Long story short: I had the Weapon-R Dragon intake on my Corolla, and to avoid the heat issue, I upgraded it to the Ram-air Dragon intake (that enclosed the filter in a capsule that had a fat hose running out to the bumper). Hydrolock was avoided by having the filter actually inside my engine bay; yet at the same time, I got the cold air thanx to the hose. The SW intake does not have the capsule (they do still make the hose though) so it's stuck being a quasi-short-ram intake. Too bad.
worried about heat. I noticed the tube itself gets pretty hot so i wraped it up with 1000 degree F. heat shield tape. Cool as ice now. And purchased a carbon fiber heat shield. Every degree cooler counts.
AEM, GREEDY, HKS Brand names is what makes these mods expensive. just by an air intake thats best in quality and performance. I Bought and Exedy Stage 2 Racing Clutch for My Bmw 635csi. cost me $350 The Ride Was Even Better
omg dude only turbo can give that much power dude, an intake adds max of 8-10hp(and that's only v8, and more pwerful engines), on evo's and sti's u can't get more than 7hp, not more, on an N/A v6 engine u can't get more than 5hp....
this is true! with hot air flowing to your engine you'll lose more then u gain from that airfilter...It suppose to go all the way to the bumper - this will give you cold air which is more denser and it actually increases your fuel economy (depends how u drive) and gives a little boost to your performance ( A little guys NOT 20 hp! its insane) as absurdny states, "It will give you about 5 HP"
you are correct. and the people that disagree, well, why are the stock intakes routed for cold air into the fenders and such from the factory and not sucking hot air from the engine bay? because hot is kills combustion efficiency.
This DECREASES YOUR PERFORMANCE by allowing hot air from the engine to go in to the air intake. You should use a proper air filter housing and paper filter - the surface area is much bigger and they DO filter the air. That piece of crap will slow your car down. Don't believe the sales talk. On a rolling road test the best filter is the one fitted at the factory every time.
i would not say that, ive seen cold air synos withthe CAI and p2r spacer on tl's that gain about 8-10 at wheels i guarantee its fater then stock. the warm air pending temp outside could help maybe... but the more air you suck in is alwasy better :
People say all this crap about "ohh its going to suck in hot air" like the car is standing still. The car is moving!! The hot air does not float in the air and stay in the same spot. It moves when the car moves.
I CAI does really nothing more then slightly move the little bit of power that a SRI gives you around to a different part of the RPM band and increases your chances of hydro-locking your motor.
MAN, thats sounds good. i was doing a little reading on this air intake - crazy awsome. i have 2 questions. How much HP will this add, and how much better does it sound? let me know thanks
It doesn't add any HP, it decreases performance by sucking in hot air. It also doesn't filter to the same standard and blocks faster because the surface area is many times smaller than a paper filter. Boy Racers confuse NOISE with SPEED. I prefer a fast and quiet car any day.
that engine sounds nice and when i bought a weapon R for myself it sounded great. did yours come with a MAF port? mine didn't and i can't even keep it on because it will fry my starter system, i have to try to start it at least 8 times before it actually starts. so... i hope you got a MAF(mass air flow) port.
no bs but it sounds good but I do recommend you relocate your battery to the trunk to grab some better air flow... ps. consider an optima redtop battery while you are at it also

You are crazy if you think just a intake is going to give you 20 HP.

No it won't. Thats what Ebay sellers want you to believe and you are not too smart for believing it. It will give you about 5 HP

With hot air in the engine bay, it'll eat up 10 hp easily

The radiator fans that come with the TL are fairly large, although I could see a heat pocket forming behind that battery.

thats why you get a cold air intake that adds power to your car
