@bluejeckett Hugh L. is not "sanitized" in 'House' at all! He is portraying the ultimate anti-hero. IMHO only someone who is NOT American could play such an anti-social/unlikeable American character; & would be accepted by the American niewing public as such. The Americans DO so love to love themselves, that an American actor would be pilloried for portraying this kind of character. In any case, the US loves to cast Brits as the 'bad guys' in movies, so why not on the small screen too?!

It wasn't till the film's end that s/o said she was American! This was gr8: up till then most US-actors' English accents were like most UK-actors' American accents: they usually didn't sound 'quite right'! Since GP US voice coaches must have changed technique: now more often than not the 'English' rings true! :-)

@bluejeckett P.S. I do however think that H.L. HAS gone "mainstream" with 'House', as it's not a niche film/indy production, comedy (alternative or otherwise), or any of that ilk. But all well & good: it's a bloomin' good TV series despite his change in direction! I'm really proud of him garnering American favour in his field. He's really hit it big acrosss the Pond (& over here) with this programme! :-)
