Perfectly put. One of the best ways to explain why you like a Regina song is to say that you can't find the words to explain why you like a Regina song. I was watching Fidelity & then Machine just now. On both, people were saying how they didn't like the songs at first and now they love or are obsessed with the songs. I hear that so much about her. From hate to obsessed. I don't think I've ever seen a musician do that to people before. She's quite the conundrum. :) & I love every second of it.

I think the reason people "hate" her stuff is because they've never listened to anything quite like it before, and no matter how much we like to deny it, the unfamiliar catches us by surprise.

But that's part of her charm! She's so surprising. Her music is unique and definitely not redundant. I love Regina Spektor. Sh is an amazing artist who takes aspects from everything in life and makes it her own.

@FamiliaCara Yep. It's just like you say. So many say stuff like 'I used to not like her, or not like this song or that song of hers, but now I love her or this whatever song'. I know it's kind of a normal thing for certain music or certain songs to grow on you. But I've never seen it go from sometimes hate to sometimes obsession with people as much as with Regina. She is, as you say, THAT much of a surprise. Isn't it great to watch it all happen? :)

I agree, especially about delightfully vague, but I think what seems vague to us is actually her unique perception of things, the message being not to understand her songs literally, or minutely follow the plot in the lyrics, but to perceive the quality of that perception and see what feelings we can associate with her music. That is not only a pleasant experience but also an enriching one.
