Great collection of walter's fantastic talent,so sad that the great help he gave mariah has not been recognised by her since..he was massive in her development as an artist..thank you for the video and thank you Walter :-)
Mariah will probably never ever work with Walter again. After he betrayed her trust, it's no wonder. Telling things to Tommy when she confided in him. Mariah did want to work with him after her divorce for Rainbow but he said he was too busy. Can you believe it?! Too busy?! It was because he probably had to choose between Sony/Tommy M or Mariah. He chose the first. Still, would be amazing if they'd make a song together again sometime..
The whgle body of work he did with Mariah was such exceptional ... regardless what Tommy Motola had on her musical choices for her early albuns ... the final quality was just suberbe. The same I can't really say about her current work ... I like it just don't feel really as impressed as I was once before. Trey's "Always In Love" from his debut album just sounded like a "twinsister song" to Mariah's "Cant Let Go" ...cool!
I think a music making partnership as great as Afanasieff and Carey is Madonna and Patrick Leonard. I think Afanasieff and Leonard are pretty much gimmick free, classically trained melodists who do that timeless LA, adult contemporary ballad and pop style at their best with those respective longterm artists. Afanasieff seems to engage lyrical depth from Mariah as does Leonard with Madonna. No flash to the productions, just great songwriting and melodies. Pop at it's best, in my opinion.
@gizmo4eva I feel the same way bout Walter and Pat Leonard. And with all respect for the great David Foster I prefered always their production cowritten material they did to everyone they worked with ... Madonna defitively would not sound so credible in her high 80s pick without Leonard's imput and Mariah would have never amazed me as much without Walter A.
@gizmo4eva couldn't agree more, patrick was to madonna what walter was to mariah. shame these great producers have fallen into the background of popular music but who knows, they say everything comes back...will the great ballad of the 80's/90's return?
@beatmania3rdmix I am going to be killed for saying this but I have to ...it's true ... the only Walter A song I seriously can't stand is Celine's My Heart Will Go On .. not because of him ... but the song just got over everything to the point of vomiting ... LOL and it's been 12 years already I still can't stand it so sorry guys.
walter studied under narada and that is why they sound similar...he was narada's arranger and later in narada's career was actually producing but not getting credit, which is why he went solo starting with mariah and ltt...narada became irrelevant soon after
Because for Mariah Walter is not the most suitable producer for the kind of music she wants to persue these days and it's been like that ever since Rainbow days up tll now. It's very crystal clear to me so when I first read that he was working with her i asked myself ..."what for?" because for me Mimi today is musicallywise far from what Walter is good at. She has become herself musically the one she said she was ... and he will always be the producer he is. No more matching for me
@jlenoconel She just doesn't feel as connected to this type of songs and production as she once was ... and maybe (and this is just me) the body of work she did with Walter might remind her too much of the Tommy Motolla marriage days which she seriously got affected by. And it's a shame ... what a splendid work she did.
5:52 the huge and amazingly beautiful "everytime you need a friend" which I consider the highest point of this unique composer and producer. Thanks Walter for the fantastic work and hopefully still much to come
Longer Clip Of Love Takes Time Because It Was His First Song In Total Control as A Producer And It Was A #1 Hit For Him And Mariah =) It's Also The Song That Made Me Fall In Love With Mariah.
What about Narada Michael Walden ? I believe he was there before Walter, and I'm sure he was an inspiration to the latter . Their works are somewhat "similar" : Mariah (I don't wanna cry), Tevin Campbell (Tell me what you want me to do (among others)), Whitney (All the man that I need), and many....
Yeah, He Has Some Great Songs But, Worked With Mariah Only Once, As Did Ric Wake.. They We're Actually appointed To Work On Mariah's Debut Album As Oppossed To Walter Who Was Mariah's Very Good Friend After The Sucess Then Caught In The Middle Of Her & TM.. Walter & Mariah We're A Team. I Love His Sound.
Just another VERY talented musician of Russian ancestry. :)

Mariah don't forget that most of your beautiful songs was co written with Walter!!

You're missing some songs. "Close My Eyes" - Mariah Carey and "Stay the Same" - Joey McIntyre are a few I can think of.
