I know! I went to Tremblant Quebec this spring as a BEGINNER! I walked half way down shaking almost vomiting holding my skis over my shoulder...terrified because I could not do more than snow plow...My hubby was patient but I could of died of a heart attack...Thanks to your videos I am comfortable almost anywhere because I can think of these videos and turn with convidence...and I avoid overpacked hills!
@hyperfocus2011 Delighted to hear that the videos changed your skiing experience, confidence is a huge thing and it always helps to understand exactly what you should be trying to be doing thanks very much it really helps to know that people find the films useful.
@hyperfocus2011 It was a quiet time when we made these films it is very hard to improve your skiing when you are simply avoiding 5 million other skiers.
thank you so much! my technique was a disaster before I watched these videos. I tried skiing lessons from year to year, but couldn't put these bits and pieces together. Now, with your advice in mind, I went out skiing today - and it worked! I felt much more control and the words "nice and calm" kept rolling in my mind as a new mantra that helped, too. I'm in the middle of my skiing vacation - and happy to discover your videos now - not a few days later ))
@StrelkaTV It's great to get feedback from people who are finding films and apps so handy when they're hitting the slopes, very pleased. Keep it nice and calm and have a great holiday.
I'm currently living in Korea, so personal lessons weren't an option due to language. I watched these videos before going skiing for the first time ever yesterday. My friend didn't believe me that I had never been skiing before. It was so much fun. I spent my day on intermediate hills and went down part of an advanced slope. Thank you for the wonderful tutorials. I will definitely be skiing again.
I went skiing for the first time on Sunday and by applying your concepts I was parallel skiing by lunch! I used to race road bikes so I'm quite familiar with shifting weight, but still need work on keeping my body "stacked", because in racing I got too used to "kissing the mirrors" where there was constant head/body movement off each side of the bike! Awesome vids, Darren. Thanks!
I've skied for 2 weeks now but i have problem to start my left turn on steeper slopes (black and hard red ones): everytime i turn on my "good side" i stop and stand like an idiot, then i do an aweful snowplough to start the next turn. Any advice?
@Lallalalalalalaaaaaa It sounds like you have a dominant side, something that often helps is : as you turn to the left don't think about standing on the downhill foot (the right ), think about taking the weight off the left. This is achieving the same thing but it sounds like your left leg is more dominant, this may help but it is hard to know without seeing exactly what you are doing. I hope this helps.
@frbarnett We would love to produce the app for android but it is a large investment. We have just released version 1.0 (Lessons only) on Nokia Symbian and will have the Windows WP7 version out shortly. Android is something we do have planned for the future, one step at a time.
