What a beautiful version of a beautiful song by a truly mind blowingly gorgeous and talented singer! It's a shame it's only 40 seconds long - hopefully she'll record a full version soon!
I wonder if... there's anybody else that wish to have this song sang by this welsh godess, in its lenght. Not just as a commercial! Now, I also know, that Katherine Jenkins, reads some of the comments posted about her work thru YouTube. If that is true, please gift us with that. Would you? What I like the most about this version, was the slow pace, and also, your enthusiasm.I saw the original singer from this song, but I didn't like it at all. This was the first time that I liked it. Thanks
I've not been interested in opera over the years, however in recent times, I've become very interested, wholly due to listening to Katherine Jenkins. In my opinion she is a wonderfully gifted singer and performer. Reading some of the negative comment below does not change my view of Katherine, but, does make me wonder, as to the persons writing them. Is it not a British disease to pull apart, split hairs, nit-pick and generally critisize anyone whom achieve a degree of success? I think so.
I have seen her so O sole mio same song different language and tempo. JS Bach loved to be copied as it gave him prominence. And AncientGP, Some people have the ability to sing most songs and I think she should not limit herself.
No, you are confusing with Elvis Presley's "It's now or Never". That was "O Sole Mio". "I only want to be with you" was Dusty Springfield from the mid 60's.

she is celtic , most celts are good looking and can sing ,full of history and culture, the original britons. i visited wales last year, friendly people too, different mentality to the english
That's interesting. Yeah, I noticed she has a friendly persona about her and I like it. If she turns to the Lord God then she can marry me any day. Right now she'd be in my top 5 woman from around the world that I'd love to marry.
the 3 welsh women i can think of are katherine jenkins charlote church and katherine zeter jones there all as good as they seem but the rest are weirdo's (although i did go to north wales)
Hey thanks for that info. Interesting. Hey, I'm around weirdo's all day where I live so I'd be no stranger to it. But yeah, she's def. one of the best looking woman in the world for sure. Truly beautiful.
Short and sweet :) Maybe she will somewhat abandon her light classical and opera leanings (more than she has already) in the future for a more upbeat pop sound, this short video certainly shows she has the vocal chops for it and I would be inclined to buy a full version of this effort; of course, I already own most of her recordings so I am a little biased ;)
Sorry guys ... I'm not sure, but I think (unfortunately) Katherine never recorded the full version of this song. This take was done for a television advert for the Rugby. I wish it was available as a full version.
Holy Shi!t! lol. I have the full version of this song. It's a slower version and just as beautiful. I've had for a while. Try Limewire. I think Vonda Sheppard also did a version for an Ally McBeal.
mezzo-soprano according to my uncle who is heavily into the opera scene.
Hi would somebody be able to tell me if it's possible to download the full and where i might get it from? so looking forward to seeing her perform next week, Katherine you have the most amazing voice.
Very funny argument. The child from USA and the teen from UK. Dissent apart, no doubt this Welsh singer is a stunning beauty, sings pretty well and knows Italian, French, Russian and German, or at least studied them! Another wonder from Wales is Bonnie Tyler... Besides, French is said to be a nasal tongue, and is perhaps the most beautiful tongue in the world. I've heard people saying the English from the USA is too nasal... Please don't take the wrong meaning of the word.
wow! she sounds so different here!!!! I wish i was welsh so that i can sing melodic like her! haha... but wow! she can sing nearly anything! Truely my idol! xxxx
I'm sorry, but Katherine is not a soprano... She says she's a mezzo, altought some still doubt it, he he. Her voice is so different here, thanks for posting this.
I know that...and she is not a mezzo soprano, her middle voice is exactly like that of a lyrical soprano, and her low notes are rather bad, her high notes are rather bad too. She is a lyrical soprano without high notes basically.
I think Katherine's position at the top of the Classical charts is assured . . . classical music is what she trained for, what moves her, and which remains her first love
I don't think helenmrice's comment deserved the thumbs down, we all have differing tastes and you have to admit, this is a great version showing she can do pop as well as her normal wonderful stuff.
I like Katherine Jenkins singing this way far better than when she's sticking her freakin tongue down her throat to make her sound like a mezzo. She needs to stop raising her soft palate-it gives her such a fake mezzo-soprano sound
I've been hunting for a while. I'm pretty sure that I have found it. It seems to me that the original is being used for music background in a Doctor Who video. I'm not absolutely sure but that's it, but I'd give it a probability of 80%. I was wrong - it is better than the Katherine Jenkins version, but it's probably in octaves that she can't reach.
Anyway if you're interested it's on the top of My Favorites
She's like Charolette Church trying to get into mainstream music...I suppose that's where the money is! You can tell her voice is too good to sing pop songs...and it does not sound right. she might be better off getting together with ES Posthumus
I think the problem is that she is singing everything in semi-operatic style and needs to shake off the way her training is making her do this. I think this is why some react so negatively towards her. Bryn Terfef is only operatically trained singer I can think of who can seem to adapt with ease to popular material.
I really don't think her voice can go down to the proper range for this old American rock song (my high school days - my country in this case :-). I grew up with the original and this version beats it hands down. However, it is not a great song for her to be attempting. It's also less operatic than many of her other crossover attempts. She's getting better at it.
It is less operatic than many of songs, that is true.
The original is Dusty Springfield:
MczZzJ-jy5c
QSL2V__lX-g
At the top of my favourites too, now, if it is easier to get at them that way. I think the Dr Who version is her too, but in the links I give you see here performing it.
It could be right too, I have no certain memory that Springfield was the first to sing it or that she wrote it. She was the first -- that I recall -- to make a big hit of it, but that is a memory going back a few years too.
I think that Wikipedia is correct and that Dusty Springfield was the first to perform this song. Realizing that I played rhythm or lead guitar, and that I have perfect pitch. I tune spark plugs by ear and then check my results with a gapper. That last step has always verified my ear. This original wasn't the song that I heard. Since she was pre-Beatles, the company that pressed this song must have used an American band's cover. It was far better than Dusty's version.
