He actually said "non-dom" which is a term used to refer to a person who is legally living and working in the UK for whatever reason (James is a non-dom), but is not fully a citizen or a permanent resident. The only time I've seen him make an independent investment on the show was for Razzamatazz, which he only made, because he invested in StageCoach beforehand...as well as sending his kids there for coaching.

It's only recently on the latest series that I've noticed any kind of coldness between them as previously they've invested in quite a few projects together. @2006scottw He wasnt saying "dom dom" (it did sound a bit like that though!) He actually said "non-dom" which is a term used to refer to a person who is legally living and working in the UK for whatever reason (James is a non-dom), but is not fully a citizen or a permanent resident. I hate to see James leave too, he's my favourite dragon... I think the whole thing was so petty! It's not James fault that the law is the way it is.. so why's Duncan throwing a fit?! I don't completely understand.

@lisaking22 He's not throwing a fit, he's just saying it's unfair..which it is. You say it's not James' fault , like he's an innocent victim. Him and his accountants have arranged it this way.
He is so wealthy but is paying a lesser rate of tax than the rest of us, just because of some slick accounting.
If you honestly think that's fair, then you need to check yourself into a clinic.

I had to replay that 5 times and I still could not understand a word his saying, james caan is great man, I loved watching him on Dragons Den, his the politest and the nicest guy on the show, and it would be a great shame to see him leave, Duncan Ballentyn should quit his an ass.

The issue was the 'non domicile' tax rule, a woefully unfair hangover from colonial times which saves the super-wealthy a fortune..leaving regular working people footing a greater degree of the tax bill.

He was saying that all non-domiciled people making money in the UK have an unfair advantage over regular UK citizens because they get massive tax breaks. He and James Caan had a disagreement on the subject but he made it personal by bringing up Bannatyne's old criminal record, in attempt to dodge his accusations about his exploitation of his non-dom status.

The only time I've seen him make an independent investment on the show was for Razzamatazz, which he only made, because he invested in StageCoach beforehand...as well as sending his kids there for coaching.

It's only recently on the latest series that I've noticed any kind of coldness between them as previously they've invested in quite a few projects together. It's most likely what made a few deals fall through, like the one they made with the lady with the wires in the wall.
