My ever favourite song by Pete. Even more than his Genesis times (apart from the ones that Tony Banks himself wrote, of course, Tony Banks is God, we all know. :-))
This song led directly to my support of Amnesty International for many years, all the way up to their recent decision that pro-life policies in any country in the world constitute oppression of women which is apparently the equivalent somehow of their being political prisoners. A sad swerve off-course for a great international lobbying public-opinion-shaping organization. Maybe the political prisoner issue was no longer bringing in enough cash. But anyway, this is an excellent song.
I agree that "pro-life" policies constitute the oppression of women. I don't see how rape victims should be forced to have the child, along with women with health issues. I think the whole thing is rather silly actually - a republican government will frown on abortion, but they'd definitely be up for a war!
@nicck I love when pro-choicers use rape as an excuse for abortion when it is such a small portion of all abortions. How about trying to prevent those rapes by surgically castrating the rapists as a punishment. But you're probably not in support of that either.
As far as your point on war, you're right we really need to stay out of other peoples affairs unless ourselves or our allies are attacked, or our interests are in jeopardy.
@kalithma Yeah sure, castrate them...I don't care for rapists. I do care for innocent people who can't handle the burden of a child, or the emotional distress of having to hand that child away. It's a foetus, stop crying over the trivial things because you'll just be disappointed.
in europe the album is simply namned peter gabriel.....was the fourth album in a serie that was all namned peter gabriel...his next album SO got its name as a anti-name, he was forced to give it a name by his record company due to stupid american market that demanded a name........
This album, Security , was released in 1982 -- I bought it and was immediately enamoured with the entire content. I bought the cd when cds were a new item, in 1984, and only a few audiophiles had cd players. Amazing album -- I encourage all to listen to the entire album, sitting in the dark on the couch in comfort.
Peter is probably the most important artist in all of 'modern' music since the Beatles. Not only is his music an incredible blend of would-wide influences, but as a man and humanitarian. Words fall far short of experiencing this man and his music.
Security was Gabriel's greatest work since the Lamb, and reamins his greatest solo work to date... but there's always the next album (or the REAL Genesis reunion? )
Dated is not necessarily bad. I'm just saying, it doesn't pack the technical impact it did when it was released back then, when it sounded completely unique and fresh.
@pegasusgiraffe you have great taste my friend :) my 3 favourites also. But there are many others.... Solisbury Hill, Games without Frontiers, Mother of Violence, San Jacinto, The Rhythm of the Heat, Signal to Noise, Intruder, Father, Son..... to name a few... and the AMAZING 'Another Day' (Roy Harper song) with Kate Bush (never released, but easily accessed via youtube)

One of his best. I always wonder why he didn`t play it on the later tours

IMO because it's a too easy song. too easy emotions for our heavy-brained Peter.

Beautiful song from an absolutely fantastic 80s album. Even though Security sounds dated, it is still a great record.

It doesn't sound dated to me.

You're right. Some of the sounds or drum machine. My music in the mid 80s is guilty of that. Check it out sometime. Search for "The Drumbones".
