The La's shaped British music for years to come from their one album onwards. One album was gutting as we all wanted so much more. My 5 year old loves these songs now, the seem timeless. That is true pop genius when the songs just don't age. Where would these boys go if they where starting out now with the likes of Simon the pimp cowell helping the music industry implode.
Not only does Oasis copy Lee, but the La's are one of the most influential bands in rock history. Much of Britpop attitude comes from this band. And their one album, along with Nevermind and OK Computer are hands-down the best rock albums of the 1990's.

Chris Sharrock was the only drummer that had the creativity and brilliance to match Mavers' musical genius. He took them over the top IMO. Watching this is so bitter sweet. The greatness of what was and what could have been... *sigh*
Brilliant song! The La's at their peak and in their best line-up. I just wonder; if they were so unhappy with all the recordings of their album, why not just put out a live performance? Like this one for instance.

Ha, I was there, Eat were supporting and this was shown late night on some show sponsored by McEwans Lager if remember rightly. One of the best gigs I ever attended. Thanks for the memories.
@highwireman yes I was, one of the best gigs I've had the privilege to see. I saw them the same year at the same venue at a CND gig with Sandie Shaw, Bradford and the Trashcan Sinatras (I think). Absolutely stunning live band.
how amazing are the la's mate fuckin gutted i was only a kid when they were on the go. i could listen to them all day. scousers know how to write a tune like must be sutton in the water.
Love this band, love this song, love this performance!! Shame the drummer ended the crescendo on his own, shouldve been more synchronised like the Doors in the End :) But still fookin awesome
this is also my favourite las song...the lyrics are beautifull....also totally agree about the coral...have to be honest though ive never got into the coral as much as i did the la's...but your right.
have you listened to the lost las cd?...its amazing...very rough..and raw..."my girl sits like a raindeer...with her legs to one side"....lol...take care m8
ha! Great memories, one of my favourtie all time gigs. The mighty Eat (first incarnation) supported and this was shown on (I think) ITV and was sponsored by some awful lager, possibly McEwans?
One of THE greatest songs of all time, Mavers is a genius, truly an inspiration. To have a chat with him would be the moment of my life, so many questions, forever no answers. What a band, lyrically, musically. Such a waste, the world needs you La's, more so now than ever.
wow what a treat to see this live on youtube, great song, from a great album shame that they didnt do much more than one album, they was a superb band. thanks for sharing this.
thanks so much for posting one of the greatest songs ever. this song fucked my head up for months when i was tripping on acid. i woud have done it again but it took me months to put the jigsaw of my mind back together. i love this with all my soul.

It's mainly because of drugs that massive talent is wasted, and yet it's also because of it that this magic was created in he first place.

@DasBlood I wonder if drugs played a part?

@DasBlood I prefer Lee's brother, Neil Mavers on drums to Sharrock, the performances Neil put in are second to none in my eyes.
