@MaxHeimst they killed her off because Jane was jealous of her. If you noticed lots of women mysteriously dropped off this show. Things that make you go hmm.
I love this series it's so real in a way. I mean everything isn't sugar coded like it is on TV theses days look at the ER or Scrubs they never have people they actualy care about or main caracters die or anything bad about them. This show is so great.

I think it's the other way round: since death was a part of everyday life, people took it that way, with less scruples. It's the modern society that has a complicated attitude to death, is afraid of it, tries to deny it - and a symptom of this approach is for example the cult of (neverending) youth and inventing words for death and dying that are not "harshly" describing the reality (I'm sorry, I can't remember what is this called in English as it is not my mother tongue.)
@Soolidago For your knowledge, I believe the word you're trying to think of a euphemism. When you make up a word to replace one you don't want to say. We do it a lot for things we don't like to discuss, such as using the bathroom, dying and having sex.
even though olive's death is sad, i laughed when she said in her will for loren not to go and dig her up because she wanted to be buried in mexico on the trail.
Grace was a cook on one of her cattle drives into town... that's where she came from... Olive and Dr. Mike were good friends, but both had very different opiunions about things
