  • I saw the "REAL" Genesis at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A. in 1975 shortly before Gabriel departed.....the only thing I can remember (since I was trippin on 4-way Windowpane) was how theatrical the whole performance was with Gabriel dressed up as the Slipperman. What a trip! They did the whole Lamb Lies Down plus a bunch of older stuff including this one. Sweet!!!

  • "The only drug I was interested in was acid, but I was too frightened by my dreams in regular hours to contemplate that."

Yet Peter dressed up as a flower. ;)

  • I just like their progressive rock era much better than their mainstream, pop era. I respect it, I do enjoy some of their songs, but I find the progressive music was so much more interesting. That's just my opinion

  • mindblowing!

  • Great!

  • Sheer Genius!!!

  • Would you relax ChocolateHoneycomb, it's just my opinion, you don't have to agree with it.

  • @MTLguitarist98 Man, Genesis is bigger than Peter...Phil was the most talented member across the years. And Hackett was the responsible musician for the art rock era, when he left, Genesis changed his style.

  • I am the only true Genesis fan here, as I am able to appreciate everything in their career. The rest of you can wallow in your Gabriel... I listen to the real Genesis: ALL OF IT.

  • genesis took a big hit when Gabriel left. they took the knockout punch when Hackett left. this is their greatest piece of music.

  • you don't acid with this genius

  • 21:36 666 n'est plus seul

  • Genesis is nothing without Peter Gabriel.

  • @MTLguitarist98 You're a fucking idiot...

  • The best of their songs, and the music is so tight... much of the time it fools me into thinking it's the album. The mixture of all these creative people. What I would really love is a video showing how their early songs came together. But we'll never see that, alas. Gotta say, Gabriel scares me a little though...

  • excellent film and audio. I wish we had the whole "Lamb"-show with the same quality.

  • Over 40 years old this masterpiece. I love it as much as I did back then!

I think Gabriel was able to take Genesis to a higher level, considering that they never got up to this standard after he left the group.

  • ...Phil seems bored...he wants to do pop music instead.

  • Been in for 40 years...

  • I've love Gabriel era Genesis sine I was 14 years old. I was a boy different from the other kids so this music really spoke to me.

  • @eskimospy77 You were not the only one. :)

  • I'm still a sucker for this early stuff. It isn't the costume stuff, either. The band is off the hook. Banks ability to sustain those agonizing progressions, Hackett's innovation and absurd composition, Rutherfords multi talent and undervalued work, but Collins is the one that floored me. Changed my approach to the tubs altogether.

  • the face of Phil at 24:20 .

  • masterpiece

  • Takes me back to college and listening to LP's in the refectory instead of doing Law (Lp's were before CD's folks)

  • Incredible - Gabriel is obviously the focal point and it makes me realise even more it was pointless without him - they were all incredible players and Gabriel was a great singer/mover/entertainer - I just wish the band would see this - Collins was on some radio show not so long back playing his favourite songs - and they were all Motown! - it's common knowledge he used to follow Yes - why didn't he say - oh fuck this - got any early Yes? - the DJ would have shit himself.

  • ...the phase from one channel is confused....

  • 17:00 and beyond makes my soul cry for music

  • 2nd best song ever made. best one by genesis

  • @nosamcuminhand1 witch one is the 1st in ur opinion?? :)

  • @1803fe 2112 by rush

  • OK

  • DOSKONAŁY FACIO-JAK JA MAGDA

  • Is there an easy-to-find DVD of this show?

  • still sounds so good after all those years... lovely song!

    "a Flower"? yeah!

  • A flower!?

    <3

  • oh every1 else bailed

  • amazing.......

  • thank to post this wonderful video

  • This is truely Peter Gabriel's Genesis with his amusing and confusing antics and when Phil Collins was just the drummer.

  • Saw this in '74 in Atlanta -- a MIDNIGHT, Friday night gig in the Fox Theater (a grand 1920s atmospheric movie house just then converting to a performing arts center. The perfect setting. Tubular Bells was the only thing run through the sounds system as the crowd filed in. Then they opened with Watcher of the Skies, played basically entire Selling England by the Pound album and went on to this! Best $6 I ever spent!

  • @brentgilroy I'm jealous!

  • Many many thanks for posting this, takes me back to the days when there was hope in my eyes, in my heart and fire in my belly. I was going to change the world, just like my heros, but sadly time and tide take its toll and the young man crumbles under the weight of living and conforming and working for the man. How I wish I was 14 once more.......

  • it must be really annoying for all of them that they never came up with anything better

  • i have wanted to see this all my music listening life. thanks but have you got a 76/77 version?

  • 12-strings for everyone! ha ha.

  • I love Peter Gabriel, but those guys were probably so relieved when he was out of the band - lol!

  • When I first listened Foxtrott in the middle of the eighties I was amazed. All those years I search at movies and live concerts - and now, a lot of times later, there all the gems online..

  • That would still be avante garde by today's standards.

  • This is Insane Asylum footage to the hilt!

  • The Ultimate Progressive Rock Epic Song

  • Sends Chills up and down my spine every time I listen to this song

  • Read Wikipedia's write up on this song...it's bizarre...you're not a true Genesis fan unless you know and like this song.

  • I love intelligent theatre rock, and lyrics, that blow your mind, genesis were amazing with gabriel,he is still the prototype of an artist in this century,a very talented, gifted allrounder,i never saw again such an unique performer...i collected the old material, musically they were like mozart for me,classic, jazz, metal, blues, psyche, folk, they couldplay it all, guitar and organ was played astonishing, fast, clear, like knives cutting bread, haha!

  • Takes me back...what a gem this video is! Foxtrot is the best!

  • Thanks to You Tube, I am glad there are many others who appreciate this!

  • This is not a concert, this is a theatre using a musical masterpiece to tranport us to Genesis World, I´m already in, what about you?

  • @NsmiguelCOD I was in in 1973 and I still get back from time to time. This reminds me that inside I am still 14 and not middle aged now. How I miss these masterpieces from Peter Gabriel's Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Camel, etc etc

  • @NsmiguelCOD fuck yes bato!!! Ive been in since 1972

  • I get the feeling Peter Gabriel is the only one who took acid in Genesis.

  • @MagicQuill75 Why would you say that? Everyone did. He just did it with awesome flair.

  • @sewhite1 I agree, I was joking. The rest of the band just look so straight laced in comparison to Peter Gabriel.

  • @MagicQuill75 i guess who knows but he declared he was a clean person back in the 70s

  • @MagicQuill75

they weren't into the drug thing

  • Comment removed

  • Epic, Glorious Moment of Music.

  • Love it EVERY TIME

  • This is so COOL! I love the Flower Guy!!!

  • Seriously? It is the same band of Ilegal Alien?

  • @arbraulin So, if you're really questioning ;D As I like to call the Genesis with Peter Gabriel and the Genesis Trio having Phil Collins as Singer, The genesis trio did songs like mama, that's all, home by the sea, and the peter gabriel genesis did lamb lies down on broadway, carpet crawlers, firth of fifth. ;D

  • @arbraulin yes ,catchy tune, but, made by the band with fortsight n intergral fortitude of long

  • it's good to feel you again, genesis

  • I admit this is creepy but then it gets really funny what with Peter's dancing around and stuff but this is a wonderful song over all. I loved it! It's one of the best ones from the peak of Genesis' career before Peter's leave of absence.

  • Seeing the three guys playing the 12 string guitar on Lover s Leap is electrifying.

  • eight persons have a serious mental problems

  • those last few minutes ("as sure as eggs is eggs") still raise the hair on the back of my neck, even after owning the album for over 35 years. the only other work that does that for me is the 1812 Overture

  • funny, it isn't much to watch, but I couldn't take my eyes off, it is such a timeless and emotional work of music. only saw them one, for the "Lamb" tour in the USA. always a fav group and buncha talents

  • Okay. I have decided. This is...the best thing I have ever seen on film. It really is. It's absolutely perfect in every single way. Okay.

  • Peter Gabriel um Show dentro de um Grande Show

  • I know a chap who was given tickets to see Peter Gabriel live in LA. He didn't particularly like his work but went anyway. He told me after that he was one of the best live performers he'd ever seen- there you go.

  • This song, this band is epic

  • that's quite the hairline he's got going on

  • Genesis. they all took their music seriously. THE best live band ever.

  • Maravilhoso. Uma das coisas mais linda que já ouvi!

  • Absolutely enigmatic, bizarre, brilliant, unforgettable and quirky...this one song taking an entire side of an album (unheard of today) with an equally odd album cover of one of PG's personas...the fox headed figure in the red dress. Each part of this rambling song sticks in one's head like flypaper....

  • Hipster Genesis, playing with light saber before it was cool

  • what oceanozone said. plus a white satin package :X

  • He shaved that strip on the top of his head and now he's bald there. I bet he wishes he had every second with that hair he shaved, now that he doesn't have it anymore. The only one who could ever get away with these stage gimmicks is Gene Simmons, and only because he's cool to the bone. Paul Stanley was/is a helluva rocker, but he looked stupid. Gabriel, 3/4 of Kiss, Ziggy Stardust, anybody I'm forgetting, clowns all. Ooh, Alice Cooper's good. Hate his hits, like his non-hits, he looked cool.

  • @FightForUtopia No, for those two you mentioned with approval are Americans so that can't be.

  • @whyteay Huh? Gene Simmons and Alice Cooper can't be cool because they're American?

  • Where's this on RS's 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time? Did someone rip the page out of my issue?

  • @VanderGraafBozo bro they are terrible, no one reads that shit anymore move on !

  • @glassjaw2007 with they are terrible i mean the magazine

  • @glassjaw2007 You better ;)

  • @glassjaw2007 I know, don't worry. I was being facetious.

  • I can't imagine what was going through their heads when they wrote this unparalleled masterpiece. Some people these days try too hard to be "crazy/weird" in a cool way and others try to be "cool" and just end up looking stupid. Gabriel doesn't need to try. He can be weird and cool and badass and instantly become the biggest visual spectacle phenomenon. All in one song. He's a one-of-a-kind guaranteed eternal visionary man.

  • This is Incredible!

  • Gabriel is a proper actual MENTAL! (in a good way, obviously!) :)

  • I think I've listened to this like only once in my entire life.

  • @1dgkonig It never ends once you first play it...

    Classic

  • @1dgkonig I think my entire life I have been listening to this

  • It's just amazing. :)

  • Holy frik'n crap! I can't believe this one.

  • Ahhh Magog.

For a very long time He was just a part of a fascinating cover. Now He's in motion, and still fascinating.

  • Thank you

    . Le Québec .

  • This is incredible!!!! Thank you for posting this. It blows my mind how few people know that Gabriel was the first lead singer. He was a show in his own right. Nobody was doing this w/ prog. The band of course is fantastic but I could see how Gabriel's presence could overshadow the rest of the group. I love all phases of Genesis. They were brilliant to be able to change w/ the times.

  • @rt2112 Absolutely agree Gabriel was a superb showman and hard act to follow for Collins, though in the early days I felt he did really well. Watching Hackett with the joke porno moustache and the clothes they are all wearing makes me feel old and reminds me of the cover art on Rush's 2112; I take it from your id that you are familiar with this ;-)

  • I saw Peter Gabriel in Santa Barbara, CA. in 1979 or 80 at a little theatre- one of the best concerts ever...amazing stuff.. pure creative genius!! <3

  • Nothing better or more creative... LOVE Peter Gabriel...

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • I have to admit I like Phil's version from the 80s cuz he could hit and sustain the high notes, and the lighting techniques with Varilites gave the ending to this majestic piece more power and emotion. it was some of the best most emotional prog rock i experienced.

  • Strong! (Stark) I like the old Genesis!( Ich liebe die alten Genesis) Wow ! Good Record! (Geile Aufnahme...Sledgehammer!)

  • IS THIS ON DVD?

  • Wow.

The best progressive band ever. The first show i saw when i was 17 at The Montreal Forum for the Lamb Lies Down tour, in '74 and still remember it like yesterday.

Funny, @21:36 what the lyrics are regarding 2012, I call this visionnary.

  • Hey that drummer is pretty good

  • @excelerater nice

  • Nothing short of incredible. I've been a fan of Genesis for 35 years and this is giving me the chills. Peter was quite the character along with being brilliant. I'd love to find some stuff off the" Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" of this quality. That 2 album set is a masterpiece just as this song is. This is crazy good!!

  • simply incredible.......no words, wish i knew about this when i was in my teen age years, but at list we are left with these clips now and forever, treasure , thx so much for posting this magnificent pure art!! Love everything this band did in the early times.

  • The first Band I ever saw live, at the Luton Technical college supporting Rory Gallagher who was recording Live in Europe, must of been about 12 or 13.

  • The best of all times...Grandiosi...!!!

  • I Genesis?

    Ma che palle...

  • @Marantzino ahahhahh ma sei fuori?? :D

  • stealing "seconds out" as a teen, re-discovering it in college, 25 yrs. later, i'm not sure of the lyrics, but @23:22 forward it's been an unconsious anthom, and it's come full circle...

  • 5 flowers watched this video. . .well, no. 4 flowers and 1 Magog

  • Thank the Gods we have this 'live' version of 'Supper' from Shepperton. The song is taken to a higher level with Pete's antics and costume changes. The subtle lighting effects have so much more atmosphere than the barrage of lighting used in concerts today.... A classic!

  • Very beautiful, The only thing getting between me and my YES obsession.

  • I was lucky enough to see them live in Montreal ... They were beyond awesome .. undescribable, unforgettable ... went and got a 12 string guitar :)

  • I can recite every god damn word from this tour.

    ...

This is what happens when you fall in love with the world's greatest preformance.

  • Truly one of the most incredible pieces of music ever written

  • one of the 3 best song of all time une de mes 3 meilleurs chanson au monde

  • I cry every time..

  • powerful and majestic, their version of the classic story of a descent into hell, and the final triumph of God, wow.

  • where do I get an outfit like Peter's?

  • this is almost too much for me to take

  • What a truly amazing and talented artist and an insufferable wanker all rolled up into one.

  • @ozoneocean ????

  • viva magog!

  • so where do the mexican banditos fit in?

  • nice, thanks :)

  • I can only echo what everyone else said. I saw the show in Birmingham, Was it really 73?!! Great to see it all in one, Still No 1 on my desert island discs!

  • Thanks for posting this great videos! I remember the hard winter in 1983 when I listened many days and nights ,the music made up by Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and so on. The Giants of Rock Music. Thank You from Bucharest. A Happy New Year for all members of this forum!

  • This song...

    ...nuff said.

  • Ich liebe diese alten Sachen von Genesis!!!

    Das war meine Zeit!

Ich bin damals mit dieser Mucke groß geworden und hatte mein erstes Mal bei dieser Session!

  • Whenever the world ends, this song will play in everyone's head.

  • und da find ich noch nen YES Vorschlag in den Videos...was sollen die den hier..die konnten doch niemals das Wasser reichen...

  • Thanks for posting !!! The greatest Song Ever! Danke Peter!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The highest achievement in Progressive Music...True Art!

  • Its good to feel you again.....its been a long long time.....

  • Would love the sheet music for this (Flute guitar and piano) such a nice song =)

  • I made a decision that if one day Doc Brown came up to my door and said: "PETER! I've got the time machine right here, we could go to any time, any place you'd like. Where would you like to go?" and I would reply "Ok, how about September 1972 so I can follow Genesis on their Foxtrot tour." and I'd imagine he would reply "but you could see the fall of the Roman Empire, a Shakesphere play, the sinking of the Titanic!" and I would say "Nope, Genesis. And JT's TaaB tour."

  • @peteyification Totally agreed!!!!!! To this day I have never been to any show that was comparable!!!!!!

  • for real

  • @peteyification - good answer. while you're there you can check out Yes on their Yessongs tour.

  • @peteyification And you might stick around for a couple Passion Play shows!!!
