpusher,His name was bruce poplous,It was on patterson171 in parachute, colorado.

  • That is not a blow out, the drilling forgot to turn pumps off! u see him turn them off afterwards!

  • Good thing ruffies head wasnt over the can, small lapse of judgement can lead to serious outcomes. Good thing he crawled away.

  • as a roughy....i NEVER touched the slips until the pump was turned off or idled down...NEVER! Is just a good rule of thumb....for the floor. There was more than one guy on the floor...i can count 5....and NO-ONE noticed the pump still strokin at 1.5m3/min? ... WOW. I am not stickin up for the driller here....but someone should have noticed....is nice to have someone else thinkin/watchin as well, some days are hell on the brake handle...workin' as a team right? Or not?

  • smack that drillers head in

  • dumb ass left the pump on

  • Holy Shit. Im stayin on a damn workoverrig. Fuck that shit man.

  • wow drillers put life on the line when they go to work. hope the pay is worth it.

  • El operador no apago la bomba de lodo..!! pequeño detalle.

  • omg... please tell me the guy had no more than a concussion... must have been a hell of a learning experience for all of them.. I pray for our roughnecks safety every day...

  • OMG did he survive..?

  • I saw this happen once when I worked in the oilfield, the driller forgot to shut down the mudpump, after the chewing out from the other hands and the fight that ensued. He did not forget again.

  • i guess not coz the derrickman still manage to crawl away down to the driller..dumbass driller forgot to turn off the pump..

  • ...yeah, the pump was still on, the driller goes straight for the pump control as soon as he sees what's happening. If that was the poosher next to the driller he's to blame just as much for not taking care of the rig floor and maybe distracting the driller. Did the roughneck really lose his life?

  • dumbass forgot to turn off the pump. wut a fuckin idiot i would be whoopin some fuckn ass.

  • Seeing as how the dude that severed the line and released the pressure was killed, lets not call this funny please...

  • Its not a blowout, the driller didn't shut down the pumps when he has tripping out.

  • @trentclarkaust get your facts straight, thats just your opinion!

  • well how can it be a blow out if the guy was doing something (i think adding another pipe) so it wasn't drilling... i think there was massive pressure in the pipe and when he opened it it all came out

  • Comment removed

  • that must have been painfull

  • Comment removed

  • That was funny as hell.... But not a blow out!!!!

  • funny?

  • When I was a worm on a landrig, before I went off-shore, the same thing happened to me. When it was all over and we all cleaned the crap out of our pants, we got to see the video, and we laughed about it. To be honest they we're laughing at me because of my reaction. Now that I am experianced, I look back and as long as no-one was hurt I have to laugh. This was a rookie mistake and could have been avoided. Saftey first Always!

  • oh. well i was about sure this was lethal. it looked lethal i mean the man was thrown about like a puppet. relieving though that it was not. thank god you werent hurt either

  • not a blow out... driller was fucking high lmao

  • that aint a blowout. and whats up with the caption??

(this is why im not a driller?)

  • hahah dziada pompy nie wyłączył ;D;d heheheh

  • Every driller has left the pumps on before. I've never done it with hot mud before, just fresh water while drilling surface. Its a good way to make the co man get off your rig floor lol!!

  • WORM DRILLER!!! or he is high

  • this is not a blow out. its called wet pipe

  • ITS CALLED LIVING YOUR PUMPS ON

  • lol everything is drillers error, but yeah i think this one is definatly drillers error, turn ya fuckin pumps off

  • yep everything is drillers problem funny thing is they only get around 200$ a pay check more than the derickman

  • where was this?

  • OMFG.... It is damn scary man. Is that guy still alive or he's RIPped???

  • ha ya hes alive- didn't get hurt this was on a patterson rig drilling for natural gas in Parachute,CO

  • jesus christ that fella alright or wa by

  • dumb ass driller

  • human error is the major cause of blowouts watch for kick signs.the driller should shut the pump off when the kellys half out hes a fucking idiot-human error and this is no kick just pump pressure

  • Called turn off the pumps............

  • Its a kelly can, and thats not a blow out...thats a driller looking for a chain spot!!!

  • what the hell u stupid ass driller did u forget to shut the pump off

  • It's the driller's fault. The driller should be aware at anytime when drilling.

  • they did the same thing on purpose when mike rowe roughnecked on dirty jobs......im curious...was that drilling mud or were they drilling with air/mist...i know they do that alot in rifle.

  • Better you than me

  • DAMN dude i think that guy died

  • We call it a mud can

  • fuck you srt10, your probly a faggy lil dogfucker.

  • see waht happens when you fuckin derrick hands are buggin the driller while makin a connection...fuck off same goes for you scab service hands....fuckin truckers

  • goof.

  • Are you smarter than a fifth graderuh, no that is why I am a driller. Learn to spell dumb ass, you sound like a worm.

  • Oh...uhh, that wasnt actualy supposed to happen right? =\

  • I am not familiar with drilling operations. Could someone knowledgeable please explain what the man was attaching to the shaft and what caused the blowout?

  • The roughneck was making connection and the driller forgot to turn the pumps off. Connection is when 2 stands are put together to drill deeper.

  • So it was the fault of the guy standing at the control panel? Damn, I guess his ass is in hot water. I hope that Roughneck survived okay.

  • He did. This happened in rifle colorado this year. I hope that floorhand kicked his fuckin ass!

  • nope your wrong it was in parachute co last year in 07 I had a copy of that on a dvd rom paterson 171 the drillers name is bruce poplous he,s the pusher now i worked on that rig with gary zimmerman from alaska

  • he is blew his hardhat away onto the ground 120ft away

  • Man that would have hurt. I don't reckon it killed him but fuck he would be sore

  • that guy is good and dead, good bless im

  • Poor fucking ruffy if that was me the driller would be dead a 48 across the fucking lips to his kids to shit like that hurts ppl Hero drillers who actually dont know what the fuck there doing,Your my fucking hero buddy try that to me when i run tongs see how many of your crew lives after :D

  • Yeah, He actually forgot to turn the pump off.

  • "This is why I'm not a driller!"

why cuz u dont have the balls to do what we do?

  • very amazing

  • Did that guy that was pushed away die?

  • looks like that ole boy forgot to kick his damn pump out

  • what does the term longchange mean?

  • days off

  • no it just fells like you do

  • Why not float valve was used in to the bit sub?. It recommended to use a float valve to prevent this case.

  • He left the mud pumps on!!!!

  • KKKKK

  • okay i am sorry chasme1 but seriously man was that a serious question like c'mon man do u not know anything about the oil patch. and NO! they didnt drown man it doesnt work like that

  • Opps.. Didn't think that first post made it up. Oh well..

  • How do ya'll keep getting this video???? This was my old crew. No one was hurt. The pumps were left on. I have the Origanal. It was in the middle of winter. Working Nights, and we just came on tower. I've seen this happen countless times. Those cams caught alot of funny times out there.

  • I am surprised that roughneck on the drill string didnt get hurt.

  • these drillers look like from the seventies..

  • Looks like trapped pressure to me.

  • given the the driller turns to his control pannel right away i'd say he didn't turn off to pump

  • I doubt the guy died, this happend to me several times when I broke out. My driller would forget atleast twice a month to shut em off. I got to the point I would watch and make sure he shut em off first. If you dont wear your safety glasses that shit would blow behind your eyes. My hardhat would get blown off the rig floor ha ha those where the days.

  • dunno if the guy woulda died man but it woulda hurt a hell of a lot.

  • blowout? what was he stroking at? TURN YOUR PUMP OFF

  • shit. wtf happened?? :O Why did he not shut of the pumps? moron!

  • I feel so bad for that young guy right in front of the pipe. Any news?

  • looks like the dumbass driller just left the pumps on. who knows. that was pretty bad though

  • any one know anything about this? I assume the guy died.

  • This was my crew. Patterson Drilling UTI 171. The guy holding the mud bucket is Cody. He didn't die. Not ever hurt. Pumps were left on. About 2100psi on the stand. We just had these rig cams put in about a few hitches before this.

  • Hi XanplexD! What is the function of the device that Cody is clamping onto the pipe?

You referred to it as a mud bucket.

What prevents blowouts under normal circumstances?

  • This isn't a blow out the driller leaves the pumps on the mud bucket is used to keep the exces mud in the pipe from going everywhere

  • its just a mud bucket or w/e u wanna call it. so the mud falls straight down and not allover crazylike. driller just forgot to turn off the pumps.

what prevents blowouts?? mainly a BOP!
