I have the LS3 2SS, and I have a friend with L99. I've driven both. There is a huge difference in the performance of the two, and the LS3 is miles ahead better .There is a 26bhp diff in power and an even more bigger, if not more massive, difference in the torque curve between the LS3 and L99. The guy in the manual car can't handle his car.
@PVTGovernment Not to mention the fact that the L99 automatic is heavier. The LS3 manual not only has 26 more HP, but weighs less. More HP, less weight = faster car.
i dont understand how people who don't like camaro's keep looking at numerous vids on it and post how they dont like it. Thats like a guy who keeps giving blow jobs but saying he don't like fags.
@mcdoogle6969 I know that they are getting better. But, first of all the auto Camaro has the L99 which is ~20Hp down on the manual LS3. Secondly, most auto equipped cars are slower (especially in a roll race) than their manual counterparts, that is unless the auto is a DCT(Dual Clutch Transmission).
@VetteMaro86 Put a stall in the auto and it will be beastly. Most L99's will walk a LS3 from a roll because not everybody is a pro driver. LS3's are faster, just depends on the driver.
@VetteMaro86 The L99's are fine from a roll because of the TAPshift feature allows you to manually shift gears via paddles. Immediate throttle response.
@fballstl28 I have driven many auto equipped cars (L99 included), and i can tell you with all honesty, the L99's auto is good but Far from the best automatics such as the ZF thats in the newer BMW and Jags. Those are excellent. Unless you have a Dual Clutch Transmission (or MAYBE the latest autos) you will definately lose to a manual equipped car driven by a competent driver.
@VetteMaro86 I'm not talking about keeping the stock tune in. Once you tap into the TCM, it is a totally different animal! Shift times can be down to 80 to 100 milliseconds (.08-.1 seconds). Eliminating some of the torque management allows the shifts to be hard. Bumping up line pressure allows for super quick responses from the paddles (manual mode). Just for example, the GTR shifts at 200 milliseconds stock.
Also, upgrade the clutches within the 6L80 auto and you'll increase efficiency.
@Camaros5678 haha not a clutch pedal like a manual, but they do have clutches within the tranny. Check it out by typing 6l80e clutches into google images. ;)
street runs like this don't mean much. Awesome cars and they look great. I rather take mine to the track to be schooled or do the schooling.

Did anyone try downshifting the auto with the tap shifter before hitting it?

jordtizzle 4 months ago
@jordtizzle The (LS3) manual is 426hp stock. The (L99) auto is 400hp stock.

automatics multply torque so even with bigger first two gears and 20 less horsepower its still puting down about 200tq more
jayguy173 1 year ago
The manual should have no problem beating an automatic with no problem at all. Keep working on your shifts man..
VetteMaro86 1 year ago
@VetteMaro86 Actually, the new automatics are pretty damn good.
