as a roughy....i NEVER touched the slips until the pump was turned off or idled down...NEVER! Is just a good rule of thumb....for the floor. There was more than one guy on the floor...i can count 5....and NO-ONE noticed the pump still strokin at 1.5m3/min? ... WOW. I am not stickin up for the driller here....but someone should have noticed....is nice to have someone else thinkin/watchin as well, some days are hell on the brake handle...workin' as a team right? Or not?

When I was a worm on a landrig, before I went off-shore, the same thing happened to me. When it was all over and we all cleaned the crap out of our pants, we got to see the video, and we laughed about it. To be honest they we're laughing at me because of my reaction. Now that I am experianced, I look back and as long as no-one was hurt I have to laugh. This was a rookie mistake and could have been avoided. Saftey first Always!

Every driller has left the pumps on before. I've never done it with hot mud before, just fresh water while drilling surface. Its a good way to make the co man get off your rig floor lol!!

I doubt the guy died, this happend to me several times when I broke out. My driller would forget atleast twice a month to shut em off. I got to the point I would watch and make sure he shut em off first. If you dont wear your safety glasses that shit would blow behind your eyes. This was my crew. Patterson Drilling UTI 171. The guy holding the mud bucket is Cody. He didn't die. Not ever hurt. Pumps were left on. About 2100psi on the stand. We just had these rig cams put in about a few hitches before this.
