I had a Woburn Officer wave me through a red light without stopping traffic coming the other way. When I asked him why he did it he said he meant for me to stop at the line. I'm not sure why I need to be waved to the line... Point is police aren't super beings any well train civilian can do it. Honestly I see a lot of these guys texting and talking on the phone or chatting with the workers... Not really a $50/hr performance.
I agree most of the Woburn PD are pro's but the main issue most people have with this is the money, while its true not all of these details are on overtime, most details are and most of these guys are in the 80-100,000$ a year club which puts the rate for them playing flagman (which any well trained civilian can do) well above par, just another example of wastfull state policy`
A tree fell down across the road. The police are the first on the scene because 1 - they patrol, and 2 - people call the police when they see dangerous conditions like that.
The officer is probably on shift, NOT on overtime, and I really can't imagine why this video is even here. Directing traffic is routine, every day police duty. Hardly controversial.
it's to show that the police are important. but would a civilian contractor and flagmen do just the same in controlling the traffic. and maybe the DPW crew could be working on something like paving the roads etc! also the issue is: what do you do about those details that the officer is on o/t?
yep! but sometimes with congested areas, like in beantown!and the massholes. those flashing lites do make a difference. but in a slow economy I think things might change.

It's a hot issue sparking many debates among proponents and oponents.

a big issue for sure.

it looks like an semi-emergency incident.. the police wouldn't be there on a routine worksite.

sounds like a case by case issue.
I bet the police would hate to loose the o/t.
