  • So, he's a vampire running from the sun?

  • Adidas ist krieg!

  • WTF!

  • his running pace adds another element to the tempo.

  • this is a catchy pop song, let's just leave it at that. why do people debate.

  • @hukitdeep Wouldn't call this a polyrhtym... it is really a metric modulation (yeah, look that one up), and a pretty simple one at that. Also, a 3/3 time signature makes no sense in this context (and pretty much in general). This is definitely in some form of */4 or */8 with a switch between duple and triple groupings of eighth notes. But do you think that Zach Hill actually wrote anyting out? Probs not.

  • @lyigantius its very clearly in 6/4

  • this is obviously 9/1.

  • @DrGlassonglass no asshole its simply 4/4. god damnnnnnnn

  • Sacramento?

who gives a fuck, this shit is good.

  • If polyrhythms do not exist, why am I hearing one?

  • @hukitdeep I have that textbook and it says polyrhythm isn't real.

  • Percussionists: digress. there is a such thing as polyrhythm. look it up. found it in a textbook. those often don't lie. 3/4 and 3/3 time signatures at the same time? DOGS AND CATS LIVING TOGETHER OH NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW

  • Jeus Loves you!

  • that was fun, it actually makes me smile every time, it's so chilled and happy xD

  • this song makes me shiver everytime love it!

  • its mostly in 3/4 & 6/8. juz say n yal

  • amazing. Fact.

  • Time Signature = (x² + y² - 1)³ / Pi.

  • @ducksoup4pa umm, maybe but its mostly in 4/4 Im pretty sure

  • its like the crow.... but with out all that metaphorical bullshit, and its good

  • hipster crap fucking hipsters

  • @djduderin is it even possible to like any music without someone thinking it was created for a pretentious audience? shut the fuck up. if you still care about calling out hipsters, then you're no better than them.

  • @djduderin you mad

  • @djduderin Do you even know what a hipster is or do you just feel left out? Come on now.

  • Zach Hill is from another fucking planet.

  • SO FUCKING RAD

  • This is pretty obviously 6/8 and 3/4

  • If you listen to this without the video, It's pretty good. Sorry, but it sounds like Deerhoof or something similar to me. Genuinely enjoyed this.

  • All this time sig stuff needs to end, the real question is how much more black can this video be?....and the answer is none more black

  • @HexenDruken Awesome Spinal Tap reference. Props.

  • Ego come ego go..

  • Run Forest run.

  • wouldnt it be better if at the end of the video the black metal dude reached a destination? for example his moms house for milk and cookies or somethn :P

  • There's a guy that goes to my school that walks around dressed like this, but he's like 6'8" and carries a human skull and an old fashioned doctors bag. He's so cray-cray.

  • I love the band geeks who float from song to song pointing out the time signature

  • im pretty sure thats Kane, the wrestler

  • god I love downtown sacramento!!! thumbs up if you know what I mean.

  • this song's in 6/8 and 3/4. hardly groundbreaking time signatures, guys.

    regardless, this song's fantastic.

  • @ofarevolution441 12/8? :P

  • @ofarevolution441 I quite agree, although what I usually like most about him is how he manipulates within such standard time signatures. Taking something common and making it uncommon - creativity at its best.

  • zach hill is so amazing that if i saw him in person i would be forced to kill myself with my own hand that turns into a gun.

  • @zbox98 I agree Wholeheartedly

  • He just..doesn't pay attention to time signatures. Zach is awesome and everything but, Spencer wrote everything for Hella and then Zach filled the space with drumming. If you listen to the guitar parts in Hella and think about the tempo/level of intensity that is intended for each track, it seems pretty obvious how the drums are supposed to be. If Spencer plays DUN DUN DUN, then zach adds DUN*******DUN*******DUN******* the asterisks being asmanynotesaspossible most of the time

  • Yea thats me running in that video

  • who is running in the video? Zach???

imagine living there and see it running jajajaja

  • Shazam couldn't identify it - I highly approve now.

  • Just got into him..................kewl shit

  • Zachh! Byaahhhhhhhh!

  • yes

  • He's running though an area of Sacramento known as the Fabulous Forties, or Fab Forties. It's a really old/wealthy neighborhood where former California governor Ronald Reagan lived, in a pink adobe house. Let's buy Zach that pink adobe house!

  • How was this not a hit. Radio stations are suck. This song is so freaking awsome.

  • Soooooooo good.

  • His legs are soooo sexy...

  • fucking trve as fuck

  • does zach usually run? ahahaha :)

  • awesome! simply awesome.

  • grim and frostbitten xDDD

  • sick song.

  • and yeah, this is fucking tr00

  • i think when it comes down to making a music video, this is awesome. fuckin' love all the color flares..

  • Is that supposed to be the guy from Gorgoroth?

  • i believe it's just a parody of black metal videos in general....

    corpsepaint, blood, capes, pointless running...

  • exactly. they r making fun of metal. thats zach hills sense of humor and i think its funny. also like the name coma pony. one of omars greatest songs ever made.

  • @ComaP0ny yes agreed. i love zach's creativity

  • just random BLACK METAL IS MY LYF kid

  • nah man. its the dude from mercyful fate.

i didnt know he was this cool =)

    good thing i saw him

  • everything relates to 4/4

  • shallow

  • fight or flight

  • hahahahaha.

this video is sooo black metal xDDD

and the music is not. that's why i find it funny

  • i just like they zach hill runing look like the most epic thing ever.

  • ...wow, i hate rabid fans so much

  • tripinnnnnnnnnn ballssssssssssssss

  • That's my friend Marty's house at the beginning.

  • whats a time sigature and i love this song thank god fr zack hill!

  • /wrists

  • 6:8

  • It's 4/4. Check it.

  • How on earth can you subdivide 4 in this? This is obviously 6/8. The most 6/8 you can get, jesus.

  • No, you're wrong again. You need to count it slowly. Seriously.

  • you are completely wrong. This whole song is about 3/4 and 6/8. Because you cannot differentiate between 4/4 and 6/8 or 3/4, I have to assume you are either a troll or have the worst rhythm ever. OR! Maybe you are thinking it is 4/4 because 6/8 is a compound triple meter, meaning that it has six eight notes, but two accents, creating a feeling of duple. So from that perspective, you could argue it is 4/4 in triplets, but it would be more logical still to just be in 6/8.

  • I'm no troll. I'm a big fan of Zach Hill, unlike you who probably stumbled upon this from Wavves' blog. Hipster. Nonetheless, I'll stop trying to force 4/4 on you and just keep my opinions to myself.

  • lulz, I am a big fan of Hella, which is how I came to find Zach Hill. My brother came upon the video of "Try Dis..." and got me hooked. Anyway, the only reason I thought you would possibly be trolling was because you are so insistent on that it is 4/4. My apologies, but if you read the latter half of what I wrote, I said I could sort of see the perspective. If you are listening for snare hits and assume them to be on 2 and 4 then 4/4 with a triplet feel would be the conclusion (which is 6/8!)

  • WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT HIPSTERS

THEIR THE DRIVING FORCE OF HUMANITY

ID RATHER SEE THEM THAN SCENE KIDS

YOU GOT A PROB WITH BEATNIKS HEY!?

    GOT A PROBLEM?

    bitch. lol

  • this is way too awesome

  • this is weirde as hell.

  • WHO CARES!!!Listen To The Fuckin Song Thats What Zack Hill Wanted You To Do!!!Feel His Music,Not Find Out About His Signature BullShit!

  • Is this our sensible alternative to allcaps, just capitalize every word?

  • Isn't it obvious? He simply calculates the number of syllables in the lyrics and puts that over the number of words in the line. Elementary my dear Watson.

  • word on the street zach hill doesnt have whole number time signatures... dudes playing in pi/3 and shit....

  • hahahahaha

  • lol you're right

the great thing about it is the fact that time signatures are obsolete in Zach Hill's music

This is definitely the most straightforward of his tracks though

  • wat

  • @anAncientegyptian it swaps between 6/8 and 3/4 which is somewhat common. search: the dance of eternity for some intense time signature change.

  • @anAncientegyptian no he just doesn't pay attention to time signatures.

  • @anAncientegyptian well in at least this song the time signature is as common as it gets

  • @anAncientegyptian what street?

  • @anAncientegyptian 'the fuck are you talking about? Count to the song, count to any of his songs, and you'll find good ol' 4/4 change to 3/4 then he'll throw in some 5/7... I mean, how would playing in 22/7/3 be possible?

  • @anAncientegyptian

    BEST REPLY EVER

  • @anAncientegyptian Pretty sure this song is 12/8

But I like this comment anyway :)

  • @anAncientegyptian

I know a lot of dudes that play drums like Zach Hill, but cannot hold down a simple 4/4 beat because they are so used to soloing all the damn time. I know a couple bassists with the same issue, who can slap a bunch of garbled notes out rapidly but cannot play the low end to "Blue Moon". This beat is 4/4 though, so I guess the word on the street is wrong.

  • @anAncientegyptian anyway, this song is in 3/4

  • @juangodfrid i wouldn't bother, i don't think most zach hill fans know how to read music

  • @StarkMevens hmm, whatever, the song is crazy as hell, and most of hill's songs are in 4/20, 7/15, 6/16, and that king of crazy things.. but this song is in 3

  • @juangodfrid 6/16 is the only real time signature out of those 3 and it's redundant because you could just count it as 3/8. and no zach hill's songs are all x/4 or x/8, mostly 4/4 or 6/8 though

  • @StarkMevens Learn about odd tuplet groups and fractional measures. You will realize how wrong you are about the "valid time signature" status of 4/20 and 7/15.

A few tunes featuring Hill are just in one even time signature, like Team Sleep shit. But his work with El Grupo Nuevo? Marnie Stern? Zach Hill and The Holy Smokes? There's a point in Hella's "The Ungrateful Dead" around 3:00 and again at about 4:00 that involves conflicting tempi.

Go learn more about what you're talking about.

  • @LurkingMonkey those arent real time signatures

  • @StarkMevens you aren't a real time signature.... Plus, signatures are suppose to be unique that's why I developed the decimal points and 0 is a very big factor while being good at timing during drum playing... (you should follow 0/0) and think about creativity. C H E W I T

  • @MisterCoreyMe you suck at drums and you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about

  • @StarkMevens @platinumdynamite

Check out the Wikipedia page on time signatures. #8 on the table of contents? Irrational meters. Read it. Read it twice just so you can be sure it's settled into your thick fucking heads nice and tight. I don't know why you fucks assume that Western Standard notation is so inflexible.

  • @LurkingMonkey shut the fuck up faggot don't try and talk about music when you clearly have no experience or training.

  • @StarkMevens Faggot? How did you know!?

Alright, you win. C'mere and let me suck that sweet little pencil-dick, hun!

  • @LurkingMonkey I mean, using irrational meter is just pointless. It makes life harder for everyone involved.

  • @platinumdynamite Syncopation is pointless, too. Any composition wherein a note lands on an off-beat is just pointless.

If you're playing gravissimo, like bpm at 20-30, then a quarter-note icosuplet group should be no problem.

  • That said, I really like this song. Zach Hill seems to be orienting his new output around building a groove moreso than playing a lotta notes real fast.

  • @LurkingMonkey I really think you don't understand exactly what you're talking about. Hitting 20 equal notes in a bar is physically impossible unless you do it with some sort of software and hardware.

  • @platinumdynamite 20th notes are very possible (depending on the tempo), just as 24th notes are possible. Note lengths and time signatures don't have to be based on powers of 2, that's just what people are accustomed to using.

  • @StarkMevens they are real technically

  • @StarkMevens They are. The 4 denotes the length of one beat (a quarter), the 6 represents the number of said notes in a bar (6). 12/8 would be 12 8th notes in a bar, 2/2 is 2 half notes in a bar. Basic music theory

  • @LurkingMonkey Maybe you need to learn basic time signature concepts. It goes in powers of 2, for note values. How the fuck can you have a x/20 time signature, that's not possible without having perfect 20th notes, which makes no sense.

  • this song's in twelfty/seven

  • it's 6/8.....

  • the bridgeish part with "fight or flight" is in 3/4, but the rest is 6/8

  • if by weird you mean too intense for subhumans to comprehend... then yes it is weird

  • Yoeah, listening to Zach Hill's music makes you an ÜBERHUMAN ! Can i lick your feet ?

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, it's just 4/4, that Snare hits on the 2 and 4 every measure.

    Bitchin' song though.

  • this song is in 3/4

  • I think it is 3/4

  • zack hill is a legend nice guy too

  • Everything's in 4 if you count slow enough.

  • what if it's a 3?

    or a 5?

    or a 7?

    or an 11?

  • Zach Hill should be on the next Modern Drummer festival

  • Fuck man! Music isn't all about time signature for heaven's sakes! It's about listening to music!

  • your damn right!

    but this is great

  • who the fuck cares?!

    Just listen and FEEL IT.

  • To all the people who think they know something about time signatures: Theoretically, 5/9 exists. but you would never say something is in 5/9 because you could just say 5/4 instead and it would be much, much easier. As for this song, in my opinion most of it is in 12/8 and then the chorus switches to 3/4 while keeping the 8th notes the same tempo. If you think Zach Hill is beyond time signatures, he's not. Music theory underlies everything he plays even if you aren't aware of it.

  • there's a chorus?

  • yeah, this is near enough one of the most straightforward song zach's written

  • i would definitely not be able to keep running for that long.

  • This has quickly become one of my favorite songs. I need to get the album now!

  • ok? LOL your retarded

  • Hes retarded and you wear pink underwear.
