  • Brilliant stuff. Anybody think it's like a bit of Northern Soul?

  • Er.... It IS a bit of Northern Soul

  • i love this song ! 10th grade 1967 jammin'

  • awesome song

  • We've shared the stage with Sonny Turner and he puts on a G-R-E-A-T show. He is the new Mr. Excitement

  • It wasn't a whole new lineup from the original group. Originals David Lynch and Herb Reed were still with the Platters in 1967.

  • God approves of this joyous melody !!

    John: 1:14

  • love the use of the minor chords @ 0:33 and 1:34.

  • Thank you YOUTUBE.

  • I played this record while my Dad put a new wedding ring on my mums finger because her original one had worn away, I was Christmas time and I had been bought the L.P. I was all of 13 years old. Also love "washed ashore" and "I love you 1.000 times". Still got the L.P. somewhere.

  • FANTASTIC, thank you Ian. Great re-recording with 100% authenticity kept.

  • This was a beautiful song to end The Platters dynasty. Led By Sonny Turner with a whole new lineup, it charted to the14 spot on the billboard charts in 1967. Buck Ram, the owner/manger of the group molded Tony Williams & Zola Taylor, the only female member, & the rest of the original 50s group into one of the greatest acts, never to be duplicated. They were one of the first black groups to chart on the pop charts which tells us how good they were even in these segregated times. What say you

  • I 'm crazy bout this song ..........but does anybody have the original Musicor lable of I love you 1000 times the ending of this song bopped so BOSS! They're Musicor recordings were: I love you 1000 times, With this ring and the rare but forgotton Washed ashored

  • His voive is a cross between Levi Stubbs and Jackie Wilson.

  • Its probably only a matter of time before Simon Cowell gets his teeth into a creating a Soul band, and calling it Soul Factor. But..it might be a good thing.

  • Is this the original recording? Or is it a newer version?

I love this voice very much, and the poster who compared it to Levi's is absolutely right.

    Simply beautiful.

  • It's the 1999 re-recording

  • Sorry, I should have read all of your article before asking ...

    Thanks for the answer.

  • It doesn't sound a whole lot different from the 1967 original. Re-records generally suck(IMO anyway), but this re-record is very well done. An Exception to the rule. One of the best beach music classics of ALL time.

  • amen!

  • ha,wooª

  • ..R.I.P Richard 'Popcorn' Wylie

  • Thank's ever so much Ianlevine for this song . Sure sound's like Motown, love the beat and the basseline. Thank's again. Rock from Montreal.

  • That is a great song and one beautiful lady in the video.

  • He sounds like Levi from the Temps.

    Sounds like Motown to me.

    Beautiful.

  • Sorry to correct you, but you mean the Four Tops, not the Temptations.

  • Ian

    Your absolutely right.

  • fantastic track, ty

  • thanks mate ktf

  • time goes by and we are all old now..=) but they are always our idol, super idol.

  • I'm Soo glad i found this song and who the artist is , i always sing it but didn't kno who sang it, and me being an oldies fanatic u would think i would kno better

  • brilliant, in fact better than brilliant..

  • luv the words ace song best 1 theyve dun

  • Sonny Turner

  • loved shaging to this in Myrtle Beach South Carolina and thank you for the memories

  • Thanks for posting these classic songs!! I hate to think that kids today won't know who the Platters were! Timeless and beautiful. Thanks again.

  • This is the song my wife and I were married to in 2004,a year later we saw the Platters in Las Vegas, they didn't do this number but it was a great show.Nice to see that this song means so much to so many people.

  • I remember seeing Sonny Turner and the Platters perform "With This Ring" on American Bandstand. Most people don't realize that this song had the Motown musicians of Detroit. It is unlike any other Platters song. Special thanks for posting this remarkable song and Special thanks to Herb Boyd who continues to keep the Platters alive today.

  • You have me wondering about when Tony Williams left, I see other sources saying 1961, and June 1960. Am I to believe that Sonny Turner sang on Harbor Lights and Reflections In The Water?

By the way, see my post of Tony Williams solo.

  • On the Mercury recordings, Harbor Lights and Reflections In The water were sung by Tony Williams. Sonny Turner did a version of Harbor Lights in 1967(Musicor recording).

  • Harbor Lights was recorded in August 1959 before Tony Williams left. There were several somgs recorded before Tony Williams left but released afterward such as Red Sails in The Sunset recorded August 1959 but first released on the album Reflections issue in April 1960.

  • Thanks for your lovely comment SandiCrack.

Your uncle played this song and danced cheek to cheek with me on our wedding night. It was 1st July 1967. He was wonderful. I hope so much that a cure for MS is found very soon. Please support research everyone.

  • This song was played in church at my Uncle's funeral recently. It was a special song for him and my Aunt when they married in 1966. Makes me smile and cry at the same time.

  • What a fabulous fantastic niece you are. He loved you to bits. But then you already knew that. You were there on the 1st July, 1967. Keep smiling he wants it that way. x

  • I hope you saw my first message but just in case it got lost along the way I want to say thanks for this lovely tribute. You are one in a million and your Uncle adored you and your gorgeous sister. Remember the baby sitting days when he put the teddy on the chair pretending it was him to fool you? Keep smiling.

  • Got your message ok. Looked up the lyrics of Here There and Everywhere - I think Paul wrote it for Linda. It is wonderful. I wanted reetreet but it had gone, would you believe, so I added an a. Like it though. I have posted a message on The Platters song Only You as that was the song played as we left the church. Look up the lyrics they are so poignant. Loves ya

  • It's great to hear this song again--I haven't heard it since my deejaying days! My favorite incarnation of the Platters was the one with Sonny Turner on lead vocals.

  • nice nice nice :D

  • I luv this song !

  • Sonny Turner's a KING!

    You Tube RULES!

    So much SWEET SOUL MUSIC!

  • that is so cool sexyllama i'm 16 and I love this song

  • Thats my step-grandma!!!!

  • Sonny is a great singer and also a great person! For a while in 1982 I was working in his band as a bass player!

  • ever play with sonny in Buffalo, NY at the Executive

  • I have always loved this song and will always love this song. I remember I got kicked out of a bar one afternoon in Georgetown when this song first came out. I played it on the jukebox 20 times in a row before the bartender started getting hostile....

  • Oh, that was YOU...

  • My uncle preformed with the platters in a bar in Idaho in the early 90's. That young lady featured in this video preformed solo in one song.

  • It just doesn't get any better than this. Love Sonny Turner, and he's still the ultimate performer

  • best song from the 60's

  • Sonny Turner was not one of the original Platters during their hit years. The lead was Tony Williams. Sonny replaced him after they started declining in popularity. He had a great voice and I'm sorry he didn't strike out on his own sound instead of trying to cover Williams' sound. No one could do that.

  • love this song me and my dad love to sing to it

  • Sonny Turner replaced Jimmy Williams (?) as the lead singer of the Platters and sang With this Ring, Love you a 1,000 Times and the group's number one beach song Washed Ashore on a Lonely Island With You.

  • I think this song came out in 1968 around then...

    I remember it nonetheless!

I'm a "BIG" Sonny Turner fan!

    Believe it!

  • that song came out in 1966,and the lead singer for the flamingos nate nelson sang with them on this hit.

  • Sonny Turner most definitely did the lead vocal.

  • This shuffle came out around the same time as the Four Tops' "I'll Turn To Stone" and has the exact same tempo and feel. Sonny Turner's voice sounds so much like Levi Stubbs that alot of folks assumed that this was the latest from the Motown hit factory.

  • finally someone says that other than me, when i first heard this song a few months ago i thought it was the four tops but when i found out it was the platters i said to myself "he sounds like a young levi"

  • Dang do I LOVE this song!!! One of the greats!

  • Great song !

  • This is a great song that I've always loved hearing! Thanks for posting.

  • Now this is one of the platter group that I really do respect Buck Ram Platters,Sonny Turner Platters,Herb Reed Platters,I give credit where credit is do,after being with Bill Pinkney Drifters for 18 years,I ve toured with alot of different platter groups but the ones that I mentioned got that platters sound

  • There's alot of imposters or retreads of these groups, But if you can place Sonny Turner who I think is the only original of the Platter's hit making era, then it still worth seeing. Yes , I know the rest of the group has passed on , same as the Drifters, but I would not see a Drifter concert without Ben E. King fronting the band.

  • Love Sonny Turner. Discovered him through Beach Music. Where can I get a copy of "The Strange World Of Northern Soul"?

  • Loved it!!!!! Thanks so much, Mr.Levine.
