  • einfach fantastisch

  • GIGANTISCH! Kann nicht genug davon kriegen!

    BRAVA!

  • Is matched only by the version of Lucia Popp, amazing!

  • WOW! Was für eien Stimme! Aber diese unvorteilhaften Kostüme!

  • This performance of Damrau is at once more approachable and more violently twisted than the more famous ensemble version. Great acoustics too.

  • THAT WAS BRILLIANT WORK!!! Excellent acting and SUPERIOR vocal skills... Danke... for sharing...

  • Terrible suit, but the acting and singing is heavenly.

  • The file is corrupted. And the production horrible.

  • @AnArtistEnraged maybe broccoli is uber hot in germany

  • @voraistos Damrau is German... but Salzburg is (nowadays...) in Austria. Servus!

  • What a strange production.

  • Not only have they turned her into a vegetable, but they also decide to put her back into the earth like a vegetable... lovely -_-

  • Super! Eine tolle Sängerin!

  • best performence on youtube of this song

  • Not perfect. Slurring the triplets and inappropriate breath at 4:58. Got her self worked up a little bit during the performance I think.

What do you mean, could I do better?? HELL NO!!!

    What a wonderful artist!

  • @AnArtistEnraged

    Well, I love green. I love it! :) She's grand anyway ...

  • the great performance starts @ 2:49 ;-)

  • Mozart is the greatest, I love him!

The only sad thing: youtube had a very bad quality in the past. But now: when you load up the video not in youtube-modus but in much bigger file, at the end the video will become very much better.

But instead of that this video is suuuuper nice!

If you like, look at this example in HD: "Mozart - Zauberflöte - aufgeführt von OPERA CLASSICA"

    Thanks and nice greatings,

    Rolf Bormuth

  • @bonsherah excellent taste.. this is one of my favourites.. he was so ahead of his time.. politically out there but in a very subversive way... incredible talent and style... just breathtaking..

  • tottally different from her Covent Garden production...

  • I love watchin her act... she is the queen of the night... sooooooooooo beautiful

  • EXCITING!!!

  • I think it's unfortunate that people think that culture is something you can have "more" or "less" of.

  • camp

  • amazing...but it is not enough for her.

  • I think what's great about this operetta is that the plot and the drama is simple enough that the audience doesn't have to fight to understand. Whether your "poor, uncultured," or "ignorant".

Diana Damrau is a complete force that is amazing to watch and listen to.

  • 4:15 ahgahghahahahah

  • she´s the best Queen of the night I listend!!!!

  • Her voice is very beautiful, but not as pure as Patricia Petibon's, and the interpretation is too slow (compared with Miklósa's, for example).

But the colour and the scene is... very... funny =)

    The great green singing broccoli...

    Sorry, laughing...

No, it's true : she has a very beautiful voice, but I find she keep too much her feelings...

  • That green dress is awful.

But the singing is so... awesome.

  • @AnArtistEnraged just the one they did celebrating 250 anniversary of Mozart's birth in Salzburg...preak.

  • How you can make someone so good looking look like the Jolly Green Giant is beyond me.

  • EXCELLENT

  • what?! at 4:58 she takes a breath!

  • @TheHanipo It happens to the best of us. Even super human singers like Damrau are allowed to be less than perfecf on occasion. If she ran out of breath, what was she to do? Stop?! On stage you do what you have to do sometimes. She may have been compensated somehow and still had to sing the role.

  • In 3:33 you have this endless beautiful melody... it shows clearly Mozart ingeniousness.

  • Alle Bande der Natur ♪ ♫ XD

  • Ms. Damrau knows how to give me the chills. The sheer power in her voice...amazing.

  • So excellent performances!!!. Cheers!!!, Sergio.

  • this is a bad bass Queen of the Night

  • Wow, this performance is way better than Damrau's 2003 in regards of acting. The costumes are better in 2003, though. Singing... I'd say almost the same precious voice. XD

  • astonishing!

  • You know her larynx was on fire after this....great singing as always

  • ITs hard to keep attention when you dont understand the language. Just think of the voice and words as another abstract instrument and find the emotional overtone. But with great arias like this one it never matters. I love this one from the first time i heard it. I still dont know what the Doll Song is about, but i love it.

  • EINZIGARTIG....

  • beautiful, but she breathed in the middle of the long run. granted the conductor is taking this slower than molasses....

  • I saw some comments about people who think Opera is boring are poor. Lol

I do not really like it that much But I don't think it is boring

And what is that dress she is wearing T.T

  • Comment removed

  • Diana i love you so much, please come to Split in Croatia

  • @Lindoron Really I don't like opera at all... but i just love this aria... this and the habanera from "Carmen" are the only opera pieces i like...

Sorry for my english... iI'm mexican

  • Women should not be directors - then it becomes this abstract (excause my language) bullshit! Damrau is lovely, even if the director is a philistine!

  • although most points in this performance weren't as good as the video labeled "Diana Damrau as Queen of the Night II" i love how she goes down into the depths of hell at the end, that is priceless. Brocoli goes to hell when it dies after all.

  • this is good but her other version is better.. she looks like she's wearing a cabbage for a costume..

  • This Performance Touches Stone.

  • That's the best performance as Queen of the night

  • Shes outstanding. But this costume is ridiculous.

  • reminds me of my mom

    .

  • her acting is amazing its like a bat flying out of hell .. she scared me.

  • Could someone tell me the context of this scene. I know that the song is about the Queen of the Night telling her daughter to kill her father right?

  • @betteronbrunettes not really, the queen of the night ask her saughter to kill Sarastro, it´s really complicated to understand if you don´t see the opera and inclusive more complicate if you don´t speak german. But basically in the song, The queen of the night tell her daughter to kill Sarastro or Pamina will not be her daughter anymore. Ok, I hope this help you, Auf widersehen.

  • Nice singer, nice interpretation, I loved the way she looks at her daugher.

  • ups, got too high

  • Natalie Dessay is much better but, this isn't bad at all

  • Those who think Opera is boring are 'projecting' THEIR OWN 'uninteresting, uncreative drabness' onto this magnificent craft. Not everyone can be cultured & have class. Unfortunately, the poor, uncultured & ignorant will always be among us.

  • @SingerForLife3000 here here

    totally agree

  • @SingerForLife3000 the un-cultured are poor are they?

  • @scarlett52x My bad. Money does not equal Class.

  • @SingerForLife3000 Danke xoxo

  • @SingerForLife3000

those who think opera is boring just have a different taste in music.

  • @SingerForLife3000 who ever assumes people who dont like opera are unintelligent and uninteresting is them selves an ignorant dinosaur. not everyone has to like what you like. that being said, this is brilliant.

  • @JKCWvids This is still a free country, there4, I have a right 2 MY OWN OPINIONS. It's MY OPINION that those who don't like Opera are less creative & uninteresting. Perhaps I should've preferenced my statement this way, however, MOST would ASSUME that this is MY OPINION. As 2 whether or not I'm a "dinasaur," or not ... as U say... well, the jury's still out on THAT one. But, the last I checked, the "dinasaur" was exstinct. There4, Ur statement is just plain "not accurate."

  • @SingerForLife3000 No wonder people are scared to learn or discuss Opera. Some people just never get the chance to be exposed to Opera like others never get exposed to Rap music. Both are valid forms of expressions and to think one is superior to another is being just as ignorant as those you dislike.

  • @riplie83 Again: It's a free country, therefore I, like U, am free to express my opinion. Whether or not that makes me "ignorant," as U assume, may be YOUR opinion, but it does not make it FACT, nor TRUTH. Also, I never spoke of "superiority," nor did I say I don't "like" those who don't appreciate Opera, I have associates who do not like this craft. Therefore, it appears that U are somewhat ARROGANT 2 make such a blanket statement about me, without knowing fully what U're talking about.

  • @SingerForLife3000 and those who think they are picture themselves as despising, condescending and arrogant people. what's better?

  • @tara8686 This comment makes absolutely no sense to me.

  • @SingerForLife3000 elitist much?

  • wow!

  • So this is the broccolli dress! hahahahaha XD

  • @Asunlight17 jajajajajajaja

  • 3:33

  • jkajka all those years didn't went by, like if nothing had happened throw her voice... anyway, the funniest thing is that her outfit look like have been made of the grass that was outside of the theater xD She just ripped out of the floor and put it all over her jejeje. Just a little joke.

  • I like this night queen costume better than most.

  • brava! wow!

  • have a look at 3:19 - 3:20

Is it playback or my eyes has gone?

  • @darwinism14 i was wondering about that. Her mouth barely opens but we hear that full note. i don't think it's playback though

  • Mozart is a genius, his music dances in ensemble with each note progression. And I agree with oneworldguy's post. The Covent Garden queen of night aria.....I've been listening to opera for quite some years and I will have to say, Diana Damrau probably sang that aria as good as anyone else in the history of opera, if not better. It is simply breathtaking.

  • C adelanto! D:

  • Diana is one of the best singing this aria; that's quite obvious!

  • @SAS6638

Deswegen hast dus angehört oder? haha

  • her speech is harsher than her other video. it makes the song seem almost gentle by comparison

  • convent garden....way better....

  • IS it just me or does this seem a little slower than usual?

  • I like listen Diana Damrau! She is Perfect!

  • Ungluckliche... where's the "tochter?" Why would the director cut that word?

  • I get chills! SO GOOD. Opera rules.

  • This impossible aria is made even harder by the slow tempo. My God. It just shows how good her stamina and control is

  • What an exit!

  • the best is Miss Edda Moser ever!!!

    the best voice...

  • Apparently she was ill that day!!

I saw her in Coven garden and almost die...............what a voice!!she is singing in a high F......people who understand music.........will know the difficulty to keep that high notes!!!

    Genial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Too bad she has to breath at 4.59 in this great phase... but it's AMAZING!

    I love the phase 5.02-5.12 *__*

  • @emproft

BUT SHE WOULD HAVE DIED IF SHE DIDN'T BREATHE YOU CRAZY MAN!

  • @ml497 first: well, others can do it...

    second: I am a woman.

  • I agree! WHY GREEN??? But still a fiery song and an amazing singer

  • why green?????? O_o

  • S H E definitly i s t h e Queen

  • Who is Pamina?

  • the Queen's daughter, I believe

  • Ha ha ha, yes... I mean, who's the singer?

  • @ejrouge Looks like Genia Kühmeier.

  • Damrau IS the Queen of the Night.

  • speaking in a low chest voice sounds inconsistent, to me, with a character whose domain is the highest of the heights of voice. It does not sound more "real acting" to me, just inconsistent, and I hear it approached that way a lot in videos here. Her singing is a fiery delight.

  • True Queen!

  • ¡¡BRAVO Diana!!, excelsa, espectacular, me pongo de pie, bravo.

  • Einfach toll!!!

  • OK. There are still people, who think, that Opera is boring. But they have never heard this aria.

  • @Lindoron .......I think everyone's heard this aria, or at least that one part. You know which one.

  • @Lindoron

    ..

    what aria? this one only?!

    ..

and "Bei Mannern, welche Liebe fühlen"? and.. the whole Die Zauberflöte is one of the best operas ever written.

    ..

It's comprehensible that someone may found very strange Rheingold of Wagner (because it needs your concentration), but The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte) is beautiful for everyone, wise and moron living on this Earth.

  • @Lindoron P_eople who do not understand Opera do no know what they are missing!

  • @Lindoron So everyone, in all the world, who's un-cultured..... is poor? xoxo

  • @Lindoron

I am a lover of opera but I honestly think "Der Hölle Rache" storywise is one of the most boring operas. Musically... it's great but not bellamissa. Though do not forget that opinions and opera are related due to acquired taste. Some people hate Handel's "Guilio Cesare" (indeed the words are VERY repetative) or Bizet's Carmen... but hey. Not everyone is the same... how boring life would be

  • @Lindoron

"Die Zauberflöte" not "Der Hölle Rache"... meh

  • @dangmills ..and it originally was not considered an opera but rather a Singspiel - A Singspiel (German literally meaning "song-play") (plural: Singspiele) is a form of German-language music drama, once considered a separate form but now according to Wikipedia regarded as a genre of opera. It was produced in the language of the people and meant as entertainment for the masses rather than the upper class.

  • @wheimer2

Well, the masses today like stuff I can't stand as it's musically boring... ppl must've been more distinguished back then ;)

  • @Lindoron Oh, common,

even I, a great fan of oprea, know that oprea can be Boaring, aspecialy if you don't understand the language, so be forgiving.

Even so, you are correct, Motzart Knew how to write great solo parts :D (Arias)

    Oprea Rocks

  • WOW!

  • eine wahre königin der nacht!

  • Blew me off my socks :D

  • wow O.o

  • Grande. Magnifica!

Da denkt wieder mal jemand, man müsse jeden Ton klingen lassen. Soa Schmarn! Musik wirkt, wenn sie nachklingt!!!

  • she portrays pure evil looking beautiful too and I love her voice reminding me vaguely of Cristina Deutekom in the coloraturas

    Ganz tolle Stimme, einfach wahnsinn

  • I've watched the other video of her singing this song a million times. This is the first time i've seen this but it still has that amazing effect even though she sung it so differently!!

  • i would wear that outfit everyday!

  • we love Damrau! i disagree with comparisons with Covent G, version, while CG is visually funkier (i'm not sure 'night' is meant to look as pure evil), and faster - which is in line with nowadays (better) ideas of Mozart's 'real tempo' - this version requires higher level of vocal control .. all the notes are there and need to be sung, but the delivery is much more exposed, more delicate...

i prefer faster Mozart but this particular aria (sung SO well in both versions) makes one wonder..

  • sie ist genial

  • she sings perfectly.

  • @szepremenyu

You're right! Although I'm able to sing correctly it's horribly difficult to strike the right note while singing that fast!

Perhaps it's only that difficult when your voice is changing in the puberty...???

  • she's doing this with larengytis!

  • get out of town. really? her speaking voice sounds like it a bit, but to pull that off..... no way !

  • In this video she acts well, but her singing... mh is not as good as the one in her most famous video on Youtube...

  • yes!

  • i am not impressed

  • Watch her performance in the Covent Garden production. It is titled as "Diana Damrau as Queen of the Night II" on youtube. Same song, different tempo, entirely different costume and set design. In that version, she is like something raised out of hell. Evil in its purest form.

In this Salzburg production, she's kinda' like a vengeful woman who broke out of a mental instutition and bought her outfit from the produce section of the grocery market.

The other version is the best!

  • @oneworldguy Agree!! :)
