I have made this soap before but with fels naptha. The problem I had with it was: it would gel in the bottle I put it in and I couldn't get it out. I solved the problem by putting the soap in the blender and then pouring it in the bottle. I love it.
FYI Bexar, We followed your "recipe" 3+ months ago. The wife and I have used it ever since!! I don't think we'll be going back. We are going to use up what we have and stick with the "recipe". The clothes come out just as clean!! Thanks for the tip and all the work!!
I've been using a homemade washing powder with just Baking Soda (regular kind in the orange box), Borax, and grated ivory/kirk's/ or fels naptha, in equal parts. Works great!
thanks for this recipe! i've been making my own laundry soap for a few years, but your's uses fewer ingredients and makes twice as much!!! wow! mine says to only use borax, if you have a regular septic system, but if not, then to use baking soda, instead. do you know if i could get away with using a more natural bar soap, such as dr. bronner's bar soap? i can no longer stand to smell regular laundry soaps. they smell toxic to me. great videos! thank you!!!
@swallertheredpill yes you sure can the more natural the soap the better it gets and stays gelled. I just finished my 10 gallons and it stayed in gel form the entire time what 9 months. Blessings!
I just made a batch from a very similar recipe given to me by a friend. How did you get it into the bottles? I'm about to try to put it in containers but mine came out really thick.
@breebrad312 It Will maintain for about 2years. I have just emptied this bucket so A family of 3about 1year of soap. The recipe makes 10 gallons diluted or a 5 gallon bucket just use 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup for heavy soiled clothing. I leave it in the 5 gallon bucket and just refill an old laundry jug. Blessings!
Hi, I was wondering if I need to add bleach to my white clothes still if using this soap mixture, or if this is not necessary. I'm not sure if there is any bleach in any of the ingredients. thanks
@Alina674 I actually find that I don't have to use bleach but it's not because bleach is in any of the ingredients. The borax is a laundry detergent enhancer and helps to break down minerals and soften the water. Blessings!
Hey all; if your having trouble finding the Washing Soda, go to an Hispanic store. That is where I found my box of A&H Washing Soda. The ZOTE is made in Mexico, along w/a large selection of powdered laundry products. Give it a try, and let us know how you did.
BexarPrepper; a short report here. I looked all over town for the Super Washing Soda w/no luck. Went to AZ for Christmas, went to a store to buy a Tamale Pot, and there in the Laundry section sits Super Washing Soda. My son made a batch from Skybirds recipe + 1/2 cup Oxy Clean. My daughter-in-law loved the results in her HE washer.
I just now finished my batch, and the wife will try it out tomorrow. I shared the recipe with the clerk from HomeDepot. He is going to make his wife a batch too.
I watched this video 2 nights ago, told my wife about it who then told our daughter. You won't believe the response. Everyone now wants the recipe so now we're going to give it a try. Word of mouth is almost like radio, the word spreads.
Many thanks to you and Skybird for making this video available.
@MrGVFan you Will love it. Also for fabric softener take a gallon of vinager and some fragrance tad work wonderful even in Texas hard water. Blessings!
@MrGVFan white vinager. I have been testing it for 6 months wanted to make sure it didn't ruin my clothing before I shared with my viewers. But it has passed the test and I love it. Blessings!
@BexarPrepper, thank you for the fast reply. We use vinegar for many household applications. I thought we had it all covered till the mentioning of it's use as a Fabric Softener. We will be giving it a try in this area too.
Vinegar, has to be one of the best all around items to have in every home. I put approx 1/3 C or more Apple Cider Vinegar into a Gal. of water. It's very satisfing, quenches my thirst fast.
Just wondering how this works in a H.E. washer. MIne is still under warranty, and I don't want to void it. Thanks for all you do, Bexar. We sure appreciate you more than you will ever know.
@welschica It works better than store purchased soap. No scum or soap lines. It is also low suds so it's great for front end loaders. I love it. I no longer dilute it with another 5 gallons of water I just use 1/4 cup per load as is. Just don't put it directly on clothes using undiluted (concentrated) soap. Blessings!
Do you hang your clothes out to dry or use a dryer? I have been making our laundry soap now for over a year, I love the savings! I have never seen Zote soap, would like to try it sometime. I use either Fels Naptha laundry bar soap with is .97 or Kirks Castile which is around $1.40 a bar. I make both liquid and powder soap. Love your videos, hubby and I watch them when they come out! Susan Cravatt, Matthews wife =D
@MatthewCravatt the only difference I've seen between felsnafta and zote soap is the zote gels up much better. I wish I could hang my clothes but I don't have a fenced yard in town and they would disappear like my veggies do. Don't mind the vanishing veggies to much but I'm sure missing clothes would not make me very happy. Blessings!
Does anyone's goo gel separate from a more liquid soap in their 5 gallon bucket? I just scoop 3/4 c into the washer; washes great. Is it supposed to maintain the goo/gel quality? Our garage is hot and humid. When I stirred it, it goo/gelled back together; but then just separated again. Did I do something wrong?
Thanks for the video. I have a question. Is there any reason against leaving it in the 5 gallon bucket and just using a half of cup of gelatinous goo? Seems to me this would be easier. Thanks again.
Ok,washing soad as most of you know is PH+ pool ph raiser.Same thing.Or sada ash is the same too.Just different names for super washing soda.I have a question.I generally use fels naptha. But tried the pink Zote this time.It took forever to melt, and even then I had to ladle out the watery part and kept the clupmpy pink soap heating.Finely it melted but I also had to pour it through a strainer and scrape the rest through. Is it just me?Or does your all's melt completely? Thanks.
Our Walmart has the washing soda and the FelsNaptha by the fabric softener, not the detergents. The Zote soap is over by the bulk laundry detergent on the other end of the isle. Hope this helps. Took me forever to find the washing soda---not where I would have thought.
I have been using this recipe for about 6 months now. My husbands skin issues have gone. I use the fels naptha. I dont even want to imagine how much money ive thrown away on laundry soap over the years. I love the clean no scent smell.. and youre right.. no static cling. I had to get used to the no suds thing.. but it cleans like crazy.
I loved your video it was wonderful to see you actually do it and what it was suppose to look like. I live in TN have been to 3 stores can't find the same Super Washing Soda..... any suggestions? Thanks
@MegaJackielynn Thank you. I know they have it online try amazon. I bet your just not looking in the right place try where they have the RIT dyes. Blessings!
@MegaJackielynn If you have not yet found the washing soda! Do you have an Ace or True Value hardware near you? if you do call them if they dont have it they will order it in for you.... you can then purchase as little or as much of the case they get in as you like
While you are at the grocery store, stop by the bakery dept., let the other customers go first then ask if they have any 5 gallon buckets ready to recycle, they will go get what they have and give them to you including the lids with the gaskets. They are food grade buckets that were used for icing.
Hi Bexar; just made my second batch of laundry soap.. turned out great.. My first batch I handed out three gallons to my daughters, and they all three loved it and have made their own batches now.. and yep, it works great all over the house... I just love your channel.. thanks for making the vids.. brightest blessings to you and yours....
@jensage58 You welcome. I just made some fabric softener and I love it and it's so easy. One gallon of white vinager and one of those little bottles of fragrance oils they sell in the candle isle at walmart. It is amazing and so cheap. Blessings!
I live in SA. I also make my own soap but I have to order the washing soda online because I can't find it anywhere. Did you buy your washing soda locally?
thanks for sharing. Could you please send me the correct spelling for person that you got the recipe from, i'd like to check out their channel. Thank you
I just finished using my first batch of laundry detergent. I was able to wash all of my clothes for a month for only about $3. That is amazing. I came back to get the recipe, I forgot to write it down. God bless and have a happy 4th.
@PerceptionModified Happy 4th to you and yours. Glad you liked it. I love it. I did end up picking up a pair of those bumpy balls (not sure what they are called) for the dryer to help fluff by I no longer use dryer sheets either. Blessings!
@PerceptionModified they can be found in just about any store, I have even seen them in grocery stores. Her's what they look like amazon(dot)com/As-Seen-On-TV-Dryer/dp/B000BOBM8O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1309794647&sr=8-3
Hi bexar.. I just made some this Monday, and I am totally sold.. it turned out fantastic .. and worked just as good as you said it would on cloths.. I also found out by happy accident that it works great to use in the kitchen as a cleaner for counters, fridge, and stove.. also floor.. next I am going to see how well it works in the bathroom.. Thank you so much for posting this.. oh and your cloths do come out soft with no dryer sheets or softener...
@jensage58 So glad you found it useful. I have tried it on the counters but didn't think about the floors. I may have to give it a shot. I'm tempted to try it in the dishwasher since it is low suds but waiting till I feel like cleaning up a mess just in case. Blessings!
You can also make this up dry and not mess w/all the goo and take up so much space on your floor by grating your soap, then throwing it in a food processor to grate it up finer...then put all the ingredients in a plastic container w/a lid. Use 1/4 c scoop per wash. To make it a liquid just mix your 1/4 c scoop detergent in a cup of hot water and stir. Does not leave a residue on clothes & dry stores up in smaller container out of the way. No gelatinous mess to stir.
I have got all my ingredients and will start making it tonight. Will this sour? Just wondering if I need to make a smaller batch to avoid throwing any away. Thanks for sharing and thanks to skybird. God bless.
we are making this soap this weekend, was told it suds less as well. Since I use gray water for our lawn I thought that it probally is less harsh there as well ( My part of Tx is in drought situation at this point)
Hey, I just wanted to let ya all know that the Arm & Hammer Powder is sold no where in my area, so I went on their web site and if you spend $20 they give you free shipping. I then filled out the page to get free on line coupons. I bought 8 boxes for $16.00 with no shipping charges..it will be here in 5 days right to my frount door. Cant beat that!! Take care and God bless!
I went out today and bought the Fels-Naptha and the Borax..but I am having a heck of a time finding the Arm&Hammer here in Oregon. Is there a substitute I could use insted?? This Is so awsome and am excited to try it ASAP. Keep the Videos comming. GOD BLESS!!!
@sookiegirl97381 Walmart, Lowe's, HomeDepot or Check here armandhammer(dot)com/Products/WhereToBuy.aspx Or call their toll free number Call us toll-free at 1-800-524-1328 Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM ET.
When I made mine I only used boiled water from the kettle in the bucket and the shredded bar soap melted fine. I used Sunlight bar soap I found at Walmart. I had to pay $10 for the Washing Soda because it wasn't available locally, I got it off ebay. Doing this 6 months ago I'm still using my 1st 5 gallon bucket, great money saving tip!
Got my Zote last night from Walmart for $0.97 a bar and a 5 gal bucket for $2.50 (something) and a lid for $0.67. Ironically I have the A&H washing powder but never used it. I dont have the borax. I will have to get that this weekend. They were out of it a Walmart. As soon as I use up my commercial laudry soap I will try this. Can't wait!
@mamaj1013 I got all my stuff @ walmart I called ahead and was told to ask for the girl from Mo when I got there and she had a basket with my stuff already in the basket. I did some extra shopping and headed home. @ wally world it was on the laundry soap aisle but not something we ever have used so we walked past this stuff for years never knowing how easy it is to save money. Thanks for this video it is one thing to get instruction another to watch it step by step.
@danac352 they have it at Publix. I live in Southeast Florida and it is the only place I have found it, in the aisle with the laundry detergent, they sell Fels naptha also.
I got the stuff I have the other soap felds nafta IDK the spelling but I have all the stuff and my procrastination is getting the better of me I need to just brew a batch because that is really cheap makes you want to make a bunch and go sell it to the people doing laundry at the coin op but give them the recepie so they could save tons of $ too.
Neat! I saw this somewhere online as well- but that person did not add water. She just mixed it all together dry and scoops out a few tablespoons when its laundry time. I wonder what the difference is. I haven't tried it yet because I don't know where to buy the bar soap. Thanks!!
I just bought the ingredients to make this soap. Since it's very humid where I live I was afraid the powders would clump up before I get around to using it all so I measured out enough soda and borax for a batch and sealed each batch in plastic bags. In case anyone is interested, for each 76 oz. box of Borax, you need three 55 oz. boxes of Soda and 18 bars of soap to make it all work out evenly.
tkx for the shout out... :-) hope you love this as much as i do... keep meaning to do an update vid... will have to get to that... i find i still have static electricity... but the clothes are much softer... :-)
This is something I haven't done. I meant to pick up the supplies needed for it this week when I was in the city, but forgot. Will try soon. Thanks a lot.

@PerceptionModified Mine hasn't yet and I don't believe it will because the ingredients contain bleach. Blessings!

Can you keep this stored in the 5 gallon bucket (with the cover of coarse) in the garage until you need to refill the laundry bottles again?
Thanks

Hey, I just wanted to let ya all know that the Arm & Hammer Powder is sold no where in my area, so I went on their web site and if you spend $20 they give you free shipping. I then filled out the page to get free on line coupons. I bought 8 boxes for $16.00 with no shipping charges..it will be here in 5 days right to my frount door. Cant beat that!! Take care and God bless!

@sookiegirl97381 I'm so glad that worked out!
BexarPrepper 10 months ago
I had to use Ivory soap instead of the pink that you used. It last forever. You can't beat the price. When you make your own.
Allen2045 10 months ago
I went out today and bought the Fels-Naptha and the Borax..but I am having a heck of a time finding the Arm&Hammer here in Oregon. Is there a substitute I could use insted?? This Is so awsome and am excited to try it ASAP. Keep the Videos comming. GOD BLESS!!!

When I made mine I only used boiled water from the kettle in the bucket and the shredded bar soap melted fine. I used Sunlight bar soap I found at Walmart. I had to pay $10 for the Washing Soda because it wasn't available locally, I got it off ebay. Doing this 6 months ago I'm still using my 1st 5 gallon bucket, great money saving tip!

can you use this is he washing machine?great vids
18wheeler76 10 months ago
@18wheeler76 Yes I use it in a top loader washing machine. If you use in a front loader washing machine I would you less per load.

Thanks for this video it is one thing to get instruction another to watch it step by step.

where do you get the washing soda from. i live in florida and the stores around here where i live dont have it.
danac352 10 months ago
@danac352 If you can't find it in your hardward or shopping center you can order it at amazon.
BexarPrepper 10 months ago
@danac352
I'm from Florida too and I buy my washing soda at Ace Hardware. If they don't have it in stock, they can order it for you.
HWhit9000 10 months ago
@danac352 I found all three items(fels naptha, borax and soda) at Publix grocery stores for a, shockingly, reasonable price.
MrFlGarden 10 months ago
@danac352 they have it at Publix. I live in Southeast Florida and it is the only place I have found it, in the aisle with the laundry detergent, they sell Fels naptha also.

I got the stuff I have the other soap felds nafta IDK the spelling but I have all the stuff and my procrastination is getting the better of me I need to just brew a batch because that is really cheap makes you want to make a bunch and go sell it to the people doing laundry at the coin op but give them the recepie so they could save tons of $ too.
cdltpx 10 months ago
@cdltpx It only takes 10 minutes to make just do it :)
BexarPrepper 10 months ago
@BexarPrepper Ok you twisted my arm I am going to do it now.

@mamaj1013 laundry isle or hardware store fels nafta or zote soap
BexarPrepper 10 months ago
Neat! I saw this somewhere online as well- but that person did not add water. She just mixed it all together dry and scoops out a few tablespoons when its laundry time. I wonder what the difference is. I haven't tried it yet because I don't know where to buy the bar soap. Thanks!!
laramis 10 months ago
@laramis i actually found it in the laundry isle opposite end of stain fighters just look really good for either zote or fels nafta
BexarPrepper 10 months ago
@BexarPrepper Will look for it tonight- thanks!!

I just bought the ingredients to make this soap. Since it's very humid where I live I was afraid the powders would clump up before I get around to using it all so I measured out enough soda and borax for a batch and sealed each batch in plastic bags. In case anyone is interested, for each 76 oz. box of Borax, you need three 55 oz. boxes of Soda and 18 bars of soap to make it all work out evenly.
imstillworkin 10 months ago
@imstillworkin Thank you for figuring that out! Gotta get 1 more soda and15 bars of soap ;)
