Pavel Steidl is one of the best classical guitarist in the world still alive.
I had the chance to see him performing during a concert in France.
He is awesome! One of the artists where you don't look the price on your ticket when you go to see him! Very nice guy, you can talk to him at the end of the show.
@cihad2003 Conservative Traditionalists. Haters will hate. At least his place is not with those cold and timid souls who have never known victory nor defeat. (that's a quote right?)
he is so much fun to watch live! i saw him in india and throughout the whole preformance he was goofing around with his silly faces and making everyone laugh, it was great. and he is of coarse amazing to listen to!
Except of course when he wants to tense it up. He has many different strokes, some coming from the shoulder which is maybe what you see as being tense.
Rarerly is there a LIVE version of a song on TABs. But if there is one for this, you surely go crazy if you try to learn it. That's why I don't learn Paco de Lucia songs either.
I had the luck learning the guitar with Pavel as one of my teachers (80's and 90's). Pavel is not only a great guitarist, but also one of the nicest persons I have met. It is wonderful to see he gets the recognition he deserves.
chrissy: i just got back from caird hall concert and it owned, pwned says sister. 9 freaking encores and i shook his freaking hand. i touched greatness. and my mum got a hug
Amazing technical skill, and he shows emotion and looks like he actually enjoys playing, compared to the 99% of other classical guitarists ive seen that just look like robots...
Great talent! I'd never heard of him till a radiostation (Netherlands, ~ 3 yrs ago) announced his concert of that evening in the Concertgebouw, AMS, then played a CDtrack. I was stunned! Even thru my poor office radio, I could sense the musical geniality. Partly wondering how - being a cello and string quartet geek - I'd appreciate a guitar solo concert, I phoned for a ticket. Concert was gorgeous - indeed 3 geniuses in one! He didnot loose the audience even for a second. Rare, very rare.
Potentially the greatest guitarist of the century. The dynamics, sensitivity, and emotional expression can not be appreciated on less than the best recordings and Hi Fi systems. Unfortunately some of his recordings seem to be out of print. Steidl should give us his interpretation of Tarrega and Barrios to bring his name to the light.
You don't get it do you? It's not meant to be great music. This is musical humour. You know, FUNNY. By the way, I have seen Pavel several times in concert and he is one of the most profoundly musical players I have ever seen. His 19th century performance practice is considered second to none. He can turn the most inanely boring piece of 19th cent crap into something special. Is acrobacy a word?
Maybe you will consider my compositions to be music, as far as they are simple? Thus, I enjoyed more than what I can express this composition made by Pavel. And I didn't consider it to be acrobatic, but fully musical.
You were more than surely tired when you listened.
A friend of mine, Simon Rovis-Hermann, recently made a guitar for him and he used it in Australia last year but it is not the one in this video. He even briefly owned a Smallman (I have heard) but quickly got rid of it as one should.
Betto, I was so lucky to be one of his students some years ago in The Netherlands where he was a guitar teacher. I have been playing the guitar for over 40 years autodidactic, but what Pavel showed me really made me start from scratch again. On my 47th birthday he played the Chaconne on my guitar for me personally. Indeed Pavel's interpretation is the best I have ever heard. I think Pavel is a living legend and genius, probably the kind like Barrios Mongore.
Hello guitar 1050, Pavel showed me "planting" ; the technique to plant you right hand fingers on the strings before striking the string. When this is practised slowly and speeded-up later you can play faster and without side noice.
Thank you for the comments. This is all that I got from Pavel for the moment. Hopefully in a few months I might be able to get more videos of him, or perhaps with some luck there is someone else that can post more videos of the great Pavel. I met him in concert and masterclass, both were unforgettable experiences. An authentic musician. His performance of the Bach Chaconne BWV1004 is for me the most beautiful interpretation I ever heard on the guitar.
I have to say I love Pavel's playing, he is my favourite player, but I did not like his Chaconne (too romantic I thought without much attention to correct Baroque performance practice). His Losy suite is beautiful. He played it during a break at a class he was giving that I attended in Perth, Australia. Just so great to see a performer of his level just sitting down and playing because he loves playing and sharing.
