The songs are so heart wrenching and poignant that any version played with this much soul, love, truth, genius.........honor the memory of the humble boy from Seattle who had incredible influence on global music and culture. This beautiful tribute as well as the Corrs magical Irish version exemplify that. Thanks for the video and beautiful comments. I often imagine Jimi hearing these beautiful versions sitting on clouds in Heaven smiling.
we all know. who wrote it. who might be the genius or the best or your favorite or who deserves credit and what not. its about whats before you now. and the good things jimi would say to see someone else inspired by his tunes. good things. this is bitchin
@annd10001 They are a husband and wife duo from California. This video is pretty much how they record their albums: two tracks, recorded simultaneously, usually nailing it on the first take. Beautiful music from beautiful people. Years ago their record company put me in touch with the author of "Take My Breath Away," who faxed me a copy of her original handwritten score so that I could play it at my wedding. I still have it among my most treasured musical memorabilia.
I've loved them since the 1980's with their first CD & saw them live soon after that.... "Little Wing" comes out of the ether somewhere around 2:30. Gorgeous arrangement. This duo have heavily influenced me from the start.....on so many levels. Thanks, Tuck & Patti....you are a blessing.
@m:It sounds that way because it's so clean & full range: Bartonlini pups don't lose highs when turned down, no distortion, effects, or midrange hump: Every overtone clear. Most jazz & rock players do whatever possible to mask such high-end "noise", but it's where real expression is. Fret noise: worth it. My favorite, Freddy King: Played w/ trebly tone & metal pick, creating a rain of random harmonics,"noise", but after all was said & done, his sound was unique & beautiful. As is Tuck's.
@lazur1 Apples and Oranges...it makes more sense for Freddie King, he's loud and aggressive and raucous, gritty and dirty. I listened to Tuck's playing again and I just can't get over the string walk, it ruins the song for me. To each his own, sounds sloppy and thin to me.
@m Apples & oranges as far as style, not as far as high end noise. There's a lot of expression in the highs that you can't get without noise, whether you're raucous, gritty and dirty, or any other style. For perspective, who are your favorites? If you're a George Van Eps fan, you have a case,.as he developed elaborate fingerings to avoid virtually all string noise. In most other cases, noise's masked w/rolled-off highs, or "noisy" ideas are avoided. To me, the loss is greater than the gain.
Saw these guys at the Utah Jazz & Blues Festival a few years back. Tuck is unbelievable! They received a standing ovation for this song combo. Fantastic!!
seeing this live... I will never forget.... they are so incredible it is almost silly... and they are so in love it is magical to see and it comes out in their playing together... so much love so great
Well, of course, everyone has their perspective and opinions on different things, but if there were ever two individuals destined to be together, it's these two. Chemistry is there....They make great music together.
@19FLA69 You said it. How can anybody listen to this and not be moved? I get that Jimi purists might like the original better, but this is just a beautiful cover. Why don't people understand it's OK to like both?
This arrangement is pretty much his attempt at hendrix' original arrangement, hendrix himself played it different everytime of course. Hendrix by the way, wrote the beautiful music and lyrics to these two songs which they made this medley out of. Two of many many beautiful peices of music and poetry Jimi Hendrix composed! There have been many musical genius', Jimi was one of them.
i still have the album they signed when they went here in the philippines a long time ago and i have no intention selling it. i'll pass it on to my children someday :)
Fantastic player , a free way to play guitar with elegance and energy , feeling . Amazing way to play with any organized technique. Great musician ! Great playn' . I wish to learn that technique on my playin' !
As a person who doesn't really follow Tuck and Patti, I must say this is probably the best fucking song I've ever heard on the internet or anywhere else for that matter !!
I heard Tuck and Patti as a young 16 year old fresh out of home with the world to conquer. I loved there combination then and to this day still find it hard to find a comparison. So glad to have a had uncles and aunties that had a wide range of diversity in music.
I stopped comparing guitarist's long, long ago. With that being said, Tuck Andress posesses the 2 most precious gifts that can be bestowed by God which are touch & timing. The guitarist's who play at this level strike a balance between expression (feeling) & knowledge (theory). Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Roy Buchanan, Danny Gatton, Eric Johnson etc. understand this balance. I believe this level of talent is rare indeed. But in the natural order of things. isn't that how it should be?
I bet Jimi's mind would be blown if he knew he was still being played on the radio today, being heard by fathers and sons across the world, and being covered by such talented artists. He was such a non-egoist. I'm glad they did this as a tribute. Rest in peace Jimi
