@joe18370 You can use steel but not pvc and no stainless steel. I used a metal strapping. I think Muddy was using steel banding. I guess steel washers will do if you don't have anything suitable. To close the gap, you can also add a thinner magnet.
I ll bet you could get more than a amp or two out of it or more. the vawt will turn faster than your hand. plus amps build after the speed is constant.
@shartne You could be right. I want to try a Lenz 2 but it's a lot of work. I might try a roof ventilator instead although the cogging might be difficult to overcome unless you have a lot of wind.
It's good to see you making progress. At 1:12 you say you get 100V DC. I am surprised it's getting that high. Are you taking safety precautions to make sure you don't get shocked with that? I think that voltage is getting dangerous for a circuit with exposed connections. Good luck.
@field16 Yes indeed 100 v DC. My bridge rectifier has the so called voltage doubler so the dc voltage is very high. I have seen other ceiling fan motors giving more than 100 v AC. You are right, you forget how dangerous electricity can be thinking it's only dc when dc can be just as dangerous. Thanks for the reminder.
@Iseekoutthetruth Don't really know how many speed. I guess three. You can buy three of these motors for $30 or so. I was going to use it as an alternator for a vawt.
In one of Muddies videos, he shows some of the black banding he uses for his magnets on his ceiling fan projects. You can get this banding at almost any factory and maybe lumber companies, because shippers use it to bundle things like lumber, metal and etc for shipment and the recipient just throws it in the dumpster after un-banding their shipments. It works great for forming in perfect circles.
@MrHorsetail Thanks for the info. I didn't go to a lumber yard, but I did look at Home Depot and they used mostly nylon banding to tie down their stuff. I should have been a little more persistent in my search for parts. Muddy makes everything look easy but it's not all that effortless.
nice work... i did also like that i used magnets from the old car starter motor and its really works good, with my hand spin it give 20 volts ac....

@guanz777The neo magnets are expensive. I have to remove them to use on my other projects. They also tend to squish your fingers. Ouch!

balance your magnets glue them right at the edge

FOR THE GAP CAN YOU USE STEEL WASHERS,BENT TO FIT CURVE ,OR MAY BE PVC PIPE AND GLUE MAGNETS TO IT

YES THE VOLTAGE DOUBLER WILL DECREASE THE AMPS BY HALF. GREAT WORK. I'M GLAD TO SEE THE C F MOTOR CONVERSION. NICE MAGNET ARRAY.

how many speeds did this fan have?
