DId you know you can perform this glitch on a normal game? It isn't done the same way, but there is a same effect. If you listen to certain pokemon cries in the pokedex, and then use the coin case, this will happen. Sometimes odd text will appear, and some times the game will white out.
Can you upload a video of this on Silver and Crystal? I'm not sure what it would do in Crystal, but I've been looking everywhere for a video with the Lugia in color!

You are right. I tried this glitch on silver version, to see if there is a special coloring for Lugia. But after self reset of the game, the screen turned gray blueish instead of the green on your video. And after all Lugia was still a black silhouette. That means gamefreak made the alternate coloring only for Ho-oh on the title screen. I wonder if its beta stuff of gold n silver.

I'm not sure if this is true with these games, but in R/B/Y, areas like that would freeze your game. Why? Well, you THINK something is over in that grass, right (Like in Route 1)?

Get a Coin case talk to a Machop at Vermilion city and use the coin case,it'll say : Replenish the PP of this holds 99 coins or something. then it resets and BANG! you've got it
Same happened to me, I got it after a trade Pokemon Stadium 2 between my never-gameshark'd gold and silver carts and using the GB tower afterward... This same glitch also happened in Tetris DX, somehow... (Save batt?)
this happens commonly because it is an old game most commonly used on the older gameboys but now people use them on the gba which causes a screw up. its not really a harmfull glitch
Did you read the description? It explains what happened. You might not notice the difference unless you are familiar with the usual beginning screen to pokemon gold. Usually animation is in color, and at the end, the picture of Ho-Oh flying is supposed to be a silhouette, and this trick allows you to see it in detail, which proves that it WAS programmed to exist.
Have you heard of layering? You went out of bounds on the OAM map so it went back to the first sequence it could find, the title screen. The layer transparency flags weren't reset, so therefor you get the problems with the title screen being altered.
You restarted the game and tricked it into thinking you where playing it on a Gameboy and not a Gameboy Colour or Gameboy Advanced.

If you move the cartridge on a gameboy it also does a similar effect. Although the colors are always different.

Wow, that once happened with my silver.
All i did was walk around blain's gym in kanto and the game would have inverted colors.
