  • Chris Botti is simply an fantastic trumpetist! Plenty of soul and feeling in his sound.... Truly AMAZING!

  • música da Adele com o Richard e foi uma das trilhas sonoras da novela da globo Viver a Vida!

  • everyones problem is that everything that has improv is thrown under one genre... jazz has so many subgenres, i qualify this as more pop jazz with the likes of kenny g. that being said, i think pop jazz is boring and personally enjoy hard bop with the likes of freddie hubbard and art blakey far, far more. but i respect that these guys are good at what they do and have found their niche, i just intend to ignore it

  • 47 people dont have a Valentine

  • A little too polished at times, but his musicianship shines through.

  • This is just sooo beautiful...

  • Young of 17 years old. But from time to time I enjoy listening to music like this.. I realize what true music is . And after all it's very relaxing :)

  • Damn. This was about 3 notches past schmaltzy. He shouldn't even be allowed to bring a trumpet near My Funny Valentine. It's like he's slapping Miles in the face. Chris, do the world a favor. Put the trumpet back in the case.

  • @ethansimon94 was tht an insult sir?!

  • @fr3dcp ...yes?

  • @ethansimon94 Yeah it's kind of sad, like they've packaged jazz for the mainstream and put an extra sugar coating on it. There is absolutely no edge, no soul. I'm still trying to figure out this guy's popularity. In the meantime all I know is that it's painful to listen to.

  • It's so beautiful!

  • Is a great idea Michael Bublé y Chris Botti together ;-)

  • @nwolter19 I wouldn't mind doing a duet with Chris. I play sax and my video could be my audition. :))

    -- Debb Saxx

  • he's very serious, but he does a great job. quiet the variation.

  • @BitOveRate I'll keep try looking for one then ;)

  • a great player ...unfortunately it is indeed... corny.

  • @KrummyBear... to put a finer point on it, Kenny G is a technician... he knows every note, every lick, lots of songs. But there is no creativity or soul. It is the exercises he practiced 5 hours a day played over and over again. I appreciate the fact he can blast out a song but Chris Botti has more creativity and soul in this one song than Kenny G. has ever been able to muster...

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW ITS AMAZING SONG!!!

  • Love this song! Its forever in my heart! It for sone reason reminds me of my grandparents true l♥ve

  • Good for Botti, has an interesting technique and a nice sound, but that piano player... no coments...

  • When people hate you, they really hate themselves b/c you are what they want to be...

  • Why does everyone dis Chris botti I love his music

  • i love chris botti's music he is the best trumpet play i have ever heard i play trumpet just like chris botti but mine is blue

  • below comment is directed at @KrummyBear

  • Chris Botti went to IU for trumpet. That being said, he can improvise his butt off and play the crap out of his trumpet since he studied bebop with David Baker and studied classical trumpet at one of the best music schools in the world. He wouldn't go through the IU system and come out not being able to play jazz. Botti is the definition of what everyone should do as a musician: Find something you do well that people like to listen to and make yourself into something new and unique, which he is.

  • I LIKE IT

    THANKS!

  • I don't care particularly for Botti's "smooth jazz" work, but he does a fine job on straight-ahead jazz like this rendition of Funny Valentine. He's a talented guy.

  • straordinario

  • Chris Botti is the Kenny G of trumpet...

  • @KrummyBear

I cannot imagine a more ill-informed comment. Putting improv to one side,K. G is no exceptional sax player on the world stage, but Botti is indisputably a master of his instrument. Yes Botti is more commercially orientated than most, yet his most recent studio album shines as a highly successful blend of jazz and classical traditions. On this video one can hear real passion AND respect for the jazz tradition in his playing; K. G has no such qualities audible in his music

  • @chwjts Crass tone. He's unlistenable when you have a plethora of legitimate musicians to choose from. It is not good enough to respect the jazz tradition, you need to be a part of shaping it.

  • @chwjts Well said! Botti is musician at the level of Davis. Much of what people think of as Jazz today really only belongs on a shopping mall Muzak channel.

  • @KrummyBear this is very true

  • this rendition sounds very good to me actually> Cannot see why others would complain about it - and i speak as a jazz musician as well.

  • GET IN MY PANTS. He's absolutely amazing.

  • Very nice...

  • Can people just enjoy the music instead of criticizing it?

  • Ah, of course Miles Davis was the legend; always will be. And clearly Chet Baker was deeply inspirational...but there is no point for comparison here. Botti has done a very different thing and he is extremely versatile. You feel him whether he is doing swing jazz or Latin jazz -you just can't that outstanding craft he has acquired. So there was a Miles and a Chet. That was them and it was then. Why can't we have a Chris Botti or a Wynton Marsalis now? Chris is just solidifying, he has a lot to

  • Late, late evening here. Black outside. Night is coming. I'm after shower, just in my pyjamas. So clean and fresh, and listening to this amazing music. It's so erotic... Only missing a guy to make love to....

  • @Utsu Are you a guy just trying to get a rise out of all of youtube?

  • @cyclysm748 Are you a girl trying to get a rise out all of youtube? COME ON....

  • @Utsu And where does one find an application form? :-)

  • Una de las melodías más bellas en la historia del jazz.

    C. Botti, ha logrado una vez más que destaque su esencia, su indiscutible belleza, con una maestria digna de un gran m,úsico y artista.

    Un saludo,

    Elsa

  • I cann´t describe in words what I can feel when I listen this song...Just can say "wooooowww"" he is amazing.

  • good

  • chris botti has the look of a man who is exactly where he wants to be

  • funny taste...

  • Trumpet playing is a artist who paints , some have days when they use a few colors other days they may use many colors it's all art to compare a watefall to a landscape painted in oil ,why would you, Either you like it or you don't it's still art.. one more thing... Learning to play trumpet is the hardest to master it takes about 3 to 5 years just to understand it. Many have tryed and many have quit. P.s. This video is from Ramey Lewis Show on PBS

  • COOL JAZZ E BEST OF

    LEONARDO JAZZ MASTER

  • Not going to lie his high range is not that good.

  • Went to high school with him, Crescent Valley, OR..........Class of 1981.........Though we didn't know each other.

  • thank you for the upload

  • Why are people praising Chris Botti like this? He's not a beautiful man. His playing is incredible, he's great at the trumpet, but the guy is a douche.

  • @Shawnieboy33 lol why is he a douche?

  • @Shawnieboy33 just put this out there the king of Jazz Saxophone was a bit of a douche himself... Charlie parker... but he was still the king of bebop style... so they may have attitude problems they are still great

  • i love the botti and the legen chest baker are uniques!!!!

  • Chris Botti is one of the best trumpet players out there today. How can 40 people dislike this? Must be deaf!

  • I would never say that he's almost 50.

And he play it great ;) Eh..

  • Saw Miles Davis in the mid '60s...too much attitude for me...this is just sweet surrender.

  • In my opinion this is the best video on the entire of Youtube. It sent shivers through my whole body. This is music.

  • I love Chris botti. he is my idol!!!

I am playing a ballad, please check it out I worked so hard on it!

  • I swear, everytime I listen to this, my heart beats faster!

  • this to this with another youtube video with the sound of ocean waves crashing against the sand and close you're eyes...., thumbs up if you got chills

  • @SanguineBullet667 that sounds kinda gay.

Hahahaha, I'm just joking with you. no offense, promise.

  • @TheClolk

    that sounds kinda stupid.

Hahahaha, I'm just joking with you. no offense, promise.

  • Another good version of My funny valentine, but some people treat it as an elevator music. I think the reason is that Chris Botti doesn't have "the sorrows"?? in his music like Chet Baker. I can't tell exactly what that is, but I can feel it from Chet's. Anyway Chris is a good jazz musician!!

  • 40 people didn't have a valentine this year :(

  • Just another disguise by Barney to get laid...

I think it might work this time

  • does anyone else think chris botti looks like neil patrick harris from how i met your mother?

  • very very nice good sound, i m a singer can you visit my new video my funny valentine...

  • 近來聽到,有些覺得田馥甄不錯。

  • Good tone...........................

  • Man u have great talent and your music is awsome :D:D:D

    BIg fan of yours

  • Gorgeous, the man and his music!

  • I think I just fell in love!

  • He sounds like Miles and Herb Alpert rolled into one. Chet is great and so is Chris Botti. Hope he continues to stretch out his chops.

  • 3:54 is awesome

  • ypu must know that this song was composed by Chet Baker

  • @ramsesxv The actual song was not composed by Chet... It was composed in the 30s for a Broadway play. Chet was the first one to record it, even before Ella Fitzgerald.

  • Yay for Large bore martin committees!!

  • wow.... speechless i mean this is music to just dine with.

  • maestro... Profesaror...

sera que podemos crear una muy feliz valentine

con (0) sstress para la usb...

    gracias,,...

    espero saber de usted ?

  • Each day is valentine's day when you have the opportunity to listen to music like this. So stirring. My live jazz jones is really coming down. Montreal, Montreux, and Rotterdam I'm heading your way this summer.

  • I met him today!(:

hehehehehe. He's sooo nice and even better in concert(:

  • I'll give Botti his tender and delicate tone and execution. But that's all he's been confined to, almost throughout his career. Roy's version of this with his big band alone encompasses all grounds as far as versatility, on top of matching, if not exceeding Botti's tender tone.

  • this is incredibly legit, I don't know any jazzer who can't dig this

  • @otmq He just played the head.

  • i love chris botti

  • I love Chris Botti¡¡¡

  • THIS IS SEX....ya THINK? Im sure that sweet seduction would be a better suited description...LOVE! Cheers Aly

  • I love it!!!!!

  • I love the pianist more

  • just outstanding!!!!

  • Happy Valentines GUys!

  • Willie Pickens is the man!

  • merveilleux

    very very nice

    merci pour le partage

    kiss

  • God if I could marry that sound...

  • WOW love it

  • This is sex.

  • all guitarists and musicians alike MUST give these musicians mad props, they truly deserve it

  • all guitarists and musicians alike MUST give these musicians mad props, the truly deserve it

  • for me personaly, still and always, no matter what or who, chet bakers version of my funny valentine stays unique and outstanding above all till today, but chris botti is something different, but definitely something god and he does it in a very destinctive and "right" way, much better than christian scott, who puts to much effort in things which should be done in a very smooth and rich manner

  • @heraclo12 agreed

  • He does not compare to many other trumpet players,

If you dont believe me listen to what Roy Hargrove played on this same program

Makes Chris Botti look like the second trumpet of a high school marching band.

  • @deepfriedpankakes It's sad that this video has literally 10 times more views than Roy's Invitation video.

  • @deepfriedpankakes I watched it. The songs are two different styles. Chris' careful. tender tone in this song is as appropriate as Roy's fat, peppy tone in his song. I didn't hear anything that I haven't heard Chris do something similar to. Technical ability comes second in Jazz. Emotion and expression come first. It's not a competition.

  • This is really beautiful.

  • WOW. I'm playin this in jazz band this year and i play a lot of the song as a solo on alto sax. Holy jeez do I suck compared to this guy!!!!

  • I think the best Title for this music will be "Don't Cry Baby Take it Easy".

  • Chris Botti is so damn sexy! I love his music!

  • So he can play the melody, intersperse it with a few tasteless flourishes and lo! another celebrity is born.:)

  • Dear haters: If you all prefer Miles, Chet, Clifford, Roy, or Freddie, GO TO THEIR PAGES AND LISTEN TO THEM. Why waste your time listening to (and commenting on) music you don't enjoy?

    P.S.

You think this is polished and not spontaneous? Listen to the album version. Its completely different.

  • This is one of my favorite songs, but this man just blows me away, he is just, words cannot discribe, SEXY.. that says it all.. I am sure alot of you have to agree..

  • Unfortunately as harsh as the comments are ... they are very discerning. With Chet and Miles (and I think Roy as well as countless other authentic jazz players) what you get is very different every night, music extemporized on the spot at that time with that group with 'that' feel. Chris is about a rehearsed and (overly?) polished performance and therefore you don't see the process of musical creation ... as was said good technique polished lines and licks, but nothing spontaneous.

  • It was nice, but I didn't feel any soul in his playing. I mean, he has technique but he reminds me a lot of how miles played.

Good technique, but to my ears really no soul. Don't get me wrong, he is a talented musician, but he is surely not a legend.

    R.I.P Chet Baker

  • @Drjrecordz haters gonna hate.

  • @shoegazer666

how does a sincere, constructively critical opinion constitute as hate.... loosen up

  • @ragglefraggle09 haters gonna hate.

  • @shoegazer666

    lol'd

  • compared to Chet this sucks big style! No amount of flashy chops and high notes can make up for lack of real feeling and soul, its just above elevator muzak.

  • @57dogsbody Nothing(!!!!!) compares to Chet and Miles David.

  • Comment removed

  • @SungHa Enjoy both as unique expressions of the same wonderful song coming from two great musicians.. rather than being a tool and showing a sense of elitism in implying that the superior choice (in your highly acclaimed opinion?) is Miles. Individuals that judge and openly insult, even if on accident, a musician for how he chooses to express himself are disgusting.

  • Not a big fan of trumpet when I popped in - this gets me thinking. Great skill, range of tones, creativity to keep it interesting and a very beautiful piece. Niiiice :)

  • ughhh... his control makes me wanna barf in the best way possible.

  • just close my eyes and drift away

  • 33 people missed the like button

  • Willie Pickens rule in his intro! Gotta love a soulful style!

  • на 2-25 .... у меня мурашки по коже побежали

  • 3:54 is awesome!

  • Chris Botti is the most beautiful man I've ever seen in my life... Ever...

  • @KyivMar that's why he's a sell out

  • @KyivMar You haven't seen me yet, lol...happy 2011!

  • zzzzzzzz

  • yuck

  • Sigh.....

  • Happy Birthday Mr.Botti

  • He reminds me of Miles Davis. However, what he does with the high notes are really his own. Splendid! Great pianist and drummer as well. I got to know him through Sting's music. I wish the two would make a jazz album. Although, I think Sting kind of lost the feeling, his voice is still perfect for it.

  • I want Beth to come over and make out with me while I play this music..............

  • i live for this kinda music :)

  • remarkable trumpte

  • - Grazie LEGENDSOFJAZZ è bellissimo.

  • @pinosoprano

Interamente sono d'accordo con voi, questa canzone sono assolutamente bello.

  • I saw him the first time when he came here last year. My Husband took meas a last minute surprise and the night was just magical. What topped it off is Chris Botti came into the audience and played this song to me. Think what you might but it brought tears to my eyes. He is a magician with music. He will forever be, to me, one of the greatest Jazz Legends.

  • @farieanne what a wonderful world

  • I am grateful for artists, like Chris, who share their gift with the world. You may be able to teach a person to play a musical instrument; however, the passion while performing can only come from within. Chris has that, and sooooo much more! Bravo! Bravo!

  • Amazing Sound!

  • Go to one of his concerts, close your eyes and listen...

  • WOW! CHRIS IS UNDUBTEDLY A GREAT PERFORMER, AND SUCH A SPOTLESS ARTIST, BUT HERE I WNAT TO OUTSTAND THE FANTASTIC, GRACEFUL AND NICE PLAYING OF THE PIANIST....

I'D WISH I'D COUL BE HIS STUDENT......

THE WHOLE BAND IS A BLESSING....

  • I have a bowl Chris hand painted for a charity auction. It's perdy sexy too. ha ha

  • super performance by Chris and the piano player Ramsey Lewis looking in on them

  • zzz

  • Awsome. new to chris botti but wow what an amazing sound, perfect, smooth jazz..

  • kenny g played music, for me to poop on. I no keed I no keed.

    Botti's way better.

  • Wow, I didn't Niles Crane could play the trumpet! lol

  • @ilikejohncalvin
